With all the advancement and research going on at the U of U is it any wonder
that the Presidents of the PAC 12 schools including Cal, the number one public
university in the nation and Stanford, one of the greatest private universities
in the world wanted to associate with the U of U by inviting the U into their
conference. I am very proud of the State's flag ship university. There
will no doubt be another Nobel Prize winner coming out of this research.
I'm glad we are making progress in fighting cancer. I remember when a
diagnosis of Cancer used to be a death sentence. Now most of the time the
diagnosis is the start of a huge battle... but it's one you can win. Not
one we always win... but one that more often than before there is a chance to
win, and a lot of that is due to the research being done at places like the
Huntsman Cancer Institute. So support them every chance you get.
I wonder if a fraction of the amount of money that has been spent on the
Huntsman Cancer Research Center were spent teaching people to make use of the
spice tumeric .. if even more good would be done.In India people get
less cancer than here and tumeric is said to be the reason why.
This is certainly a great thing. No doubt new cancer treatment methods will
come from this. Just as important is developing an understanding the etiology
of cancer. The Environmental Public Health Tracking Project was created to do
this sort of thing - match public health outcomes with environmental stressors -
but this has a long, long way to go. We have rushed headlong into new
technologies without understanding their side-effects. Understanding the causes
of cancer is as important as new treatments.
