Now is not the time to talk about gun control, we shall be told again. Apparently the interstitial time between school shootings isn't, either.

Where did this kid get the gun? It seems like that's a great question that needs answered.
And how did this child spend his idle time? What violence was he exposed to in video games and movies? What mental health issues were present? Was he bullied by kids, teachers, or parents? Was there child abuse?

Registering my neighbor's Mom's gun will not stop these senseless killings. And a background check on her won't either. It's just like swimming pools. A background check on pool owners won't stop kids from drowning nor will registering pools accomplish that. Adults are too often careless with their guns and their pools and their cars and their drugs and their booze and many other things. A background check or registration of parents won't solve issues created by dumb parents. Attack the problem, please. Gun control seems to be the only solution some can come up with, but there just isn't any evidence it will prevent any killings.

Re: "Now is not the time to talk about gun control . . . ."

Now is the perfect time. It makes me want to howl every time I hear about a willing, caring, courageous American giving his/her life to save others, but being denied by foolish, feckless politics, the tools necessary to do so.

We owe them -- and our kids -- so much more!

Hutterite, maybe it isn't the time to talk gun control, but it is very much the time to talk gun owner responsibility, which is the key problem in the country. how did a 12 year old get ahold of the family weapon? Those parents need to be questioned and jailed long enough to ponder what it means to be a responsible gun owner.
