I think the point of Ban Bossy is that the word is never used to describe males.
It is only used to describe females and is considered a negative when the exact
same behavior is seen as a positive in men.
Isn't this boss at Facebook being just a bit bossy about language and what
she is willing to allow us to think and say? I suspect that is how she got into
that position. If you want your leadership to be respected, earn it
by showing respect. Then you won't need to be bossy to lead.I
have heard it said that the difference between a sheep herder and a shepherd is
that a sheep herder stands behind the flock and drives them forward with fear. A
shepherd walks in front of the flock and they follow along out of trust and
Since the 1960's women have wanted to be the boss, so now you are all going
to have to own it. And by the way we as men would probably love you women a
whole lot more if you were not so Bossy!
By the way, it's being bossy when you tell us you don't want to be
Ban...censor...When these words are used to promote a better society, the
penny is released in that really cool looking, but unfortunate downward spiral.
My five-year-old daughter is a natural leader. She's always planning these
imaginative games and easily finds a group of kids who are thrilled to be part
of the game. My daughter doesn't exclude or command, she invites. She is
NOT bossy. Bossy little girls are often brats or bullies. I think it
is okay to call out bossy behavior as negative behavior. Teach the bossy girls
how to be inclusive, kind leaders instead. Don't try to tell me that bossy
girls are leaders because a lot of times they are not.
If she'll spend just as much time banning terms I don't like against
men, then I'll give her some credit. The liberal world of
political correctness is already a ridiculous extreme in bossy-ness. If you
don't like the label, quit acting that way. Trying to BAN what you
consider a non-politically-correct phrase is exactly one thing... being
bossy.People think there are more important issues than defending
the family. I hear the complaint all the time. So is this one of those
'more important issues'?
Sheyrl Sandberg is a big Hillary supporter, This is merely the fist step in
setting up the liberal McCarthyism of labeling anyone who questions Hillary as
being a sexist (just as anyone questioning Obama is labeled a racist by the
intolerant left)Where was the liberal feminist outrage when Palin
was called far worse?Where was the word censors when the Obama campaign
was calling Romney a felon or traitor or worse? How many men would ne
viewed as competent if they made victimhood the central point of their power?Passive/aggression is both bossy and hypocritical.
I am puzzled by all these comments that find "bossy" to be sexist and
claim that it is ONLY used in relation to girls and NEVER applied to boys. I
don't know where these people live or grew up, but where I live and where I
grew up, "bossy" did and does describe behavior, regardless of gender.
I hear little boys tell other little boys to "stop being so bossy!" The
word is being hijacked and given a negative, sexist conotation in order to
create yet another "progressive" rallying point. "Gay" was
hijacked, apparently because "homosexual" was too descriptive?
"Marriage" is being hijacked and given a new definition.
"Bossy" is being hijacked and made a gender specific behavior term.
WORDS HAVE MEANING. But when you change the meaning, the words lose their
i had a supervisor that was raised in Girl scout and is now a girl scout leader.
She was hands down the worst supervisor i have ever had and "led"
through intimidation and force. We lost a lot of great staff, and had really
high turnover. In 3 years she had destroyed all the work that our manager had
done building a great department and was fired. If this is the kind of leader
that the girl scouts are turning out, they need to take a hard look at more than
vocabulary. They need to re-evaluate what leadership means and revamp their
I don't think the campaign is trying to say it's okay to be bossy.
They are just trying to get rid of a hurtful word that is always targeted at one
group of people--girls. Being called bossy doesn't improve
anyone's quality of life. It only discourages girls by making them feel
like they can't be leaders or else they are labeled "bossy."
It's not about being politically correct, it's about realizing that
our words matter and send messages to our kids.
And the think police are out in force. Back to 1984. Should we stop using
words like tyrant, dictator, revengeful, because they make people not want to be
one or are used to be critical of one who is. Like in many countries of the
world. You know if we stop using gender words, then people will stop
identifying as a gender. It will no longer cause anyone to question their
gender. SSM will no longer exist, same sex attraction will no longer exist.
Gender identification is so disruptive in society. What will be the
next word to remove?Bossy, I think it covers both Obama and Hillary.
See it is not gender specific.
@Jefferson - Amen! I asked my young grandson just yesterday to stop being so
bossy. Why? Because he was being BOSSY, not because he was trying to be a
leader. Who was the first insecure, narcissistic feminist to actually believe
this was a gender-specific term? So unbelievably ridiculous. If someone is
bossy - male or female - and he or she doesn't want to be called bossy,
then STOP BEING BOSSY! Bossiness is not a leadership trait, and I
highly doubt very many people use the terms interchangeably.
@TexasmomoYou are exactly right. They are not excusing bossy
behavior, just the word that is used to describe it. I feel that it is
unfortunate if any young girl shows any assertive behavior, it is unfairly
correlated with the term "bossy".What percentage of adults
use this term? I don't remember the last time I've heard an adult use
"bossy" when there is conveniently another 5 letter word most commonly
used. This campaign is a great example of political idealists
side-stepping family responsibility to teach children self-censorship. Children
evidently cannot learn right from wrong unless there is a prohibiting law with
punishable consequences...or so the campaign promoters infer.
