All they are doing is adding to the cost of our food.Get the gov't out of
every choice we make and let the people take responsibility for their own
choices.I grew up making my own choices without any special labels as well as
thousand of others. It seems there is a continual reach of the gov't into
our lives on things they don't know that much about. They keep changing
their mind about what is god for you and what is not. Moderation is the key ---
you eat too much of anything it will not be good for you.
A healthy lifestyle is also very important
The Nanny State attacks. Do many people even read the labels? Can they even
We have a right to know what we eat. I want my food to be labeled properly and
without marketing gimmicks and gotchas like changing the serving size to make
the calorie count look better. I'd like to see every food label require a
'per serving' column and a 'per container' column. I really
appreciate the change to show added sugars vs natural occurring sugars. The
only thing missing from this proposal is labeling to require disclosure of GMOs.
Here is the sad thing about this idea. It doesn't work. If you look at
the history of obesity, and especially teen obesity rates, we didn't have a
problem with it until the government started to tell us what was healthy and
what wasn't.We have had the government telling us what is good
and what is bad, so that we didn't have to make those decisions ourselves,
for over 40 years. We have had about 40 years of increasing obesity rates.
Before that people were smart enough to figure out that if they ate a lot of
junk they would get fat.How about we just make sure that the
companies put a lable telling us what is in the package, and let us decide if we
want to eat that box of Ding Dongs by ourselves or not.
re: RedShirtI don't disagree. Knowing the content
(Grams of fat, protein, & carbs) is very useful. I figure out the actual
percentage myself and know what to avoid. They need to emphasize
where High Fructose Corn Syrup is on the list of ingredients. Other than the
occasional Coke, I won't consume an item if HFCS is one of the 1st 5
