Don't women know there place in GOP America? In the good old
days, women knew their place in a "traditional marriage" they were a
possession. Good luck, with that message.
We have a low birth rate in this county. Women can't pay $10 a month the
pill. Does the government have to do everything? I am ok with birth control it
is far better than abortion. This country is deteriorating under Democratic
So, what's the problem? And, besides, "What difference, at this point,
does it make"? How about a "willful suspension of disbelief", here?
Keep waiting for that "new day" the Republicans were heading towards.Sounds like the same old, same old.Keep hearing about another political
party being formed sometime soon.
What in Tucket?Provo, UT"We have a low birth rate in this
county. Women can't pay $10 a month the pill. Does the government have to
do everything? I am ok with birth control it is far better than abortion. This
country is deteriorating under Democratic rule"---SORRY, but you
demonstrate the abysmal understanding of poor working people which is so common
among DN posters, in my view.In the first place, the issue is
employment discrimination: If Rosa is cleaning floors in a catholic hospital,
she gets no free birth control. Meanwhile, her sister works at another hospital
and gets coverage. In the second place, folks who take entry level
jobs do not necessarily think like prosperous mormons or republicans. They may
may feel guilty when the kids need shoes, and fail to buy contraception.Family planning is necessary for economic growth -- and we all pay the
cost of education, law enforcement, etc, for unwanted children.---
Now Huckabee says we should trust women to control their libido, while many
churches and cultures tell women they cannot refuse their husbands.
On cue, Democrats and the media have jumped all over this. Anyone that has
seen a Democratic political campaign playbook knows that they are supposed to
jump on any comment a Republican makes that is even remotely about women, and
claim that all Republicans want women tied to the stove, barefoot, etc. Then accuse any Republican, including the 6th grade GOP elementary
school club, of fostering the same views.
Who is it that wants taxpayers to pay for EVERYTHING? If you want birth control,
pay for it yourself, problem solved!
Thanks, huckleberry. We knew things really haven't changed, but you've
removed any doubt.
In 2005, while governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee signed a law requiring all
insurance plans to cover contraception, with no exemptions for religious
organizations. So is he going to now campaign against the law he
signed? Or is he just going to hope it goes away?It occurs to me,
as well, that he's insulting 99% of American women who use birth control.
His comment ssets up two categories - those with "self control" and
those who use birth control. I find it problematic that
contraception has become a major political issue. This is a product that has
been almost entirely accepted by our society, used by almost every woman. What
possible reason could there be for it to have become controversial?
David in Centerville"On cue, the Democrats and the media jumped all
over this". Ah, yea, and why not? Just as the GOP and the media jumped all
over BO when he said "you did not build this". That's what happens
with sound bites in American politics. The problem with the GOP's
fortunes is they just provide so many sound bites that are out of touch with
Amercia. They may play well here on the DN and in Utah but that's only 1%
of America. It won't matter who the Democrats nominate if the GOP continues
to be the voice of 30% of America. They're clinging to the past and
nominating ghosts who only continue to haunt their parties chance of sucess to
regain the WH.
Democrats just can't make it in the real world without forcing the rest of
us to pay their way through life, including their birth control!
Mike Huckabee is the gift that keeps on giving to the Democratic Party.
Most of you who have commented on this is so wrong. I for one am not a big fan
of Mike Huckabee but I was watching Megan Kelly on Foxnews and she played the
part of his speech in depth where this comment came out of. It was just a small
portion of his speech and it makes me sick that the mainstream media is so bias
that it makes my stomach sick. He did not just say this what everyone is talking
about the those who watch the mainstream media. He said nothing but wonderful
things about women and how they should be treated and respected. So my
suggestion to those who are bashing this man to look up his speech and listen to
all of it. But yet nobody is talking about Wendy Davis and just what a liar she
is. Someone who leaves her husband the day after he pays off her student loans
and abandons her children because they are in her way. Not good to me. To me she
is the loser as being a mother is truly the greatest blessing anyone could have
on this earth.
The Religious Right and the Tea Party have devastated the Republican Party.
Republican candidates used to get my vote at least 30% of the time, but I
won't take a chance on anyone with an "R" behind his/her name right
now. Even if they are reasonable people, they will have no clout. And the
fascination that some Republicans have with my reproductive system? It's
just downright creepy.
Karen,You may want to reconsider your stand regarding Republicans
and Democrats. The way I see it, the Democratic Party has a fascination with
women's reproductive system. They have fought to legislate tax payer
funding of birth control, abortion, condoms, etc. Republicans are trying to
get the government out of the business of abortion, birth control, etc.
Republicans believe sexual behavior is private. But when I am paying for your
birth control, it is no longer a private endeavor but a public one.
@ DavidRepublicans are trying to get the government out of the
business of abortion? You can't be serious. And if we truly want to
decrease the number of abortions, then I would think it would be in our interest
to promote birth control.
Karen,Republicans are trying to get government out of the business
of paying for abortions & birth control. They need to get out of paying for
Viagra too. Government draws upon our tax dollars to subsidize & pay for
these things. I do not believe abortions, birth control, condoms, & Viagra
are a function of the government.Maybe an argument should be made
that for those Americans that actually pay income tax into the system should
receive those benefits. For the nearly 50% who pay no income tax, &/or
receive cash from the government, they should not be candidates for such
"benefits"? This is not a serious proposal. I only intend
to introduce the inequity to the system & those that pay income tax vs those
that do not.
I think a good argument can be made for the benefits of promoting and
subsidizing birth control for women. As I mention above, fewer pregnancies,
fewer abortions. Also, fewer teen pregnancies and all the economic and social
ills that arise from them; fewer women and their children on welfare, Medicaid,
food stamps, etc. Using your idea of denying benefits to those who don't
contribute, we would then have a fair claim for denial: "We made birth
control available and free; you got pregnant anyway. Here's a list of
adoption agencies. Everything else is on you." Clearly my idea isn't
thoroughly thought out either, but I do believe enabling women to control their
reproductive systems would have great benefits for us all.But I
don't buy that the Religious Right's obsession with abortion all these
years is because they want to save us money. I also don't buy the whole
47% lament unless and until you start including the entitlements we shower on
those at the top of the heap. Absent that, it just comes across as niggardly.
This too will continue to cost conservatives women voters.
Heard him say it live. Loved it then, love it now.Keep on whining
Progressives, Liberals, Takers. Uncle Sugar is reining in the dole. Go get
your own credit card and spend away. Create your own New World and leave mine
alone. You want to drown in debt and have your posterity pay for your
obsessions? Go right ahead.
HV Heretic: How many Dem women know their place in their lock-step party and
would ever dare deviate?Free-thinking not allowed.Honest
intellectuals know there is no 'market for the discussion of free
ideas' within liberal circles, if proposed from a conservative. Only their
ideology or platforms are valid.Huckabee just proved that axiom.
