This is what happens when school districts substitute "zero-tolerance"
policies for wisdom. What did these 4-5 year old boys do to merit suspension?
Try to kiss a little girl? That's sexual harrasment, you're outta
here. Point their fingers and say "bang, bang, your dead!"?
That's gun violence, you're outta here.
I pity the pre-school adminstrator who has to face such a decision. If a little
kid is completely out of control day after day, what else can the school do?Seeking parental involvement is the reasonable course, but if parents
will not or cannot parent and impart some good manners to their children,
that's not a viable option either.I
I think what this article is lacking is a clear understanding of the culture
behind the child being suspended. Did they grow up in a single parent home? Was
violence a regular part of their life? What is discipline like at home versus at
the school level? Looking into the socio-economic situation of these children
would open our eyes to the truth behind the statistics. Maybe instead of
minority vs. white, like everything is made out to be, it should look at the
basis of the claim; maybe the children that are being suspended are coming from
single parent homes? Or lower socio-economic standards? We need to move beyond
black and white in the 21st century and look at the real problems.
The cause is not revealed in this article. The problems black America has faced
since the 1950's is the welfare mentality. Prior to that time it is
certainly true racism was a big factor in black unemployment. However there were
few divorces, few single parent homes, in fact perhaps less than white homes.
The more welfare the more murders, prisoners, abortions, etc. Of course our
current administration has no interest in balancing the budget or slowing
spending, reducing red tap, lowering taxes, etc. to get the economy rolling.
Instead it is redistribution of wealth that is important. It doesn't work.
The attempt to focus on race leads to seeing racial disparities when others
exist. As a re-school teacher, where 100% of my students are
African-American, I will say that there is a clear link between actions of
students ad attitudes of parents. Especialy among boys, those with fathers
absent of fathers who are only marginally present have much higher levels of
behavioral problems. On the other hand, as a child growing up, I was
physically attacked on the way home fro the bus by a metal pipe wielding
Chaldean thug, who would be classed as white by this report. He had reviously
harassed me in school, and they did nothing of effect. It was only when my mom
calle the police that I no longer faced harrassment. The people who
are going t suffer the most from less discipline of thugs will be
African-Ameican males who want to learn, who will be stuck in schools dominated
by thugs who should have been sent to juvenial hall.
Desire believe and expatiation makes the magic happen. We show them what to
expect pass them along
Blacks have a high rate of "out of wedlock" births. This
leads to a greater number of troubled students.
