It turns out most of the persons profiled in the media because of health care
policy cancellations will actually get better poiicies under the Affordable Care
Act. They had so-called mini-meds that offered few benefits and high
deductibles. The most vocal of them had a policy that did not cover
hospitalization. The ACA requires 10 areas, including preventive care and
hospitalization, be covered. Costs must be limited to less than $6,500 annually
for everyone. These folks either qualify for Medicaid (no premiums) or will get
subsidies to buy private insurance that is better than what they had before.
Interloper: The government needs to force me to buy the policy they think is
best for me? And at a higher cost? Telling people it is ok because we are
giving you a better product than you had is just smoke and mirrors. The promise
was simple, "if you like your plan you can keep it."Are there
upsides to ACA? Of course. Millions of people who chose to pocket their wealth
and risk medical insurance now get to keep their money and not pay for
insurance. Great deal. If I could work it out, I would sign up for it. In
fact, I'm trying to negotiate with my employer to do just that. Pay me
what you have been paying for my plan and allow me to get free insurance from
the government. What a great deal!
To "Interloper" so then you admit that we were sold a lie. Obama said
that if you like your insurance that you would be able to keep it. If those
people with the mini-med plans liked them, then why are those plans going away?
What do you say to the people that don't qualify for the subsidies and are
now paying more for insurance? The average rate increase has been 73% in 45 of
the 50 states.
If you like your lies, you can keep telling your lies. Period!
The Economist referred to Sec. Sebelius as "baffling ineptitude." In
2009 Mr. Obama promised Americans that if they liked their insurance and their
doctor, you could keep it PERIOD. Now the promise is made with an ASTERISK.
It's called bait and switch.
Man the old Platters song really has meaning now. You remember the great
