The GOP is at it again!Acting as if Obama is doing something never
done before. In reality, prisoner exchanges have been going on for centuries.
Some of the most worshipped presidents did them too. Lincoln, FDR, Eisenhower,
Reagan, etc.The GOP is just playing politics and can't let
Obama get credit for anything.
This guy should be sent to jail.
Thank you Ted Cruz for showing everyone just how extreme you are.You
know those commercials after a Super Bowl where somebody tells the MVP
they're going to Disney World, and as a promotion the MVP says
"I'm going to Disney World!"The Democrats should put
together a similar advertisement, but turn it around, "Hey Sgt Bergdahl, Ted
Cruz and other extreme Republicans think you should still be in Afghanistan.
What do you think of that?"For all we know our government put
chips in these guys, and we'll get them via drones, which would surely
break the hearts of Republicans.
And who, Aggie5, do you think should be put in Jail? Sgt Bergdahl? Of course
let's throw him in jail because that's where he deserves to be,
because he is after all only a pawn. An expendable pawn that has no real value
to society because he is a soldier captured by the Taliban....It would have been
better for him to die rather than become a pawn. Is that what you are saying? What a gutless, crass and hard hearted sugestion. I don't know, perhaps
acording to you we should throw all the VietNam POW prisoner exchange survivors
into jail too.You have no idea at all what filth has spewn from you.As far as the 5 terrorist let go, perhaps when they show their ugly heads
again we can properly help them find BinLaden and not need to put them in GTMO.
Yes, Republicans, turn the safe return of an American solider into another
excuse to throw a hissyfit and bash President Obama. That'll rally people
to your side...
This guy is a deserter, my son-in-law was one of the commanders on the base that
he walked away from and 2 soldiers were killed and 3 soldiers were critically
injured looking for him. My son-in-law told me that Bergdahl told several other
solders how much he hated out great country. Our glorious President Obama is
treating this as if he is to be treated as a hero. Bergdahl is a coward and spy
should be court martialed and then executed as a traitor and spy.
Recently, Obama pardoned tens of thousands murderers, rapists, and thieves. Now, five terrorists for one American.
My take: Obama Brokers Deal: 5 Afghan Muslim Terrorists for One Deserter Who Was
“ashamed of America.Good trade Obama.......competent?
NO......but at least you are consistent!!
Wow...it's apparent that some commentators aren't up to speed about
the suspicious circumstances of Bergdahl's "capture". He mailed
home most of his belongings, walked off the base at around 3:30am with only a
knife, leaving his weapon behind. He had sent numerous emails to his parents
saying "I'm ashamed to be American" amongst other disillusioned
statements. Of particular interest to those commanders and leaders that
understand the Taliban is how this guy lived for 5 years, when other Americans
"captured" by them were brutally tortured and butchered in short order.
There's a lot of evidence stacking up that this soldier was a deserter. We
will see as the evidence mounts, but it's not looking like Bergdahl is the
hero we all thought he was.As for prisoner exchanges, there's
certainly room for debate on that. Maverick, most of the presidents you cite
made exchanges for war prisoners and nationalists from sovereign nations, not
terrorists. Your comparison is disingenuous. Last I checked the US doesn't
negotiate or trade with terrorists...this does in fact set a new precedent.
Once again liberals commenting here are repeating the company line. It's
apparent none of them have read the twitter feeds, emails, etc from Bergdahl and
his father, as well as reports from soldiers and officers that served with him.
But go ahead and continue spewing whatever you hear from ABC and Obama. I mean
how anyone can question this president's honesty is just mind boggling--end
There have been prisoner exchanges in every war. Suddenly, Republicans hate
it?Maybe we should have put together a deal Republicans can relate
to. Instead of 1 of our soldiers for 5 of theirs, it should have been 1 soldier
for some weapons delivered to Iran. Oliver North is still around. He could
work out the details.
