I'll be the first to admit there is a lot about this deal that goes right
over my head. First, Biedrins was only on the team because he is in the last
year of his contract and so it frees up a bunch of money the Jazz can spend on
free agents next year. I'm know Lindsey knows what he's doing and that
by waiving Biedrins we won't lose that Biedrins salary to be able to spend
next year. It was just something I didn't expect to see with just a few
games to play. Also, what possible need do we have for this new player? I
would be surprised if this new guy sees even 1 minute of playing time so it
seemed odd to bring him here, but it will be interesting to see what Lindsey has
up his sleeve.
The issue with the "Warrior Three" of Jefferson, Rush, and Biedrins is
indeed a strange one.
Right team...wrong guy.
I watched a workout video and can see what Dennis sees in him, a stretch 4, who
can shoot the 3.Too many bigs playing well in Chicago to get any
time and they want a wing, so released him.Low risk to get his
rights and a deep look over the summer.Jazzaholic
The Jazz still have to pay Beidrens his whole $$$$$$$, no getting out of that. A
lot of teams have started sigining unknown players with the intent of using them
in trades as "filler". You sign a guy to a fair amount to include in
trades to make up the difference in salaries. Miami just did that with the kid
from Lone Peak. It is a new "bending the rules and getting away with it"
glitch in the union contract. New Jersey did it a few years ago with Van Horn
after he had retired. He never played again but pocketed a few cool millions for
agreeing to the deal. This kid likely won't see anything past this year.
Unless somehow he turns into a ringer over the summer. Not likely.
This is/was a money deal for Chicago. For whatever reason, the Jazz have a real
interest in Murphy and jumped at the opportunity; otherwise, they would have let
him clear waivers and signed him to a 10 day deal.
The Jazz do have an interest in this guy. They're also hoping someone
would've picked-up Biedrins for the playoffs, saving a few bucks anyways
