"To ask me — a business degree major from Texas Tech University
— to distinguish whether the Earth cooled 4 billion years ago or 4.2
billion years ago for purposes of approving a textbook at 10:15 on a Thursday
night is laughable," Ratliff said.”Oh it’s worse
than that – it is asking people (thankfully it would appear only a
minority of the Texas Board), who believe there is more factual information
about the natural world in a Bronze Age book written by shepherds, to pass
judgment on the validity of modern science. And while it is indeed
laughable, it gets less so the more people like this ascend to positions of
power that give their views the stamp of authority. What next –
allow 3rd graders to approve college math textbooks?
6,000 years is 6,000It says so in the Bible.and I've met
PLENTY of good Latter-Day Saints who buy this line as well.As for
Evolution, Even BYU has fallen into line with the indisputable Scientific
evidence. While the nay sayers whine about BYU caving to "liberal
acedemia" arm twisting. When will people just accept that Science
tells us HOW God does things, The Scriptures tell us WHY he does things.
"When will people just accept that Science tells us HOW God does things, The
Scriptures tell us WHY he does things."Science tells us which of
our theories, hypotheses, and explanations fail to explain the facts, data, and
observations. And science has repeatedly told us that the religious and
scriptural theories, hypotheses, and explanations completely fail. Most notably,
science tells us that there is no evidence for the existence of any god, and
that ideas that all of "creation" testifies of a god are thoroughgoing
Why can't we just accept church-and-science-separate, so religious people
can focus on religious issues, and stop judging sciences?
A ScientistProvo, UT========= Thanks for
validating Science explaining the HOW things were creating, butScience can't - and doesn't even try to provide the answer as to
WHY.That's what religion does.If you don't care
about the why's, then of course you don't feel a need to believe
in a God.Many of us do.I accept Science on par with
Religion, and visa-versa.but only within the bounds they are set.I don't accept the Bible proving the answers to Science, anymore
than I accept Science proving the answers to Morality, Love, Brotherly kindness,
compassion and Humanitarianism. One explains how, the other
America. Made the laughing stock of the scientific community. By people who refuse to acknowledge facts.
LDS Liberal,"Thanks for validating Science explaining the HOW
things were creating (sic)..."Our theories, hypotheses, and
explanations about the universe can be about WHAT, HOW, WHY, WHEN, WHERE,
etc.Science does not care to differentiate between these types of
questions. Science only puts these questions to the test. Moreover,
as a believer, you must ultimately acknowledge that there is no doctrinal
(scriptural or other) basis for your arbitrary distinction between science
owning the domain of "how" and religion owning the domain of
"why" - certainly, that distinction falls completely apart when you
recognize that religion fails miserably to tell the "why" of countless
phenomena, and the Holy Scriptures are filled with futile and erroneous attempts
to explain "how" things were done.
fossils prove one the other is all faith base. but saying that i think the
universe goes on for ever and big bang cant prove it does not do so. you would
have to be able to see the end of it where it stops. if it does go on forever,
isnt almost all possible.
The bible does NOT say the earth is 6000 thousand years old.It says,
using the correct interpretation, the earth was ORAGANIZED 6000 years ago.The current state of earth started approximately 6000 years agoand the age earth would be that plus the time it took to organized,
plus the time Adam was in the garden of Eden.It is approximately
6000 years since the expulsion from the garden of Eden. There is
nothing scientifically incorrect with the bible when it is understood
correctly.Evolution should NOT be taught simply because it is not
scientific, but composed of entirely of guesses, assumptions, suppositions,
made up relationships, made up trees and branches, only suggestions of how
things could have happened (which interestingly enough also support intelligent
design), and whatever else gives the perception of it working.
@the truth please tell us you are being sarcastic when you claim
that the science and observable facts that supports evolution is really nothing
more guesses, assumptions, suppositions, made up relationships, made up trees
and branches, only suggestions of how things could have happened? you do know
your lack of understanding of the facts does not make them go away right?
@the truth?most major religions do not even dispute the scientific
facts supporting evolution including the LDS and Catholic churches, so we are
suppose to ignore the seine and these leaders of hess churches and accept your
denial of the facts?
@spring street@Kalindra'Dispute' is the wrong and
misleading word. Mot addressing it, is NOT the same as supporting
it. And actually many do dispute it. How and when the earth was
organized is immaterial to your salvation, and salvation is what religion cares
the most about.Still...man did not evolve nor any modern creature.
The bible and other scripture is quite clear on it, and "science" has
only conjecture and clever story telling.Your "observable
facts" only indicate that ancient creatures once existed in a previous state
of earth, the rest is the imaginations and inventions of men.
@thetruth. Please understand that you and other new earth creationists/biblical
literalists may be damaging the ability of others to accept Jesus, as you may
create a false dichotomy that requires the faithful to reject a plethora of
thoroughly articulated facts and findings that support natural selection and
evolution. You may be doing the opposite of what you intend to do (bring others
to God).@AScientist. I think you need to accept that you, as a
materialist, are pushing strongly against those who are coming from an angle
that rejects materialism. They may claim experiences that denote a knowledge of
God. All observable, empirically-supported evidence that are foundational to
your belief will not prove or convince them they are wrong. It might be good to
accept that not all answers are out there.
If a car can evolve from a boulder, than the complexities of living things
happen by chance. Now that children have been forced, and mostly
removed from their homes,--liberal leaders will brainwash our children with this
kind of rubbish. There is a greater chance of my watch evolving from
a stone, than a human body forming by chance.

Science.I support 100% current Scienific fact and theory. From
Big Bang, paralell/bubble universers -- right down to evolution being a FACT....and it doesn't conflict with my religous beliefs in the least. The truth is, Science re-affirms and stregthens MY beliefs. No Scientist - even you - seeks to answer they WHYs.Carl Sagan
summed it up best in his book (and movie) - Contact. If there
isn't anything more to the Universe than what we as human on earth
experience, then --The Universe is pretty much a big waste of
space. If you really are a - Scientist -- Keep up the Good
work! I look forward with great anticipation the new and exciting
Scientific discoveries yet to be made known. It builds MY testimony,
and doesn't tear it down or shake it in the least.
@worf – “If a car can evolve from a boulder, than the complexities
of living things happen by chance.”I wasn’t aware that
either a car or a boulder contained proteins or amino acids let alone DNA.And we did not evolve by chance which is why analogies like yours and
tornados in a junk yard creating a 747 are misguided and not analogous at all.
It is true that mutations happen randomly – and this can be
observed in real time today so it is undisputable – but evolution happens
because certain (very few actually) random mutations are naturally selected
(i.e., passed on to offspring) because they offer some benefit to survival
greater than what existed before. @ LDS Liberal – “If
there isn't anything more to the Universe than what we as human on earth
experience, then -- The Universe is pretty much a big waste of space.”I think what Sagan actually said was if there is no other life in the
Universe then it is a big waste of space.
LDS Liberal: "I am a college educated Mechanical Engineer.I am also
an varocious lifelong student of Science.I support 100% current
Scienific fact and theory. From Big Bang, paralell/bubble universers --

there for a moment. I thought we had another data point for the Salem
Hypothesis at first. Thanks for salvaging it in the second paragraph.
You know, scientific theory is based on faith. Faith that the current
knowledge of science is accurate. We have seen science need to change with new
information or discovery. Sometimes I think human beings are a little arrogant
at what they think they know about everything scientific. I do find it
interesting that some current theorical physicists are now engaged in trying to
explain what happened before the big bang. And of course they are therefore
trying to explain how something (matter) can come from nothing(empty space).
Good luck. If you do discover how that happened, you can thank God for it.
