Eduardo Balderas was a very important figure in the translation history of the
Church. Along with Antoine R. Ivins, as directed by the First Presidency, he
did the first ever translation of the temple endownment into any language from
English. Balderas also assisted Ivins with the first translation of the
Doctrine and Covenants into Spanish, and alone did the First Translation of the
Pearl of Great Price into Spanish. In the old Spanish hymnbook where
translators were identified, Balderas and Rey L. Pratt had performed the vast
majority of the translations of the text.
I still miss Eduardo Balderas translation of the Hymns to Spanish. Somehow,to me the newer translations do not sound as poetics and meaningful as
the old version.
