What, exactly, does Boehner, or in fact ANY republican ever do to
help/assist/lead? All I ever hear from the GOP is criticism, and they do nothing
except gripe. This is exactly why we will have another democratic
President, and likely for the next 8 years.Know what's killing the
This has to be one of the saddest situations in modern history. A Republican
party that has no interest at all in solving problems. There's
wide swaths of agreement across both parties and across the nation on this
problem and immigration as a whole and their first reaction is NO,No,
No...it's the Presidents fault.Disgusting.
Republicans would have favored Obama's plan if they had come up with it
themselves. Republicans are more concerned about politics than they are about
solving the problem. Isn't this obvious?
"saying Obama caused the problem and now wants Congress to sign off on more
of the same."I thought he didn't want Obama making more
What a no win situation... Send the minors back and where do they go? Back to
violence? Back to homes that may or may not exist? Keep them here and how much
will it cost to feed, house and educate them? Absolutely disgusted
with Congress as a whole. No one offers decent immigration reform.. just whine
whine whine and point fingers. A pox on both their houses.
Politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle are frustrated that Obama doesn't at
least try to stem the tide of illegal trespassers.WHY should they
give him more money when they have no idea whether he'll actually use it
wisely? He has a lousy track record of upholding laws that he doesn't
like. Why should we trust him this time?ANY logical
person would "raise their eyebrows" if they were told that it takes 80k$
to deport one individual!
"What he appears to be asking for is a blank check — one that would
allow him to sustain his current failed policy," said McConnell, R-Ky.
"We want to make sure we actually get the right tools to help fix the
problem. And that's not what we've seen so far from the
president."Why should congress just hand out money without
changes to the actual law?It is the failed policy that got us into
this problem in the first place. I thought the president said the border was
In other words, those on the far right are trying to keep Obama from getting
anything done, so they can complain that Obama didn't get anything done.
Business as usual for Boehner, McConnell, et al.
Why isn't the border secure?Because Congress has continually
failed to fund more effective barriers and has refused to do anything that would
actually solve the problem. This goes back long, long before Obama.Republicans complain and yowl, but offer NOTHING of substance to solutions.
They hope that we will all forget that the law that is preventing Obama from
acting came from GW Bush, who was a Republican.Frightened Democrats
in Congress join in because they are afraid that hate radio will and the
Republican propaganda machine might convince people that they are supporting
Obama if they try to do anything to actually solve this mess.About
the only thing more frightening and disgusting than the GOP's idiocy in all
this is the fact that most of those clowns will be re-elected.
"I'm not interested in photo ops," Obama shot backHAHAHAHAYeah, the Pope is Jewish."The money is
intended to add immigration judges, detention facilities, aid for the children
and teens arriving here without their parents"But instead will
be used to delete more emails, pay for more cover-ups, and partisan attacks.BO's request is purely POLITCAL. NONE of this can possibly be in
place until AFTER this fall's election, and most not until after the 2016
election. "Many...report hearing rumors that once here, they
would be allowed to stay."BO can deny those rumors all he wants,
but his policies have led to those rumors.SharphooksWhat,
exactly, does Boehner, or in fact ANY republican ever do to help/assist/lead?Preventing BO from doing MORE damage is of great help and probably the
MOST important things they can do.Furry, see the above paragraphPragmatistThis has to be one of the saddest situations in modern
history. A dem party whose only interest in problems is to create then exploit
them for political gain.JD Jones,No, what is obvious is BO and
the dems are doing exactly what you accuse the GOP of
If the border wasn't secure how are all the flood of immigrants being
caught and detained? Many in this new flood are children, not drug smugglers or
criminals. BO's approval ratings may be around 40% but that's 4
times the GOP's approval rating. You know why? Because our President is
an activist trying to get things done, instead of a Monday morning, arm chair
complainer that can't even settle their own problems inside the GOP.
All border states need to call up their National Guard. Round up all immigrants
crossing the border and put them on a military transport and fly them directly
to a base in south america where their parents can pick them up. This solution
may sound uncaring, but welcoming them with open arms into this country will
only make the problem worse.
All of this political posturing has nothing to do with immigration reform and
everything to do with politics. Most of the commenters here point their fingers
at the Republicans and cry “Foul!” However, both you and I both know
very well that if the shoe were on the other foot, it would be the same thing in
reverse. If Mitt had been elected and put forth a plan to stem the flood of
illegals, all the Democrats would be demeaning it and shrieking, “No, no,
no!” and offering no alternative solution. This is not either
a Republican or a Democrat problem. It is a political problem and as long our
representatives keep shouting at each other and failing to put their heads
together and work an equitable solution, NOTHING will continue to get done. It
will be business as usual and we will continue to teeter on the precipice until
all the rhetoric pushes us over. And while we are disappearing into
the abyss, you and I also know what will happen on that ride. The
finger-pointing will continue as to who pushed us over and we will reach our
magnanimous end full of our self-righteousness. Nice!
