Andrew, get smart with your money before it stops coming in.
Meyer left behind a Florida program filled with misfits who appeared on the
local police blotter so often that Florida fans became numb to the constant
You are right BC. IMO, some (if not all) powerhouse schools allows some of
their popular athletes to live a prima dona lifestyle in football just to get
these players to play football for their programs, and before you know it, it
gets so out of control, not even one of the best coaches in college football can
control it. Whether or not Urban allowed it is another thing. I appreciated
and enjoyed the two years he coached at Utah. He literally put the program on
the map. He wasn't able to recruit 4 or 5 star athletes, but he made use
of what he had and was able to recruit, and look what happened. Coach Whit took
over and ensured the program continued its competitive ways and success. Even
though some Ute fans still hold a grudge and are bitter again Meyer, you gotta
look at it like this...we are fortunate that Chris Hill chose Urban Meyer and
not someone else. For that, 7 years later you can still feel the affects of
what he began and what Coach Whitt continues to do.
If Meyer had spent more time at Utah, they would have had major issues as well.
Still, even after he left Utah had 3(?) ho-hum years before breaking through
again. I attribute that to Whittingham and the rest of the coaches. I believe
they were able to limit any damage and put the program back on its feet pretty
fast. Not sure the same will happen at Florida, but we'll see.Just my opinion, but something always smelled about Meyer. He inherited a
good situation at Utah and did good things with it. But Whittingham probably
deserves more credit for that first BSC bowl than Meyer.
