I could see BYU receiving a similar arrangement to that of Notre Dame in this
round of negotiations. After all, BYU finishes in the top 25 every year
(something ND can't boast), has a fan base almost as big as Notre Dame, has
its own, exclusive ESPN TV contract, has BYUtv. I could keep going but you
catch the drift.Once it happens, BYU will secure its foothold among
the upper crust of college football while our lil' band o' transfers
struggles to be anything more than the doormats of the pac 10.2.
Broom Hockey:Do you seriously believe that BYU has the fan base of Notre
Dame? Comments like these do so much to show how truly out of touch so many in
Provo really are. Not to mention your subsequent assertions.Personally, I am finding it extremely hard to believe that Tom Holmoe was not
invited to these meetings. Did he at least receive a courtesy call?
RE: Broom Hockey Champ"has a fan base almost as big as Notre
Dame." Why are you inviting trolls to comment. While I hope BYU
one day gains the National respect that ND commands we are far from there at the
present. Fortunately, as you point out, we are consistent top 25 finishers and
the future looks bright. I hope that changes are actually made in the BCS, but
I'm not going to hold my breath.
Golly! Why did they invite Notre Dame but not BYU? There must be some mistake.
We are the BYU of the west. Maybe Tom Holmoe is there but they didn't
mention BYU because it was assumed that everyone knows we are the Notre Dame of
the west? We are a top tier athletic institution just like Florida, USC and
Notre Dame. I know it's true because Tom Homoe said so. We
will be part of the new BCS! We will have access. We will win another NC, this
time against a real opponent who deserves to be there!
It could shake out 100 different ways, but all scenarious have one constant:No one wants byu.You are not a BCS quality program. You do not have BCS quality athletes.Yo do not have BCS quality
"Do you seriously believe that BYU has the fan base of Notre Dame?"If you read my comment I did not say that BYU had the fan base that
Notre Dame does. I said it almost has the fan base that Notre Dame does. BYU
has a national fan base like Notre Dame. It does not have a regional fan base
like the pac 10.2.I believe that BYU has a brighter future than utah
in all respects (fan base, TV contract, athletes, coaches, facilities, etc.).
Ver few, if any, who step back and look at things objectively can make a
Utah fans know....just ask them. And if you want to talk about the quality of
coaches.......yours come from BYU. He learned it in Provo....that's gotta
Overhaul won't have any impact on BYU football since no matter what they
decide, it is still about wins against BCS opponents. BYU doesn't do
enough of that.
@Chris BYour comments have the maturity and intellectual capacity of
a 10 year old.The only thing missing is nanner nanner nanner.C'mon now, raise your game.ESPN want's BYU and pays them
millions...Tune in again ths Fall for all their games but one, on ESPN.We'll look for your utes on kjzz or root.
Broom Hockey, Talk about sports you know about!! Like Broom Hockey. Let
the adults talk about major college athletics! Please take IndianaCoug's
advise. It's ok to be the WAC champion every year until you go intramural
Yes your right Bluto 6 million a year vs the Utes 32 million a year....Seams
like that's break even!!
@ Pugman"Utah fans know....just ask them. And if you want to
talk about the quality of coaches.......yours come from BYU. He learned it in
Provo....that's gotta hurt".LOL! Ok.........Where did BYU
get their coaches from?LaVell Edwards - Utah StateNorm Chow -
UtahBronco Mendenhall - Oregon StateThat's gotta hurt!
@DuckhuntedChris Hill stated on the Grodon Monson show that utah
will recieve 15 million dollars per year for tv and won't reach 20 million
until the backend of the contract. It's front loaded.Regardless, the fact remains that Utah is not being seen on "National
TV" and BYU is.Recruits notice these things.BYU is making
15-20 million on TV, all sports, now. It's a different model. BYU has
the capacity to market itself with it's own Brand. Utah must
ride the Coat-Tails of others. That's ok. BYU does it their
way, and Utah follows and does whatever the Elites of their Conference tells
them to do.Remember also, utah still has 3 more years before they
reach full TV shares, while Colorado came in with full shares right off the
top.That's gotta hurt!
