The attack on the Common Core is not led by educators. We are glad to have some
kind of correlation among all the states. What we resent is the obsession with
testing and the way it punishes teachers who choose to help poor and otherwise
at risk students.
Common core should never had been started to begin with. Our children
go to school for learning. Not to be tested, compared, and held
accountable to the state, and feds.
I'm one teacher that is adamantly opposed to Common Core. We need to get
rid of federal involvement in education altogether. One of the biggest lies
ever told was the one JFK said, trying to get elected as President, that the
Russians beat us to space because of our education system. It had nothing to do
with education and everything to do with starving their citizens and spending it
on a militaristic space program. The next greatest lie was the
so-called "Nation at Risk" report that said our nation was at risk
because of our schools. Our schools were the envy of the rest of the world.
Everyone else was trying to copy our schools, while we began systematically
tearing them apart from the Left and the Right. Local teachers and parents have
held it together amazingly well for what they have endured, but NCLB and CCSS
are making teaching almost unbearable. Return us to what made our education
system the greatest on earth - the local control of our schools!
