It is funny how when the Republicans are in control of the White House, they use
the same numbers for unemployment as the current administration...... its only
when they are not in Power that we see all of these other figures and
calculations to denounce the reported unemployment rate. I never heard all of
these factors while Geroge W was in office? Yet its clear the same process was
happening while he was in office? It's pretty clear that Joey Ferguson is a
This is the best bit from dear Joey..."Before the recession,
Utah’s total work force was at 1.25 million in 2008, but fell 5.1 percent
to 1.19 million in 2009. Since then, Utah has recovered to 1.21 million in 2011,
but that doesn’t account for amount of young people who aged into the
labor force during the three-year recovery period."And where
exactly is the accounting for those who have retired, dropped out of the
workforce, for good? We kept hearing about the impending doom from the baby
boomers as they retire, and we don't have enough young people to replace
the retiring population. We'll, here is proof that at least in some part,
that wave has arrived. But we will ignore that little fact, because
it doesn't support the prescribed dialog the DN wants to promote of bad
news regardless of the news. Evidently the Baby Boomer bust is not longer an
Re: non believerAre you suggesting that our national unemployment
rate may be higher than Obama is telling us?
@RiflemanThe numbers being reported are the same numbers that all
administrations have used, but since it's a Democrat in the WH, it must be
a coverup.Any person with half a brain knows the unemployment
numbers don't account for people that have given up looking for work, have
run out of unemployment benefits, or are underemployed.
@riflemanthe calculations system being used by the federal
government now is the same calculation system that has always been used so the
numbers are reflective of where we are compared to where we have been in the
past, apples to apples, its that simple. However, the article writer wants to
compare apples and cantaloupes because it makes for a more compelling argument.
ah, I am not trooper 55. I was signed in under my own account and somehow got
shitched over while browsing through the articles. I am singing out but wanted
you to be aware of the problem.
Why do the liberals express such great angst over Utah's low unemployment
rate? They should be grateful that it isn't as high as
California's.How many women in Utah are stay-at-home mothers by
Is there some kind of financial benefit for government, politicians, and
economist to lie about unemployment? We people are not so easily fooled by the
lies and misinformation that is being reported because we are in the pits of
poverty in Utah. Income rates of Utah are 50% lower than the national average.
That alone explains why Utah is not recovering or growing, except
for the welfare department offering $50k/jobs as dependents of government. Obama
has proven welfare is economic growth of 1.3% but the only problem of that is
welfare depletes the economy by 5.7% in lost working incomes. Working incomes
generate a 7% ratio of growth. Our state leaders think that cottage
industry small home business are good for the economy, but it's a cover-up
job to hide the fact these people can't find a job to support their
family.Another relevant fact often left out of the economy are local
and national inflation rates related to imports that are hurting our families
and economy ability to have expendable incomes and have to work 2+ jobs to
remain self sufficient.
"Why do the liberals express such great angst over Utah's low
unemployment rate? "Who is having "great angst"... I
haven't read or heard anyone say a thing. I think you are looking for
persecution in too many places. Utah is doing well because it is
cheap. It has cheap land. It has a cheap labor force. Zoning is pro-business.
It has a relatively well educated workforce. Why wouldn't it be doing
well. It doesn't have an agricultural or manufacturing legacy. I
don't think anyone is surprised by this. It has nothing to do with being
deeply conservative else states like South Carolina or Mississippe would also
have low employments rates. But these states do have heve dead or dying legacy
workforces that have been left behind, who are largely under educated.Utah is in a great position moving forward, and eventually the wages will rise
to meet demand.