While I don't like Obama, I think this move has been well planned out and
there is more to this story than is being reported. Who trades 5 senior Taliban
leaders for sergeant whom many consider to have deserted. More than likely
Obama has been tracking where Bergdahl was transported from and are watching
those 5 Taliban leaders hoping they will lead them to other Taliban. If the
gamble works it then those 5 Taliban leaders will be dead and many others within
a year. If it fails Congress will be focused on this and forget about the other
problems like Libya, Syria, Egypt, Obamacare, etc... and Obama wins. Think about it this way. If there wasn't more to the story then why
wouldn't Obama just empty Gitmo of all the prisoners. It's easy to be
critical of Obama based on the prisoner trade however nobody trades 5 for 1
unless they have something else up their sleeves. Two for one but not 5 for 1.
Regardless of the circumstances of Bergdahl's capture, this deal to release
him makes no sense at all. While release of any American is good
news, there is also very, very bad news as a result. The capture of
Americans just got turned into a high profit business for any terrorist
anywhere. They now know they can get their comrades released and/or huge sums
of money for captives. No American is safe now, not military,
teachers, aid workers, tourists, or even school children. Not anywhere, in the
combat areas, or in "peaceful" urban areas like Paris or London, or even
here in the United States. Jihadis hate all Americans, and they do
not abide by the laws of war, so hostage taking is a great tactic for advancing
their cause. Obama's deal may have won him some favorable
publicity, and taken his numerous failings off the front page for a while, but
in the long run he has made an already dangerous world a much more dangerous
place for all Americans. Bergdahl is just a pawn in a much bigger chessboard of
international relations, and sadly, domestic politics as well.
I agree with hamberg. There is no way our president could be this
stupid.(just ask KJB or Maverick!)There MUST be something else going
It's always been a credo of our armed services to leave no man behind and
that includes deserters. If he deserted his post then let the military handle
that as they always do. For those BO haters out there this is not about him,
it's about our military and those that serve.
To DN Subscriber:Obama isn't stupid enough to trade 5 senior
Taliban leaders for a lowly sergeant that many consider to be a deserter. Maybe
one, possibly two but five? Think! That doesn't make sense. Why not just
release all of the Gitmo prisoners? There is more to this story and
it looks like Obama is taking a very calculated risk that I think even Ronald
Reagan might consider doing. Fly every Predator, monitor every phone call, do
everything the intelligence community can track and look at where Bergdahl was
being held. Track all those people including those released terrorists. They
may end up leading you to hundreds of other terrorists. If that
gambit fails then this trade will remove focus off of all the other political
failures going on right now. Obama is watching the polls and if those
terrorists lie low until after the elections then Obama can release the rest of
the Gitmo prisoners in 2015 without any political consequence. Obama closed
Gitmo making him popular with the liberal left and those against the wars or
I hate to break it to DN subscriber and a few other Obama critics, but prisoner
exchanges have been going on for centuries. Many presidents, Lincoln, FDR,
Truman, Eisenhower, Reagan, Clinton, and Obama have performed them. What
negative consequences were the result of their prisoner exchanges? Can't
find any? Good. Then I don't think we will have much to worry about with
this prisoner exchange. Besides, this man waited 5 years for this deal to be
made. Does anyone think that Taliban will be going into the business of
kidnapping Americans, holding them for 5+ years, just to have a few of their own
prisoners freed? Doubt it.Give credit where credit is
due!Saved the economy that Bush destroyed, got the guy responsible
for 9/11 who Bush failed at capturing, and now got all our troops out of the 2
wars that Bush started! God bless our President of the United States of America!
Clint2 -"Bergdahl is a coward and spy should be court martialed
and then executed as a traitor and spy."So what you're
saying is . . . we didn't trade for a captive POW . . . we traded for a
deserter and a spy who can now be tried for his crimes if that is found to be
warranted. Why is that not a good thing?
@Real maverick.....saved the economy?Really......and it was a video,
right? The economy is in the toilet and now he is about to cripple
the labor unions ......with global warming brouha......And just
today we find out he traded 5 Talibaners for one Taliban
collaborator.....that's batting zero!
More evidence that our commander is weak.
Do you defenders of this really want to stand behind it? We get back one, very
likely from all accounts, deserter who may very well have collabrated with the
enemy, and in exchange we get 5 world class terrorists back on the loose. And
we have the many killed and wounded soldiers who went looking for Bergdahl,
combined with however many were killed or wounded in capturing the 5 terrorists.
Bergdhahl should be court martialed when he returns to America, not given a
ticker tape parade.
