Let's not be too casual about this. Many people get into debt due to situations that are out of their control. A medical emergency for example. Especially for the unemployed and uninsured.

This was an informative article.. and useful for anyone who through misfortune has found themselves in the peculiar situation of juggling their finances for an extended period of time.

Only in Utah: I thought I would expand on your argument. I have a job, with fairly good insurance, but over the last few months we have had two unexpected surgeries occur, one on each side of the new year. If it wasn't for these unexpected medical bills we would be doing great, but things like this can really wipe you out.

"The act also allows collectors to contact third parties to locate debtors. Once the debtor is located, however, collectors must stop contacting third parties" I have 2 neices who have thousands in debt and used my address and phone number to do it. I have to deal with harrassing phone calls and letters daily. While I give these collectors their actual addresses and phone numbers they keep calling me because my neices won't answer their phones or respone to mail. The debt collectors just call me back.. I have worked hard all my life to not be in this situation--but here I am!
