Barack said several times if someone wanted to keep their plan they could keep
it.Just another failed promise from barack.Hard to
believe anything this guy says anymore. Some example he is of a
"leader" for our country
I think this is a great moment for those who desperately need coverage and could
never get it without the ACA. The enrollment has exceeded expectations which is
miraculous considering the rocky start and all the naysayers.
Hitting the 7 million mark for enrollees means very little. Especially
considering there are over 300 million people still not using the system. That
means only 2% of the country will initially be participating. And if
the balance isn't right within that 7 million, that is, if there
aren't enough young, healthy enrollees to compensate for the older, less
healthy people who use insurance a lot, then the federal government will have to
dramatically subsidize Obamacare. That alone would be reason enough to want to
repeal it. Other reasons are yet to be more widely discovered. Like
how much more it will cost people who previously had health insurance. It will
actually double in cost for many. And how frustrating the huge deductibles will
be, making this primarily catastrophic health insurance. And many people will
soon discover their preferred doctors won't be available to them... a major
frustration. There's a valid reason Obama postponed the deadline
for most people to sign up until after the next election. He knows it won't
be popular and will cost the democrats politically. Big time. However, this
program is his bread and butter... his signature "achievement".
Rush and Sean Hannity failed again. Although he did educate a lot of people by
ranting against this for four years continuously.
Is there anything that this president could do to make the right happy?
Sometimes I don't think there is.
Don't know how this event is not getting more coverage today given the
press (mostly negative in the DN) its been receiving for months. Given the
current, partisan, political state of our country passing and implementing this
law has been an incredible feat by the administration. After 50 votes to
overturn the law and imposing a 28 billion dollar goverment shut down on our
country, the question we should ask of our GOP leaders today is, "how would
you like your crow served"?
I am curious to know who presented the 7.1 million enrollment numbers? Obama?
Sebelius? We all want our country to be successful, prosperous, with
happy people. We all want progress, cooperation, problem solving, and a strong
nation. So if Obamacare is successful, if it really will provide health
insurance to more Americans while lowering the cost of health care (including
insurance premiums) then I will support it.But, I do not trust this
administration. I would like an independent audit of those numbers. How many
enrollees are actually paying? How many are receiving a subsidy, and if so, how
much? How much did the government pay for Obamacare (all costs)? And is that
investment worth what we are getting, and will it be worth it 5 years from
now?How much have premiums really gone up? How much has
health care really gone up or down since implementing Obamacare?Until we have an independent analysis, most Americans don't and
won't trust this administration and Obama. We've already been lied
How many of those 7 million are actual, previously uninsured people and how many
have actually paid? I want to see the real numbers, because it seems quite
conspicuous to me that they even got close to 7 million, which was their stated
goal to achieve economic viability of the program, when at the end of the year
they weren't remotely close.
"The bottom line is this: Under this law, the share of Americans with
insurance is up, and the growth of health care costs is down. And that's
good for our middle class, and that's good for our fiscal future," the
president said.. . . April Fool's?
Brio, "Hitting the 7 million mark for enrollees means very little.
Especially considering there are over 300 million people still not using the
system. That means only 2% of the country will initially be
participating."What in the world does that mean? I presume you
think everyone in the country should be using the federal and state exchanges.
That's not even close to the truth. Probably well over 85% of the country
will continue with their employer provided health care and will have no need for
the exchanges. Also according to a first analysis of these numbers
the mix is doing fine. Plenty of healthy people to offset the sick. BTW they
don't have to be young just healthy, and the group who was only buying
catastrophic insurance previous to the law will probably fill the bill as their
It seems interesting to me that as millions of recalls are issued by GM, that we
are celebrating the ACA's signing up of only 2% of our population under
threat of law today. The government involvement in the restructuring of General
Motors has given us a terrible result. The government involvement in our health
care can only do the same. The future will tell, but I believe will simply
mirror the past record of the government providing things that take longer,
require more paper work, cost more and satisfy less.
We are a uniquely undeserving people in America. We have had more prosperity for
more people than the world has ever known, yet still manage to maintain the
capacity to be unhappy about our fellow citizens gaining access to our health
care system. Congratulations, right-wingers. You still have the losing argument
but have succeeded at making this victory somewhat bitter.
