Good for Governor Perry. Finally, a politician who is actually taking action!Paying anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 per person to smugglers to get to
the USA border, it's obvious these illegals aren't destitute. Many
people in the world can't come up with that much money. From
interviews, their self-admitted primary reason for the current flood of illegals
is because word on the street in South America is that now is the time to
come... that people (and especially minors) won't get sent back because of
Obama's Executive Order to replace his desired amnesty "Dream Act"
that Congress wouldn't pass. And because of that, our
immigration system has become totally overwhelmed. Border agents aren't
currently able to do what they were hired to do, which is to guard the border.
As such, there are a lot more drugs getting through, as well as criminals who
would never be allowed to come here legally. There have been other
politicians claiming that sending 1,000 National Guardsmen to temporarily assist
would dramatically help the situation. Sadly, Obama won't try that or
anything else. He's only reinforcing his current "do-nothing
Even if this National Guardsmen plan is only temporarily successful, it will
stem the tide of illegal immigrants long enough for word to back to these
peoples' home countries that the free ride is over and their version of
amnesty is no longer automatically forthcoming. Once the next tide
of illegals coming here gets stopped and sent back to their home countries, word
will quickly spread and people in South America will no longer be willing to
risk spending $5-10k to human smugglers if there is a reasonable chance they
will be sent back. There is no valid reason why this plan using
National Guardsmen won't work. And it's certainly better than doing
absolutely nothing, which is the habit the White House has gotten into whenever
a crises arises... nationally or internationally. They keep saying they are
studying their options, but then never following-up with any action. It's no wonder whatsoever that Obama's approval ratings are falling
and now in the toilet. When states try to take action, Obama sues them stating
that immigration is a federal responsibility. But the feds aren't taking
this important responsibility seriously. Kudos to Texas.
It's political theater, nothing more. This act only increases the number
of people the illegals can turn themselves in to. Repealing GW Bush's 2008
act needs to be the first step.
It sure appears that Obama's regime are working with the mexican government
to bring these illegals here at this time. mexico used to shoot any illegals on
site who crossed their southern border, but now they are getting herded all the
way through mexico where they cross the border. The corrupt mexican government
gets kickbacks from the coyotes and cartels moving drugs and humans through to
the US, and Obama gets more democrat voters. Sounds like the
perfect scam on the American people, and we need to vote out EVERY politician -
democrat and republican - that supports amnesty. Obama's corrupt
administration is directly responsible for this invasion, since he is the one
who has been trumpeting on Univision that he will give amnesty to illegals this
1000 guardsmen on the Texas/Mexico border is a drop in the bucket. They may
catch a few people crossing the border but that is not going slow the tide.
Which makes this little more than a publicity stunt. A very expensive publicity
I applaud Gov. Perry's efforts and hope he can at least slow down the
(obvious) lawbreakers crossing the border.1000 is good 10,000 would
have been better. The problem I have with Gov. Perry's approach
is that Obama may just takeover the national guard and force them to stand down.
That would leave Perry with the choice of activating a state militia (which he
has the authority to do)but would take the national guard out of his control.Obama has done EVERYTHING in his power to allow illegal trespassers
access to this country. He stopped Gov. Jan Brewer from even apprehending
illegal trespassers.Good luck to Gov. Perry!!I'm
not convinced that Obama even WANTS the illegal trespassing to stop. If
I'm right - things will get worse and worse..........
@ Russell10:You are contradicting yourself. If this number is
"just a drop in the bucket" as you contend, then it really won't be
all that expensive, as you also contend. But the truth is, it's
about a 25% increase in the amount of border coverage in that area. And
it's the area most prevalent to illegal crossings. As such, it would make a
huge difference. And as Loconic said, even if they are just able to
take care of the minors currently taking so much of the Border Guards'
time, it would, at the very least, put the real Border Guards back on the border
and thus dramatically slow down the illegal adults and illegal drugs currently
coming into our country uncontested. Those activities have gone up significantly
since those guards have been pulled away from the border and their attention
diverted to the children. But beyond that, there's a good chance
they can keep many of the accompanied minors from crossing the Rio Grande river
and therefore becoming eligible for a hearing. That often takes over a year or
more. In fact, over 80% never show up for their hearings anyway.
