    Most bishops who actively covered up for those accused of abuse have retired if not died. The heart of the abuse crisis was the 1970s. Many of the accused were not accused until after their death.

    The claim that the "U.S. stacandal erupted in Boston in 2002" is just plain false. There were lots of prosecutions and suits long before that. There were lots of incidents that came into the public eye. Not quite on the 2002 and beyond level, but 2002 was not the start of anything.

    Forming a committee is often used to create the perception of taking action without actually doing so. Given the church's record so far, I see no reason to believe to otherwise in this instance.