"Boehner, McConnell blast Obama border request"Are we really
surprised? Republicans are outraged that illegal aliens/refugees are
surging over the border, but they conveniently forget that they INSISTED on
sequester, which is still in effect, and that necessitates that overburdened
border security must do much more with much less funding.Republicans
have a habit of blaming the consequences of their numerous mistakes on anybody
and everybody else.. . . No surprise there.
I am sick and tired of the "Do Nothing Congress" label coming from the
ignorant Left. They have no interest in trying to put out the many fires of
turmoil in the world created by poor policy from this poor excuse of a
president. The Left is only interested in protecting the guy they elected from
criticism at any cost. Republicans and Congress have come up with several
solutions to the mess Obama has created only to get blocked by Harry Reid in
the Senate or Obama with the veto pen. He creates a porous immigration policy
where unsupervised minors are coming in droves and he simply ignores it. He is a
pathetic excuse for a leader. His MO?: throw more money at every problem and
blame the Republicans. Just because you voted for him doesn't
make him a good president. No more than voting for Bush made him a good
president. How about we start looking out for what is best for America instead
of being so concerned with what is best for Obama?
throwing billions at a terrible Obama policy fixes nothing...absoultely nothing
...and that is what the GOP and many Democrat's are saying. The REAL
immediate solution it to get these kids safely home to their home country ASAP.
The GOP also have a valid point in asking the president to cut other of his pet
programs to get the billions he needs for this problem seeing that HE alone
created this border mess. In the real world when you create a mess you clean the
mess up and not go barking at others to do it for you....but that's not the
Barack way. Barack creates messes then blames others. Classic Barack.
Boehner should just cry. He's not going to do anything helpful or useful.
Look at the content of the notes garnering the most "likes" and that of
those with fewer, or none.
Obama's idea is to throw more money at a broken system. Tell aliens we
will give amnesty to their children and then blame republicans when children
start showing up at the border.Congress can't get anything done
because of a democratic senate and president. All the democrats can do is blame
Bush and congress. Democrats have 2/3rds of the power, the fault is squarely on
It's good to hear Obama say he is interested in solving the problem. He has
been in office now almost 6 years and has only created massive problems. I
can't think of one that he has solved.
The track record of more money/more government is not all that great.I'd tell Obama NO as well.
Sharp Hooks says...Look at the content of the notes garnering the most
"likes" and that of those with fewer, or none. That proves
only one thing......that the gop is working while the Libs sit on their
collective all day blogging!Polls show Obama is tanking and was
graded just last week the worst POYUS since WWII......the GOP is going to sweep
the senate and bolster the congress and Obama can go back to lying and palying
@sharphooks"All I ever hear from the GOP is criticism, and they
do nothing except gripe" and you don't hear the same from the
President? The Republicans put forth proposals and they are ignored
or criticized by the Senate Dems or the Pres. The problem is not Republican! The
Problem is not Democrat! The problem is America. We have become so polarized
that you are seen as evil if you try and compromise or even talk with the other
party. The Republicans like to throw out Reagan but not one
Republican truly compares. He would talk with Tip O'Neil and work on
compromise. Dems like to throw out names like Kennedy, Roosevelt,
Lincoln but they don't understand compromise either.Compromise
= Willingness to accept (not like) 70% of a proposal.America has the
worst President, Senate and House in it's history. They all share equal
blame. America's problem is; instead of removing the knuckleheads; we keep
support all of them and then complain when nothing is done. We need 2 new
parties that can share differing views and work together. That will make things
better. America just needs to have the courage to make the change.
@ TruthOne of the reasons why the GOP continues to lose national elections
is because they live in an alternative reality sustained by Talk Radio and Fox
News. "Polls show Obama is tanking and was graded just last week the
worst POYUS since WWII......the GOP is going to sweep the senate and bolster the
congress and Obama can go back to lying and palying golf!"This recent
poll that conservatives keep refering to is exactly that, a poll. And when you
dig into the poll you see that 90% of Republicans picked BO as the worst
President while the Democrats had so many terrible Republican presidents to
choose from they split their vote 3 ways between Bush, Bush, and Nixon. BO still
has a 40% approval rating and only 18 months ago Americans decided he was a
better choice than an ex-Govenor from Massachuetss who left office with a 33%
approval rating and he could not even carry his home state. BO's not going
anywhere and either is the Democratically controlled senate for another 2 years.
