    We have good economic news, and a seeming end to the near depression that started with the previous President. Things are still tough for those at the bottom of the economic strata, but improving. At least they can get quality healthcare in many states (sorry poor in Utah, but you don't apparently deserve this).

    I doubt the Obama-haters or the Tea Party set will give any credit to the Administration.

    I also wonder how much further ahead in the recovery we might be if the Tea Party/Republican sects had not hindered, thwarted and demonized the Presidents's other plans to improve the economics of the country.

    Okay, conservatives, tell us why Obama is the stinker now? What new and ingenious claims will you now make? I anxiously await new entertainment and a good laugh.

    Remember President Bush's the economic sky is falling speeches? The President turned it around while being yelled at constantly by Santelli and the "tea party"

    I hate to break your bubble but these numbers are worthless! "The rate fell because many (about 90 million actually) people got fed up, stopped looking for work and dropped out of the labor force altogether." This according to CNN Money Mag (The jobless have to be actively looking for work in order to be counted as unemployed by the Labor Department. It also does not include millions more Americans who are forced to working part time! Never in our history has so many Americans given up looking for work nor has there ever been so many forced to work part time! The real unemployment numbers are double digit!

    @Mountanman

    The article wasn't about the unemployment rate, rather that amount of applications for unemployment benefits has fallen drastically.

    @ Darrel. Please remember that these numbers are FIRST TIME applicants which do not include the long term unemployed or the part timers! It doesn't include about 90 million who have given up finding work.

    @Mountainman
    It is not 90 million who have given up finding work... you're counting every stay at home parent who was never going to look for work anyway, and every retired person too, at this point you might as well say 180 million and include every child too, that's how meaningless that stat is.

    @Mountanman

    Do you have a source for 90 million?

    Keep in mind that the entire population of the US is only 316 million.

    That includes kids who are not of working age (20% of population is under 15) so that brings the eligible working force to 252 million.

    Percentage over 65 is 14% so that brings the workforce to 231 million. Bringing the effective workforce to 208 million. If your 90 million is accurate, that brings our effective unemployment to 43%. That is before taking out college students not seeking work, disabled who cannot work, homes with the mom staying home etc...which could pull the effective unemployment rate to around 50%.

    The GDP would not be growing with 50% of our resources not being utilized.

    @schnee

    Actually is is you who are wrong. There are a record number of Americans not working as a direct result giving up seeking employment.

    Sure there are a number who were stay at home but that does not account for those who were seeking employment who have in fact quit looking as a result of the futility.

    This is a jobless recovery.

    It is a broken record to how many times the numbers are "revised" in a negative fashion after they trumpet this great news. Strange how it always is quietly revised in a negative direction instead of occasionally being the opposite huh?

    Its not really a coincidence at all.

    Welcome to a country of part time workers and jobs. If you are not at a professional level you stand practically no chance of getting a full time job.

    Thanks to obamacare we all now have a lower standard of healthcare and its more expensive. The same law that drives businesses to maintain people at part time so they are not forced to pay for healthcare.

    Bad govt. Bad policy. Bad results.

    No surprise...it was all forecast and now democrats admit it.

    Maybe the drop in numbers is because everyone is already on welfare. You don't need to apply for welfare once your on it.

    Meanwhile if mitt romney was president and the same news came out mountainman would be praising the president for great leadership.

    @ Schnee & Darrel. Happy to oblige. "Just after Labor Day, the Bureau of Labor statistics reported more than 90 million Americans age 16 and older were not in the labor force in August, the highest level recorded since the Department of Labor began collecting the data during the Truman administration three years after the end of World II"
    Of course this news was not reported in any of the main stream, protect Obama news outlets but as the late, great Winston Churchill once said, "Truth is inconvertible, ignorance will deny it and malice will attack it, but in the end, there it (truth) is!" So therefore I say with all my best wishes, there it is, do with it what you will! My only point is that your government is not telling you the truth, period!

    Any deep study of the true unemployment numbers across all classifications places true unemployment at 25% regardless of who was or is in Congress or the WH. I just ignore these fantasy numbers since they are pointless, misleading and completing manipulated or created out of thin air.
