Simple. If Palestine wants peace, they shouldn't let their leaders fire
weapons into their heavily armed neighbors territory. What did they expect?
That the Jews would just line up to die haplessly?Of course, the
democrats here will complain about "Brutal bloodthirsty Israelis harming
innocent palestinian children." You can count on Democrats (rather,
progressives) to agree with Hamas, Fatah, and other terrorists.
@Vanceone" You can count on Democrats (rather, progressives) to agree
with Hamas, Fatah, and other terrorists."I can count on some to
paint everything as good vs evil, black or white, but there's a lot of
shades of grey in there (let's ignore the 50th one...). The people of Gaza
are confined to a small area (slightly larger than Salt Lake City proper but
with 8x the people) and are subject to a rather debilitating conditions thanks
to Israel's practical seize of the area. They have little opportunity for
economic advancement, are lucky if they have power 12 hours a day, and feel
oppressed by their neighbor. Not unsurprisingly they've turned to a
misguided organization... a very misguided organization. However, Hamas crimes
does not mean that Israel does not also commit some reprehensible actions
itself. Criticizing Israeli decisions doesn't inherently mean support for
Hamas or hating Israel just like criticizing Obama doesn't mean someone
Sorry, I meant seige, not seize.
Sadly, there is almost always collateral civilian deaths in almost every war.
This is especially true when a group like Hamas sets up their rocket firing pads
in civilian residential neighborhoods. Regardless of where they are, Israel
still needs to take them out. Thankfully, they are civil enough to warn people
in the effected areas before bombing them in order to minimize civilian
deaths..All Hamas has to do is quit sending rockets indiscriminately
into Israel and all of this would stop. Instead, Hamas is counting on
international pressures to side with them. That is a deadly and foolish
If you want to end Hamas you have to cut off the head of the snakes. Destroying
the cowards home's will do nothing.
The Palestinians are allies of the Hamas so what did they expect to happen when
war became a fact of life for them? Peace is an act of surrender and the allied
Hamas/Palestine group is losing. If they want peace then put down their arms and
take their children home and feed them. If the Gaza doesn't want peace then
they will have to suffer the consequences of thier actions forcing this war.
"Even before the shutdown, Gaza residents only had electricity for about
three hours a day because fighting had damaged power lines. Most of the power
lines from Israel that provided electricity for payment were previously damaged
in the fighting." That's hilarious and indicative if the vacuous MSM.
It's true, a Hamas rocket did take out power lines by landing in Gaza as
more than 100 other of their own rockets did. Other power lines were
intentionally cut by Hamas and Israel posted videos of terrorists doing" it.
There is no moral equivalency to the actions of Israel and those of the PA,
Hamas and the Palestinians," Israel is moral and defending itself against
terrorists, the others are indiscriminate murderers. If this were coming from
Canada into the U.S. Lurch, our Secretary of State, would not be telling
Americans to mute the response.
@Vanceone" You can count on Democrats (rather, progressives) to agree
with Hamas, Fatah, and other terrorists."You can also count on
some right-winger to use every opportunity to excoriate Democrats with
stereotypes, tarring everyone with the same brush. The reality is that this
Democrat, as well as all the other Democrats of my acquaintance, strongly
supports Israel and condemns Hamas for their terrorist acts against Jews. When
the Arabs launch missiles from protected sites, use human shields, and
intentionally target civilians, international laws of land warfare make them
liable for any casualties that result from their actions. Israel would be well
within their rights to hit those sites hard without the warnings and efforts
they use to warn civilians and to minimize collateral damage, but they work hard
just the same to prevent as many deaths and injuries as possible. Even with the
war going on, they've sent in hundreds of truckloads of relief supplies to
Gaza and continue to supply them with power.
@everyone on this site.Hamas violates international law. But so
does Israel. As we finance Israel and not Hamas, that means, Israel are our
terrorists. Besides, Israel does the same. Several years ago when they
attacked Lebanon Israel put a rocket battery next to an Israeli Arab school.Israel is not the innocent party here. Hamas and the Palestinian
authority formed a unity government and Israel responded by arresting 200 Hamas
members in the West Bank. So, of course, Hamas responded. They are trying to
get their guys out of jail.In addition, Israel has imposed a
blockade on Gaza which in itself is an act of war. Yes, Israel is heavily armed
and Gaza is not. But Gaza is not going to roll over and play dead just because
Israel wants them too. One Israeli general said that their purpose is to get
the Palestinians to realize they've been defeated. As long as
they keep fighting the 1948 war to get their land back (which is what they are
doing) they are not defeated.
The article tells us: "The heavy strikes were a new blow to international
efforts to reach a sustainable truce in the fighting, now in its fourth
week." All of those folks striving for a "sustainable truce" are on
a fool's errand. There can be no such thing. The two sides have mutually
exclusive goals: Hamas wants the Jews dead, and the Israelis want to live. How
do you reach a "sustainable truce" with people who are determined to
kill you?It takes two to make peace, but only one to prevent peace.
The Moslems are that one. The Moslem god, Allah, in the Koran, and the Moslem
prophet, Muhammad, in his sacred sayings, command Moslems to make war on the
Jews and either kill them or subjugate to them to Islamic rule. The very
existence of Israel stands as a rebuke to Islam itself. Therefore, no Moslem can
make peace with Israel without violating the sacred commands of his god and his
prophet. That is why the conflict is intractable. It takes two to make peace,
but only one to prevent peace.
Incredibly, my last comment was denied. I quoted the American general William
Tecumseh Sherman's description of war, in which he used a word that appears
often in Deseret News articles and scores of times in the Holy Bible. Apologies
for what the ROE here define as "obscenities and vulgarities" - and for
the greatly diminished meaning of my revised comment.War is an
awful, dreadful thing that people do to each other. It is especially appalling
when innocent civilians are dragged into it. And it is most terrible of all when
your own leaders, the people you are supposed to trust to protect you, use you
and your children, your hospitals, schools, homes, even places of worship, as
shields to commit acts of terrorism on civilians of another nation. The taking of Israeli lives and the destruction of Israel matter more to Hamas
than the lives of innocent Palestinian children, who are only pawns. The tragic
loss of innocent Palestinian children's lives can stop today. The power to
stop it rests with Hamas.