The only ones that don't believe that are the ones who continue to live in
the FOX hole.
You know what Obama's request contains? Funds for forest fire fighting,
among other pork items. Why in the world should Congress roll over and pass yet
another Obama wish list that has little to do with the claimed program?Of course, say the liberals, it's all the evil Republicans fault, and
Saint Barry, the Messiah Incarnate, cannot possibly do anything wrong. It's
only the devils who oppose Him that prevent utopia!
SharpHooks, I agree with you, the republicans do resist everything that the
president tries to do. I believe it is for two reasons.1. They
genuinely disagree with his approach to solving problems.2. He lacks
the interpersonal skill set persuade them to change their mind.Being
a poor leader, he has never put in the time and energy to build relationships
with the republicans. Now is the time when he needs their cooperation but he has
invested Zero amount of capital in the relationship bank.It is
really sad to watch him these past few months. Given time he may have been a
good senator, but frankly he is just not a leader. The electorate
overlooked the fact that he had never in his life lead a single organization of
any kind and gave him the job of leading the most difficult to run organization
on the planet. We are seeing the results. And it is painful to watch.
Hey Idablu -"I am sick and tired of the "Do Nothing
Congress" label coming from the ignorant Left."I bet you
are.And it's not only Leftists . . . We Moderates are also very
aware of the fact that this same Do-Nothing Congress has been chained down by
what passes for Right Wing ideology these days."Conservatives" in Congress apparently can do Nothing of value for
this nation. They only seem to be able to offer complaints, remonstrations, and
attempts to shift the blame. That Conservative inaction, folks, is
IDENTICAL to Conservatives in action.Tragic, isn't it?
The semi-official GOP line: DO something, Mr, President, I mean, Barry! We
demand that you DO something! BTW, don't count on us to actually PAY for
anything you plan to DO.
@pragmatistferlife:"A Republican party that has no interest at all in
solving problems."Let's take a look...Barack
Hussein Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) entices
children from Central American countries to the US by the hundreds of thousands.
And DACA is against US immigration law.Parents of the illegal
children pay thousands to Mexican coyotes to get their children transported to
the US border. There the Obama administration (DHS & HHS) takes over,
receiving the illegals, feeding and housing them, then busing them to close
relatives or families here. Mission accomplished. The Obama
administration and the Mexican coyotes make very effective partners.
Congress makes laws ad the President is to carry out those laws through his
executive office. Congress passed the ACA and the President signed his own
flawed bill he asked Congress to pass and then read it. The problem with a man
elected who was art of community organizing with government money, deep pockets.
He doesn't know about profit lines only deficit and making it bigger.
All Obama wants to do is squander more money, period! Who would trust Obama to
do ANYTHING he says? No accountability whatsoever in securing the borders, none,
zero, zip, nada! Invite them in with promises of amnesty and whine about needing
more money for the crisis HE created!
If Obama is interesting in doing whatever he can to help the situation ASAP, he
would've already ordered the National Guard to the regions most effected to
work with border control agents who are currently overwhelmed and having to be
baby-sitters instead of guarding the borders. Adding 10,000 National
Guard members to assist wouldn't effect the budget. They are already being
paid from existing previously approved budget. They could keep the illegals from
reaching American soil and thus not need to process and then take care of them.
It's becoming nearly impossible to find housing to maintain their ever
growing numbers. The GOP in the House of Representatives has not
been doing nothing, as lefties like to claim. They have submitted multiple bills
to the Senate to address specific immigration issues and Harry Reid won't
even bring the bills up for vote. Instead, he declares them DOA upon arrival...
because they originate from Republicans and he doesn't want them to receive
any political credit when something actually works. National voting is soon.Liberals such as GaryO, pragmatisferlife and FT need to actually read
and do research before offering more rhetoric-based comments.
pragmatistyou don't know how many times I have tried to respond to
the outright lies, distortions, partisan attacks, personal attacks, hate speach,
etc coming from the left only to have the DN block my commentsyou
mean emails have NOT been deleted?mexican drug gang gun
sales and Bengazhi etc ad infinitum have/are NOT been(ing) covered up?BO NEVER attacks repubs? This is the most illogical, confused, and
childish statement. What the South American families are being told
are out right lies and has no basis in fact. Now explain to me how that's
Obama's fault. OKBO launched partisan attacks against
the GOP for blocking his open borders policy. SA families see him as wanting
open borders, and he has done little to discourage them believing that. Sure,
he has told them to stay home, but his actions - NOT sending them home and
LETTING them STAY are telling them otherwise. THAT is how is it BO's
fault. When you are known to be unfamiliar with the truth, do NOT be surprised
when people do not believe you. Grow up lefties. learn to take it
if you want to dish it out.