Today is a fitting day for the POTUS and VPOTUS to stand before the American
people and make this announcement. April 1st is such a versatile traditional
Nice move by the way DN burying this monumental story in the back of the paper.
Hate to tell you but Obama has beaten you all again. And
Chancey just what do you have against 7 million people either getting health
care for the first time or getting affordable insurance that actually has
coverage they can use and count on? Explain to those people why America is the
"last" civilized country to provide a system where all of it's
citizens can participate in the health care system on an equal footing and you
Hey One Vote – “Rush and Sean Hannity failed again.” That
depends on how you look at it. Their main goal was to earn millions for
themselves by rousing Right Wing rabble. They did that. They are doing that. And
they will continue to do that. For exploiters like Limbaugh, Hannity,
and others, America’s pain is their gain. They’re having a ball, and
they’ll still make millions off of foolish Right Wingers, while they
promote the goals of would-be plutocrats, like the Koch brothers, by encouraging
people to sacrifice like peons so the wealthiest get richer at the expense of
everyone else.‘As messy as it's been sometimes, as
contentious as it's been sometimes, it's progress,’ Obama
said.”Yep. But progress is what Right Wingers absolutely
despise, because progress takes power from plutocrats and redistributes it to
benefit America. To brainwashed poor and middle class Right Wingers, this
tremendously beneficial law is an affront that must be eliminated.A
large segment of American society will not be happy until all hope of securing
the Blessings of Liberty to themselves and their Posterity is completely
David - "We've already been lied to."Yes, and nobody
lies more than the Right Wing liars who make up huge lies about Obama's
Unfortunately, no matter how many people sign up for Obamacare, it will still
fail. Every single citizen could be signed up and it will fail. Because doctors
won't be able to afford to accept patients under the reduced payment plans.
Then doctors will be made out to be evil and uncaring for not wanting to be
paid. Then doctors will be made to be government employees. Then the quality of
health care will plummet.
Quite the photo isn't it. Warms the heart to see Joe and Barack telling it
like it is. I have one phrase "if you like your insurance you can keep your
insurance ...period". So much for creditbility. Open the flood gates of
propoganda for the waiting throngs of the cluess and ignorant. What a country.
Fitting that Obama chose April Fools Day to make he his tragic speech touting
his signature law that he has lied about for four years and had to rewrite
dozens of times because they had to pass it before they could read it. Feel
sorry for those who have to defend this guy.....November, we can put him out of
The real winners: all the shareholders of the (very lucrative) insurance
companies. I wish I was selling a product that everybody was forced by law to
buy...How do people NOT see that it is because of health insurance
that everything is MORE expensive? It adds overhead costs, it prevents people
from knowing how much procedures will cost until AFTER they have been done, and
it encourages people to get as many procedures done as their health insurance
will cover (even though it means that everyone's premiums go up the next
year in anticipation of additional reckless spending). Ben
Carson's idea to distribute Medicaid money directly into HSA's and let
people pay out-of-pocket for healthcare would do wonders for our current system.
Everyone has already had health care coverage via Medicaid, Medicare, free
emergency room service, welfare, etc. Now, we have just created more
bureaucratic red tape and panels to decide if the average law aiding citizen can
now be told that he/she will have to wait on that cancer diagnosis from a
government official before he/she can move forward with getting help.
Socialized medicine, a dream come true for those who resent life and want to
make it as miserable as possible for those who do! Misery loves company as they
say! Here is just one more proof that it is true!
Gary O1. You can keep your plan! 2. Not even a
smidgen!3. It was a video! Now tell me one lie that the
right wingers have said about Obama? ONE?Still waiting?
Just wait until the suckers who bought Obamacare policies find out that they
cannot use the doctors and hospitals they want to use, and that they will face
long waiting lines due to the declining number of doctors who will accept
Medicaid, Medicare, or Obamacare patients. To the gullible "low
information voters" the (erroneous) assumption that "free health
care" will make life better for them was certainly helpful winning votes to
re-elect Obama, but he cannot keep fooling all the people all the time. Besides, Obama's record of grand pronouncements are almost always
followed very quickly by actions that prove that he was either misinformed or
deliberately misleading people when he spoke. "If you like your
doctor..." is just one of a great many examples. We are worse off
today than when Obamacare was passed, and in another year will be much worse
off, besides being deeper and deeper in unsustainable debt.
