Did our President exercise due diligence before preemptively attacking Iraq? You would think given the Death and Destruction he caused on both sides
he would be embarrassed to go out in pubic. Were the reasons give at
the start of the war in Iraq the same reasons for going to war in the middle and
end of the war in Iraq? Why the difference?
Iron Rod,I think a majority of Americans have regrets that we went
to war in Iraq. However, at the time, most Americans (including a large number
of Democrats) favored going to war.The world all new that Saddam had
WMD (he had used them against the Iranians during the 80's, and he used
them against the Kurd's in the 90's--within the borders of his own
country). After the first Gulf Wart there were efforts to find and
destroy/dismantle all WMDs in Iraq. Saddam behaved to protect his stockpiles
even under the weight of world-wide pressure and having lost the first Gulf War.
He would refuse to allow inspectors in. A vote at the UN to increase sanctions
would be drawn, Saddam would say he would allow inspectors in, then he would
refuse their access to key sites and kick inspectors back out. This continued
for a decade, if not longer. UN resolutions often contained
provision for military force to eliminate stockpiles if Saddam did not comply,
but that provision was never enforced until the US finally said enough already.
…Saddam was also threatening Israel, greatly destabilizing the Middle
East, encouraging if not outright supporting terrorists in the region. A majority of Congress, including many Democrats, voted to authorize
going to war against Saddam, to remove him from power. Nearly every
intelligence agency and government in the world favored war with Iraq to remove
Saddam due to the widely held belief that he had WMDs (did they end up in Syria
and we are seeing them now? Quite possible).A little more
background information: Many Republicans were disappointed that Bush Sr. did
not take the fight to Baghdad in the first Gulf War. Also, Saddam and his
agents attempted to assassinate Bush Sr. Bush Jr did not ever state this, but
perhaps there was a revenge factor.Remember, however, that the US
did not go to war with Iraq until sometime after the Twin Towers attack in the
US. There was due diligence done before the rush to war. Unfortunately, Saddam
had time to move the WMDs, or every intelligence agency in the world got it
Iron Rod. The reason we went to war with Iraq is the same reason we went to war
with Germany and Japan and almost with Syria and Libya; to stop a murdering
dictator from killing their own people. Then we leave to allow the people to
govern themselves. We are liberators, not occupiers, unlike Putin. President
Bush told us we were in a new kind of war of ideology from many nations.
That's why we are still fighting al Qaida in Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan
and even here in our homeland. They are still attacking us and we are still at
war with them. We will go on fighting them whether you or any other liberal
likes it or not because they will continue to attack us. Iraq was and is a small
part of this ideological war!
Some people have not forgotten. It was reported today that Condolessa
Rice cancelled a commencement address at Rutgers University on May 17 for which
she would have been paid $35,000. Why? Many of the faculty and students wanted
to protest her role in the Iraq War.
@Thid Barker 8:10 a.m. May 3, 2014Your statement is wrong. We went
to war with Japan because they attacked us. We went to war with Germany because
they declared war on us after we declared war on Japan. Neither scenario
happened with Iraq. We attacked and occupied Iraq for no good reason, in
violation of international law and of the UN Security Council resolutions WE
drafted and got approved (I've read them all and know what they say -- that
the UNSC remains seized -- i.e., retains jurisdiction over -- the approving and
launching of attacks). A lot of men and women were killed, maimed and injured
because of what we did on the order of George Walker Bush. He should have been
sent to the War Crimes Tribunal at the Hague to answer for his answer for his
actions, but he skated. As the wife and daughter of veterans who
served honorably in time of war (and thankfully survived unhurt), I find it
obscene that George would now try to use injured veterans -- the people his
orders caused to be injured -- for political and/or financial gain, either for
himself or his organization.
Furry. What do you mean we were not attacked? Do you remember 9/11 when al
Qaida flew those airplanes into our buildings and murdered 3000 innocent people?
Nearly every Democrat voted to go to war with Iraq and now Obama is killing
people with drone attacks. Where is your outrage?
@Thid Barker 6:50 p.m. May 3, 2014Sorry, I'm not able to answer
your comment. I have posted my answer several times and the DesNews won't
let it appear. Just remember this -- it wasn't Iraq that attacked on 9/11.
That was AlQaeda and people from Saudi Arabia, and had nothing to do with Iraq.
Re Furry 1993Ogden, UTI have had the same problem. I posted
something which I considered relative innocuous and it keep appearing
"Banned Words". Any idea how you can find the list of "Banned