54 IQ"Overhaul won't have any impact on BYU football since
no matter what they decide, it is still about wins against BCS
opponents."Unfortunately for U, it's not just about wins,
it's also about losses to BCS opponents like #107 Colorado, which is why a
4-5 PAC 12 team like Utah doesn't get a single vote in the Top 25, while an
independent like BYU, that almost never loses to bad teams, is a perennial Top
If BYU doesn't receive an invitation to the Big 12, or the LDS Church
leadership turns down such a bid, I see BYU dropping its football program VERY
soon. They simply won't get the schedule they had hoped for as an
independent, and they only have roughly one third of the fan base of Notre Dame.
Bottom line is ESPN will back out of the deal or just will make it clear it
won't be renewed.
@ BlutoDon't forget Utah will make an extra 8-10 million for
the Pac-12 networks which launches in August. The 20 million is for the Fox and
ESPN deals. The Utes will be playing on national TV every game!
#1 SLC Sports FanWishful thinking on the part of a BYU-hating troll.
Even with a WAC heavy schedule, which ends this year, Independent BYU still drew
over 150 THOUSAND more fans to LES than PAC 12 Utah drew to RES, or an average
of 15 THOUSAND more fans per game. And that doesn't even consider the
vastly superior national television audience for every BYU game.Bottom line is ESPN is VERY PLEASED with their partnership with BYU; it's
only our jealous little brothers who are displeased.
PAC 12 whipping boy U"The Utes will be playing on national TV
every game!"If by "national TV", you mean almost every
Utah game will be televised on a subscription-only PAC 12 Regional Network, you
are correct. With all that money, the Utes should be expanding RES
any day now, if Dr. Hill wasn't worried about wasting $ millions on an
expanded stadium filled with fans disguised as empty red chairs - sound
@ Bluto"BYU does it their way, and Utah follows and does
whatever the Elites of their Conference tells them to do".If
Independence is soooo great! If only certain schools with a so called "large
national fanbase" like BYU can go independent. Then why doesn't the
likes of USC, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, ect. Go
independent? They all have huge national fan bases and are perfectly capable of
going independent and negotiate their own TV contracts. Why don't they go
independent?.....Because those schools know the benefits of conference
affiliation with a set schedule in a BCS conference and have access to play for
a national championship. Look at Notre Dame! They've been irrelevant since
the BCS was formed! If they're struggling, BYU has no chance at making it
as an independent even if they do perform better than Notre Dame. That's
sad, but true!
@ antiBCS "If by "national TV", you mean almost every
Utah game will be televised on a subscription-only PAC 12 Regional Network, you
are correct".You are misinformed! Apparently you didn't
hear the announcement from commissioner Larry Scott when he announced the Pac-12
networks. He said "Every football and men's basketball game will be
televised nationally on ESPN, Fox, or the Pac-12 national network". The
regional networks are focused more on woman's sports and other Olympic
sports. Your comment is a desperate attempt at down playing Utah's success
and our new conference. Go enjoy your late night IndyWACing schedule!
Just like ABC/ESPN did last year, the big networks will completely ignore Utah;
the Utes will be shuffled off to the subscription-only conference network where
only diehard PAC 12 fans will be watching.
Nobody is trying to say Utah has everything BYU has. We don't. We
don't have near the fan base. We don't have quite as much national
recognition. We don't have our own TV network. We don't have fans who
travel well all over the country. We don't have a huge conglomerate like
the church backing us with millions upon millions of dollars. But
what we do have is... a very competitive BCS-certified football program,
tremendous recent success, a windfall of new money, tens of thousands of great
and supportive fans, and a power conference that represents us when it's
important (e.g., the current situation with new postseason play).I
think I speak for a great many Ute fans when I say that we are pretty happy with
what WE have got.
"anti BCSAnaheim, CAJust like ABC/ESPN did last year, the big
networks will completely ignore Utah; the Utes will be shuffled off to the
subscription-only conference network where only diehard PAC 12 fans will be
watching."-------And that's 100 percent fine by
me, and many other Utah fans.I couldn't care less how many
people are watching Utah play. Just as long as I get to see it. If we do well,
we will see blanket national coverage when the time comes (like 2008). I, for
one, certainly DON'T want to see Utah on national TV if we lay an egg
versus Florida State (like you did) or TCU or even Notre Dame (like we did).
