This is sad for the family of this man but his death should not be the focus of
US policy regarding further actions in the area. In other words, these events
should NOT be considered when retribution is weighed, and NOT be considered when
acquiescence might be the desired result. To quote/misquote Spock, "the
needs of the many are outweighed by the needs of the one." The
journalist(s) involved knew they were entering a dangerous field of play but
chose to continue because they loved their work. Some may have had hope that
their work might change processes between competing factions. They are paying a
high price for personal ideals but they chose. Leaders cannot account for the
individual actions of those outside their influence and must let these choices
play out -- even if it means fatal consequences. To change direction because of
the actions of individuals exercising personal agency is a disastrous step for
any government. Policies of the current administration have been
less than concrete and it makes the enemy think they can get what they want.
Firm conviction is the only response to terrorists -- despite the ensuing
heartache from episodes like this.
There can be no negotiation nor compromise with savages like that. They are
essentially a death cult which place no value on human life or the trappings of
civilization or modernity.Teddy Roosevelt's approach of
"Perdicaris Alive or Raisuli Dead" is the only one worth pursuing, other
than massive retaliation for each atrocity. In reality, the second
journalist hostage will be murdered int he same gruesome manner by the
barbarians. And, Obama will do nothing but mumble some apologetic words or idle
threats, or send a feckless Secretary of State to grovel or bluster. These
people are in a religious war against all of the West, and must be exterminated.
It is truly a case of "them or us." If we cannot protect
Americans abroad, and will not secure our national boarders at home, we have
ceased to exist as a country, let alone a world power.
Good thing we have a decisive and clear-headed leader as President.
I suspect Barack will comply with the terrorists demands.....
@USAlover is correct. The last thing America needs at a time like this is POTUS
like Bush who had neither the intelligence or the foresight to handle the
situation in the Middle East.
To "FT" I hate to tell you, but USAlover is being sarcastic. What was
really meant is that our current President is indecisive and is NOT clear
headed. If you hate Bush so much, why do you like Obama? Their
policies are nearly identical, except for magnitude. You didn't like Bush
going into Iraq, yet have no problems with Obama inciting instability throughout
the middle east.
"For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth
a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall
be as if he had killed all mankind."That loophole about
"corruption" is pretty darn broad. It effectively allows Muslims to kill
anyone who gets in the way of establishing the rule of Islam.I am
glad most American Muslims are not fully faithful to the dictates of their
Some questions:* Has ISIS committed an act of war?* Does the
death of Michael Brown have more media coverage, and political concern then our
American reporter?* After a two minute speech, could Obama have done
something more worth while then hit the golf course with Alonzo Mourning?*
Could ISIS members have crossed our southern borders, to start executing our
citizens?* Would our commander be more concerned if a member of his family
was to be executed by an ISIS member?* Are our leaders protecting its
Sad, but true.Beheadings have been going on for years along our
southern border, and all we've done is send more weapons to drug cartels,
and sue Arizona for enforcing the laws. The media, and political
leaders haven't shown much interest.
Hey Karl –“Policies of the current administration have
been less than concrete and it makes the enemy think they can get what they
want.”. . . And yet there were more beheadings of Americans
during the Bush administration. Go figure.Hey DN Subscriber
–“If we cannot protect Americans abroad, and will not
secure our national boarders at home, we have ceased to exist as a country, let
alone a world power.”In other words, if we keep accepting the
advice of American “Conservatives,” we can’t exist as a world
power.Engaging in an unprovoked war against Iraq and occupying
that country to engage in “nation building” resulted in this
current state of affairs.American “Conservatives” are
the most effective allies to the enemies of this nation.
Hey Redshirt –“If you hate Bush so much, why do you like
Obama?”. . . Because Obama is NOTHING like GW Bush. Obama is
a pragmatist, and an intelligent and reasonably effective leader.Obama does not kowtow to America’s willfully unaware
“Conservatives,” who really don’t know what’s going on
in the world and who apparently can do NO good for this nation.“Conservative” leadership gave us 911 and the Iraq war . . . and
gave rise to ISIL and the current state of affairs in the Middle East. Do you
actually think that killing over 100 thousand Iraqis in an unprovoked war won us
any Muslim friends in the Mideast? The last thing a President should
do is pay ANY attention at all to what “Conservatives” want. I’m glad I could help.
To "GaryO" thanks for letting us know that you are so blind to what Bush
did, and what Obama is currently doing that you cannot recognize that they are
virtually the same except for the magnitude. However, if you think
otherwise, tell us what Obama has done that is different from Bush?FYI, Iraq wanted the US to remain there with combat troops but Obama decided
it was more politically expedient to pull the troops out. See "Obama
adjusts Iraq narrative, now blames Bush for troop withdrawal" in the
Washington Post. There are also other news reports of Iraq asking for combat
troops to remain, but Obama didn't want to leave troops there.I
know that facts are the last think you want to read, but those are the facts.
GaryO, you don't supply examples of Obama's intelligence, and
leadership!Give some examples and enlighten us.