@ FT:Do you actually think the border is secure because "the
flood of immigrants is being caught and detained"?Wow. You need to get
on board. Read, watch or listen to the news... do something to get informed to
what's been happening with this border crisis. These illegals
are simply walking onto American soil and then turning themselves in to be
processed. That is what their human smugglers and their parents have instructed
them to do. It's almost effortless. They know they will then be sent (flown
or by bus) anywhere they want to go in the USA and the American taxpayer foots
the bill. What a scam they have going on. And it all originated with
Obama's personal version of the Dream Act he made law by his June 2012
Executive Order after Congress wouldn't pass the amnesty based immigration
reform bill he wanted. Granted, that Executive Order didn't
explicitly allow the illegal minors to do what they are now doing. But it create
a loophole that they are currently taking advantage of. He could simply issue
another Executive order to rescind the one creating the problem. But he
hasn't for political reasons.
@Loconic:"These illegals are simply walking onto American soil and
then turning themselves in to be processed. That is what their human smugglers
[coyotes] and their parents have instructed them to do."And US
government (border agents, DHS/HHS) picks it up from there. What a combination!
Parents, border patrol, coyotes, US government working in sync to flood the
country with democratic voters. Very, very clever.
@ WTZ:Those groups are not working in sync. Don't try to create
the customary liberal drama element. It fools very few people anymore. The only
clever ones in this process are the human smugglers who have made tens of
millions from this current group of nearly 60k "refugees" so far in this
year alone. BThe results are still the same. The country is starting to get
flooded, but not by voters.... just welfare cases. This isn't
rocket science. Don't be so naive. Do a bit of studying and find out what
these illegals are telling the border agents after they turn themselves in. It
verifies exactly what I previously wrote.
@Loconic:"Those groups are not working in sync."Call
it what you will. The end result is the same... illegals pouring into the US
and the American taxpayer picking up the bill. And by the way, the $2.7 billion
being requested by Barack Hussein Obama will go mostly for lawyers and judges in
the judicial system. And of course bus and air fair to get the illegal children
to their destination in the US... mom, dad, aunt, uncle, friend of the family...
you name it."Don't try to create the customary liberal
drama element."The liberals have created the drama themselves.
I didn't do it. I merely looked at the big picture."The
only clever ones in this process are the human smugglers..."My
point is that the human smugglers (coyotes) are using both sides of the
transaction... the parents on the sending end and the US government on the
receiving end. The net result is the same... millions of illegal immigrants and
higher taxes for the American taxpayer."This isn't rocket
science."True. It's more like... take the US taxpayer to
Not too many days ago, Boehner said the President has shown no leadership. I
beg to differ, when the Congress sits on its hands for years and the President
moves out to resolve difficult problem that is leadership. Saying he
doesn't adhere to the Constitution is laughable, they have not done their
job since Obama's first election. Remember McConnell comment about making
sure this is a one term President, the cannon fodder for that strategy is the
American people. Agree or disagree with the President as adults to resolve
the issues of this country but when the Congress is in a playpen whining about
little Billy took my toy truck is not right. We have an Adult now, one of the
GOP's own making.
Republicans own this mess! Now shut up and help fix it!In 2008,
President George W. Bush signed into law the William Wilberforce Trafficking
Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, which said that unaccompanied minors
from countries non-contiguous with the United States (i.e., countries other than
Mexico and Canada) are afforded greater legal protections. When a child shows up
at the border from Mexico or Canada, for instance, a Border Patrol agent has the
legal authority to decide whether that child may be eligible to stay in the
country. Republicans backed that law, and now they are the ones who
don’t want to enforce it!The so-called “immigration
border crisis” is neither about immigration nor the border. There are two
separate crises that Republicans (and a few liberals) are conflating for
political reasons.Instead of hurling attacks and misinformation, it
would be great if Republicans would actually pass—or at least allow
votes—on these bills. That would be a nice start.
Give them what they yell for and they will yell against it. Tea Party influence
Obama is not doing anything about this border crisis because he has orchestrated
it and is now watching the fruits of his labors unfold, laughing about it.
Creating massive poverty is one of the steps to creating a socialist state. This
is what he is doing, step by step, with precise planning. Using children as
capital for this phase. Silly me, I thought he couldn't execute anything.
