Those of us who oppose amnesty have been pointing out for over a decade that
promises of amnesty will INCREASE illegal immigration. Even if they don't
get the amnesty this time, the illegals assume (correctly) that the odds of
deportation are about nil, and that they'll get the next amnesty when it
comes around. We've been saying this - for years. But according
to this paper and so many others, we're a bunch of nativist, xenophobic
ignoramuses who don't know squat.
“I wouldn’t put a lot of stock in the ability of Republican members
of Congress to divine the thoughts and insights of children in Central American
countries.”Except that according to hundreds of interviews,
virtually all of them were coming here because they knew they wouldn't be
deported, and almost none of them were fleeing violence.
The dishonesty over lack of immigration enforcement is out of hand. What's
going to happen to the hundreds of thousands of children sent here by
themselves? The article calls them immigrants, but they are not. An immigrant
comes here legally. Surely they are not planning on giving them amnesty, and
triggering another wave? The deferred adult program is nothing but a
back door for the family, just like the parents sending their children here, on
the hope they can sponsor their parents in the future. Those wanting
amnesty, even if it's just staying here and working are responsible here.
They have encouraged the law breaking by rewarding them for their actions. And
this is the result of their actions, more people dying in the desert, more
