The assumption that Marijuana is a "gateway drug" is anecdotal at best.
Those who typically abuse drugs might have started with Marijuana, because
it's easy to obtain, there are multiple underlying issues to their
problems. Fact is most people who have used Marijuana don't go on to
harder drugs, sure some do, some start with alcohol abuse first. Again, there
are bigger issues at play here with those with substance abuse problems. I live
in California, and I happen to know about 10 people who use Marijuana (no,
I'm not one of them). Of the 10 all but one uses for medical purposes.
I've never known any of those folks to use harder drugs. The fact is most
of them use Marijuana for a specific purpose. Most of those who I know who use
Marijuana also don't consume alcohol. So not only are they not moving on
to other drugs, they are purposely avoiding other "legal" drugs as well.
Visit Amsterdam, Vancouver, BC, San Francisco and other places where pot is used
recreationally to see the end game. The incidence of DUI has increased in
Washington state and other places because of marijuana. MJ's casual use is
not a benign phenomenon.
@4601I have visited three out of the four places you listed and not so
surprising the streets were not flowing with blood. The sky is not falling we
will be alright.
