Did they contact the NSA? If not, I would not call it a 'good-faith effort'.

emails do not reside on the computer, they reside on a server somewhere

this administration is incapable of making a good faith effort. All they do is delay, deny, and deflect.

does anyone believe anything coming from the White House anymore?

We're supposed to be the most technologically advanced country in the world and the white house is telling us its impossible to recover these emails?

Sorry barack, we're not buying it. Just more proof when he talked about being the most transparent presidency he confused the words "most" and "least"

What is really "far-fetched" and "not particularly believable" is that all these emails have been irretrievably lost. That was the case with John Swallow. It is the case with Lois Lerner.

Furthermore, the White House must think everyone is as easily misled as the devotees of MSNBC if it thinks a story like this is to be believed.

Those emails have been saved somewhere. And they need to be produced.

Yeah, and I believe in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Clause, too.

You can't ask for more than "a good faith effort."

Republicans in Congress like to complain. It’s what they do.

I wish they would get out of the way and let competent people govern, since they obviously don't want to themselves.

They complain, and they obstruct, and they invent "scandals," and they complain some more . . . But they don't seem to be able to actually do anything good for this nation.

    It's a pity.

Don't the consumer advocates tell us to shred our hard drives because they still contain the information? It's the same with email servers.

This administration has lost all credibility.

Call the NSA. I'm sure they have a copy. No one believes anything Obama says anymore.

They are lying through their teeth!

    @ GaryO:

What is actually a pity is the depth to which Obama apologists stoop to cover for the obvious incompetences coming to light under the Obama administration.

A TV commentator explained the other evening that there are some ultra-political followers who will cover for their person no matter how badly he (or she) fails. I wondered about that until I started reading some of your comments to political articles today. I then understood what he was talking about.

And yes, we can ask for more than just good faith efforts from our leaders. We can ask for actual results. Good results. Things we aren't now getting. Our border is still a sieve. Obamacare is still in disarray. The VA is a disaster. Foreign policy is convoluted on several fronts.

As such, Republicans and all Americans have reason to complain. We are not getting what we were promised during the campaign. Not even close. That some people have the audacity to still be blaming Obama's obvious shortfalls on Bush and Republicans is ridiculous. Sadly so.

If Republicans get completely out of the way and turn Obama loose, our country would soon implode. Big-time!

    @GaryO

"I wish they would get out of the way and let competent people govern, since they obviously don't want to themselves."

"They" is obviously referring to the Obama administration. The WH doesn't need the opposition to invent scandals, they do it quite nicely by themselves.

I'm sure, some fools will believe this.

The IRS doesn't lose records on people who owe money. Do they?

if barry's buddies say they made a good faith effort then I'll accept that because this administration is transparent and honest.

I'm sure Americans are going to sleep soundly tonight knowing that Obama has claimed that they made a "good faith effort". Because Obama would never be anything less than 100% honest and truthful, especially if politics are involved.

Dear Gary O: The hyperpartisanship that exists in some people is unbelievable.

These systems have numerous layers of back up and redundancy. Those emails exist and can be retrieved even no matter how much they tried to delete them. This is getting to sound more like Watergate all the time. Using the IRS to destroy political foes is the ultimate in corruption. I believe we will eventually get the truth.

Every Government Agency, by law, is required to have multiple back ups off site on all computer information. She is blowing smoke, because she and others have broken the law. Can't wait to see her and all the others involved behind bars.

It gets a little tiring to continue to hear lies concerning this IRS scandal and the white house. They just don't have a single computer like we do in the homes, it is a big server and lots of support..This is not just a computer problem.. it is a lying problem..Does anyone care about this country to start impeaching this president?

  • CynicJim Taylorsville, UT

Everyone knows there are redundant backup systems to prevent such an event. It clearly is a case of bald face lying on the part of our wonderful Fed government. The IRS and FBI are as out of control as the CIC and Congress. Lerner's retirement benefits should be forfeit until she comes forth with answers to her contempt of Congress charges.

Gary O, if this was a Democrat Congress going after a Republican President, the Dems would be asking for several pounds of flesh, a couple of heads, and be lying the whole time about what happened.

These stories aren't clear but there was a scandal a few years ago about government officials having private email accounts that were not under the control of the government.
It was a serious problem that got almost no attention.
If Lerner was one of those bureaucrats who kept her secret little account that wasn't backed up by the agency, we need to be told that and she needs to be prosecuted.
Otherwise, there is always a back up to all the government agency emails.

  • Justmythoughts Provo, UT

This can't actually happen. There are too many backups throughout the system. The only way the emails can be lost is if someone wants them to be lost.

At least Nixon gave us the Rose Mary Woods explanation for the missing audio. All we get from this administration is shrugs.

    Flashback -

" . . . if this was a Democrat Congress going after a Republican President, the Dems would be asking for several pounds of flesh, a couple of heads, and be lying the whole time about what happened."

    WRONG.

The Dems aren't like that. Mindless vindictiveness, jealousy, and unbridled hatred are not characteristic of the Democratic Party.

By rights, key members of the Bush administration should be charged with war crimes in international court, but we Democrats realize that even though such action is very much deserved, it would not be in the best interests of America; and so we won't press for justice in that case.

It's not the Dems who are more than happy to harm America and Americans if it can somehow hurt the opposition Party.

It is not Democrats who shout anti-government slogans, murder police officers, and drape their bodies with Tea Party flags and swastika banners.

It wasn't the Dems who literally made a Federal Case out of a President's sex life, instead of paying attention to more important issues like Terrorism.

You must be thinking of some OTHER Party.

I have generally been supportive of this Administration. I really fail to see the scandal in the "IRS Scandal" - a political group should not receive tax exemption, therefore the hold up seems alright by me.

However, that being said, I find it straining credibility that these emails would simply disappear. Especially when this has gone on for a year already, and we suddenly discover them gone?

If there has been misconduct, and it can be proven, I hope those involved are punished accordingly.