@LoconicExcept that the Dream Act passed through the Senate has a time
cutoff on who it would apply to and current migrants wouldn't be part of
it. The loophole they're using now is one passed under Bush in 2008 that
involves children fleeing from countries as refugees (at the time the concern
was about child trafficking). However, it was broad and pretty much allowed for
a lengthy process to investigate the case for every child that crosses (except
Mexico and Canada which has a different set of speedier rules, what Republicans
are looking to pass are something that puts every nation on those Mexico/Canada
rules). Sending more guardsmen isn't going to do anything about
a situation where children cross the boarder and then deliberately seek out
Action or no action. Either way this problem is ours (U.S.). This needs to be
dealt with directly. It's a shame that Governor Perry is forced to fill in
the gaps that the Federal Government can't. Where are you at U.S. Congress?
Mr. President? Cartels were shooting accross the Rio Grande last week. Hello
McFly?? Is anybody home on the Hill?
I say all our Federal legislators and Obama Administration go down to the border
in person and guard it themselves until they figure out an idea. Lead by example
RICK PERRY FOR POTUS!About time someone with some brains tackles
this issue, while Obama is AWOL fundraising!!
Governor Orval FaubusGovernor Jim RhodesGovernor Rick PerryHumanitarians the lot...
There should be National Guard troops from all 50 states sent to the border to
help. If the immigrants cross over the southern border they will be transported
to areas around the country by ICE and DHS.I understand that Mexico,
which normally has a zero tolerance for illegal immigration, gives these people
a 72 hour pass to get to the US. And the train that transports these people,
"the beast", is owned by a US company. If these people are
running from corruption and violence in their own countries send some special
forces units to train the military in these countries to deal with the
problem.Congress should deny Obama the funds that he is asking for.
So Rick Perry thinks that an additional 1,000 National Guard troops will make a
significant influence upon a 1,954 mile border?
Not sure exactly what perry thinks the guard is going to be able to do that the
border guards are not already doing. According to the agents at the border they
started to see a decrease over the last couple of weeks anyway and any further
reductions are going to have to start were the problem begins by working withe
the countries were they are coming from to stabalizegtheir own countries. If
perry wants to help that is the place to start.
A blanket amnesty would result in a Tsunami of immigrants. IF that is what you
liberals want so be it.
While our commander is trying to protect Ukraine, play pool, and do fund
raisers.Perry is showing his patriotism by serving the United States
of America.Way to go!!
This is just a bunch of hot air from another governor trying to set him/herself
up for a reality show or presidential run. Keep in mind, The NG
personnel cannot arrest subjects, detain subjects, or take sworn statements from
subjects. Why is that? They don't have the authority to enforce immigration
law. So outside of sending 1,000 personnel to help babysit and change diapers,
what good is this? Perry says all this, but I guarantee that if you
told him the answer is going after Texas businesses that are employing illegal
immigrants as a means of cheap labor you wouldn't hear much out of him.
I think most of the commenters, as well as Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Jason Chaffetz
should go to the border and help round up these kids. Perhaps seeing the faces
of kids who have nothing in life but fear would give them all some humanity.
It is a shame the President would not go down there himself. The
Posse Comitatus Act, as modified in 1981, refers to the Armed Forces of the
United States. It does not apply to the National Guard under state authority
from acting in a law enforcement capacity within its home state or in an
adjacent state if invited by that state's governor. The governor
appears to be under his authority and enforcement powers. Sheriff departments
are county officials and the federal agencies usually have a conflict with
county officials with enforcing. The President appears to have a
quagmire. He has lived in foreign countries and knows what it is like to have
desires to be here. Even his uncle knows that. We can't have unregulated
borders for many reasons, for our own safety and security, foreign and domestic.
As a constitutional attorney, he should know his responsibilities for our
Perry is a hypocrite. The Obama Administration doubled spending on the border.
The Border is more secure than Perry would have made it. Perry wants
to spend 11 million a month but then wants the Federal Government to pay him
back. The GOP put the laws in force that are protecting those kids and now
Perry wants to thwart his own parties laws. All he is doing is hurting people
so he can grandstand.
@Mark from Montana,Great comment. How about the children in North
Korea, India, Cuba, and Africa? You can dig into your pocket, and
Obama could sacrifice a couple vacations to help these children.@Utefan60,I live on the border. Hundreds cross a day. I see them
with my own eyes. You don't know from SLC.The border is not
Sorry folks, but if you take away Texas, this country would collapse.
California and New York are dead weight, and Texas by itself has a stronger
economy then the rest of our country.I would take this border issue
@Worf.Except that they wouldn't come to texas to stay. They pay
little more than Mexican wages and parts are more frightening than Columbia. I
think you have a wonderful idea and should get your governor on board."Remember the Alamo" when your talkin tough.
This is the same highly intellectual Governor which could not name all three
branches of government during the debates. Correct?