Would you?Why are so many BYU fans so concerned with the number of
people watching their games?
@News for U:Being a Cougar fan my whole life, I'm fully aware of the
Cougars coaching pipeline and where they've come from. My comment was aimed
at Chris B for the comment he made on BYU not having a BCS quality coach....In
which I reponded that if he thinks the Utes have one...then you'd better
pay attention to where he come from.
I love the BCS, my BCS membership, BCS wins, BCS bowl games, BCS quality
athletes, and BCS quality respect. I heart the BCS
I heart Chris B, the BYU fan masqeurading as a Utah fan.
Christina After losing to Colorado and coming up 4-5 in your
'big boy' conference you have a lot to crow about. Mediocrity is your BFF.Please let us know when you find a
'legacy' in the next 50 years like BYU's.P.S. We will
17-14 Hurts Don't It?Thanks for calling out one of your own.
Chris B is not a Utah fan. She's a BYU fan masquerading as a Utah fan.
What's funny about her posts is not the content as much as how often
gullible BYU fans, like yourself, fall for it.
@duckhunter hunterNow you have possibly dozens of screen names. You
and I both know this. I won't boor everyone listing them but there are many
of them. You are also the single biggest troll on here, bar none. Your assertion
that christina b is a BYU fan masquerading as a utah fan is laughable despite
the fact that if anyone on here knows a fellow faker it should be you.It would make no sense whatsoever for a BYU fan to post in the manner
christina posts. I understand your desperation to try and convince people of
that, christina is the 2nd biggest embarrassment on here after you and having
the two biggest embarrassments is, well, embarrassing, but it just isn't
the way you want to pretend it to be. Sorry, chirstina is a ute
"fan" and so are you.
Duckhunter Hunter,If you ever have enough free time to do so, and if
you ever have a true desire to know whether or not Chris B is a Utah fan, I
would encourage you to look back at BYU comment boards for the past few years
and read Chris B's comments. Having read many of Chris B's comments
myself, I can tell you that Chris B is a Utah fan, not a BYU fan. You can trust
me or go look for yourself.
Duckhunter,"You are also the single biggest troll on here"
I wonder if you appreciate the irony of your comment. I doubt you get it, but
you're calling the kettle black. Also, your comment about a faker knowing
a faker.....How do you know I'm a faker, unless you are also a faker?I do not wish to go back and look through Chris B comments, but
she's not a Ute. She intentionally makes comments that will stir the pot.
She makes the sunday school boy, racist, BCS, Rose Bowl comments and you fall
for it every time.Ignore her and she goes away. Yet, you continue
to feed the beast over and over and over again. Why?
Duckhunter HunterIs there anything that does not resonate with you
in regards to Chris B's recent comments on this story.Yep, I
"I do not wish to go back and look through Chris B comments, but she's
not a Ute. She intentionally makes comments that will stir the pot."Ok, how about you look at Ute articles? Chris B is a Ute! You're
in denial. I started looking at some Ute football articles and here are some

Well there you go folks. Apparently junior got left out of the meeting.
LOL!!!Notre Dame gets the invite as a more relevant independent.
How would BCS overhaul impact BYU?' Well not at all. When you aspire
to play in the Armed Forces or Poinsettia Bowl. You are not a BCS topic of
BYU will always be operating at a slight disadvantage when it comes to football,
simply because the sport requires more great athletes than the school, with its
honor code, can easily attract. For that reason alone, I consider it a foolish
notion for BYU to join a BCS conference--especially the Big 12 or the Big East,
which may not always be AQ leagues. (On the other hand, I don't remember
the Arizona schools' having very many great football teams since joining
the Pac 8/10/12 way back when; I'm not sure what the advantage is, outside
of having a few more dollars, of being a perennial big-conference doormat.)
I'm sure I'm not the first one to say it, but Utah's being
invited to join the Pac 10/12 is reminiscent of Barack Obama's winning the
Nobel Peace Prize in 2009; both came about more as a reward for not being
someone else (Obama for not being George W. Bush, Utah for not being BYU) than
for any other reason.
esodije you are absolutely right.BYU clearly has the advantage. They can
schedule WAC teams anytime they want to fill their schedule.Utah does not
have as many options.