"Now tell me one lie that the right wingers have said about Obama?
ONE?"That Obama is not an American.
Smoke in mirrors.
The ACA is a gift to insurance companies. There will be fewer people going to
see health practitioners for things other than the most serious conditions.
Most of these policies have a $6,000 deductible. Though people will be paying
for insurance policies, most of their health care expenses will be paid out of
their own pocket. Having health insurance does not equate to health care.I can't believe how corrupt our government has become.
Laughter is the best medicine. Thank you Obi-Jon.I hope that the
ACA has good eye care coverage. A lot of people will need new prescriptions for
their rose colored glasses.
Gary OLet's not sound like children on a playground chanting
"You lied!" "You lied first!". Let's just hold our
I still don't get it. If there were 30 to 40 some million uninsured who
were the target of this plan, then why is 7 million supposed to be such a
victory? Talk about low rememberance voters. And of course those "sign
ups" will not be worth much if they don't pay, or continue to pay every
month the premiums. And since young peoople are the crux of this, these sign
ups had better be them, not seniors. So far, we really have nothing here to
shout about. And we have many folks who have either lost their original plan or
are now paying more for less coverage and different doctors. Plus, if ACA
really continues and becomes a permanent law of the land, as opposed to a
"make up rules as we go", then many in the medical community will not
practice anymore, not take ACA as payment, and many who would otherwise become
doctors will opt out and go into an different profession. Not much up side to
"The Real Winners?" Well, Stop the Nonsense, "The Real
Winners," are the American people. There are MORE insurance
companies now, directly as a result of the ACA.More insurance
companies = More competitionMore competition = Lower rates, higher
quality services, and more choicesLower prices, higher quality, and
more choices = A Big WIN for AmericansAnd it all comes from our
government offering good governance by promoting FREE ENTERPRISE in a way that
promotes the general Welfare, and secures the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves
and our Posterity.See how that works?Thank goodness for
the foresight, the wisdom, the patriotism, and the can-do spirit of Obama and
the Democrats. When you compare those Democratic virtues to the
Republicans worship of a stagnant status quo and entrenched money, you've
got to wonder . . . WHY would anyone EVER vote Republican? It's
no wonder that every face on Mount Rushmore belongs to a President who was a
LIBERAL in his day.
Senator tom Coburn makes a point that only the left could twist into a positive.
“You had six million who lost their insurance, how many net new people got
covered? How many who lost their insurance don’t have insurance
today?” Coburn asked. “And is it affordable? … The ones that
lost their insurance now have [Obamacare], and we don’t know what that
number is. I guarantee you three-quarters of them are paying a significantly
higher cost, have a higher co-pay and a higher deductible.”Coburn also sounded the alarm on the law’s reported failure to cover
cancer centers.“Nineteen of the cancer centers in this
country, only five are covered under Obamacare,” he said in an interview
with the Washington Examiner.“You know, it’s a market,
and what they’ve done is they’ve priced it where these cancer
centers, a lot of them, aren’t going to participate because they
don’t get paid to cover the costs,” he said.
Obama celebration means another tax paid vacation.
ACA supporters just allowed the Rich (Democratic and Republican members) to
throw a bone at the poor so they can add to their wealth! Sad indeed! Now the
poor can "get" health care that rivals what amounts to a check up,
authorized by a bureaucrat, amended by a secretary, reviewed by a committee
before going to a doctor that was certified in Havanna. Of course, I
didn't mention he will need to come back in 90 days, all the while the
wealthy "do-gooder" Democrats and patronizing Republicans can talk about
how they have reached consensus, while not even talking about the implosion of a
debt ridden society! Wow, now that is real progress! Come on American
Citizens, you can actually practice charity without exposing your hypocrisy
through the ACA.
Its good news for the President (who apparently cant count) when you consider
that 5 million lost their healthcare when the ACA went into effect, so 7 million
minus 5 million is, well 2 million. Also the ACA plan I have is catastrophic
(too expensive to use and everything is out of pocket until I hit the $6,000
deductible) and cost taxpayers $856 per month since my income adjustment pays
the monthly premiums for me.So hey American taxpayers, thanks for
Dr. Thom - Your math is off. The 5 million people who had their insurance
modified to make it conform to ObamaCare standards are not included in the 7.1
