As a former member of the SUSC baseball team (that dates me doesn't it), I
am very disappointed in the decision to drop baseball. There are always options
and I have hard time believing that a solution couldn't be found. But
someone has to want to find a solution. What's cheaper to run a baseball
team or a tennis team? They could have competed as an independent or perhaps
even dropped down a division and joined a league.
It's a bummer that the team is gone, but something had to be cut to join
the big sky. Tennis was required and is much cheaper than baseball in every
aspect IE travel, scheduling, scholarships. It really came down to golf and
baseball. Golf found a conference and supports itself. Baseball didnt and cant.
Suu is a D1 institution so dropping to a DII level was completely out of the
question. That's just what I've heard and learned the last couple
years following this team.
Perhaps the basketball program needs to be looked at next. The T-Birds hoops
record is pretty sad.
Perhaps you and the rest of the aggies should be worried about what your teams
do instead of us. You will be worried on Aug.30th. You can be sure of that.
And in case you forgot your basketball team while they did beat us only did so
by 3 points. You aren't as good as you think.
