I'm serious...can someone, anyone, Democrat, Republican, Independent,
whatever, when does it stop. 16 trillion raised to 17 trillion, then in 6
months they need it to 18 trillion, then 19 trillion then 25 trillion, 50
trillion. They scare us over and over again about default, but when and where
does it stop. Can anyone explain it to me?
The charade goes on and the Democratic/Republican man behind the curtain,
abetted by a inert media, will soon have everything all fixed with nothing
anybody has to worry about. Just keep on spending America. Money does grow on
trees and tomorrow we can all skip down the yellow brick road singing happy
songs. Wait a minute. That was a movie! But, hey, who cares about the real
world when you can live in an imaginary one?
@JNARepublican Anointed One/POTUS Ronald Reagan raised taxes 11
times and tripled the deficit...Republican Anointed One/POTUS Ronald
Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times.Today's politicos are
simply following the lead of the Republican Anointed One...
Why is the Republican House 'countering' anything? Why are
they not NEGOTIATING with the Senate plan? Bush doubled the debt. Reagan tripled the national debt. You cannot say either
about Obama, in his 2nd term now. End the theatrics. If I wanted
lower debt, Historically I would vote Democrat.
@PaganLaughable!!! You try and compare the two??? Obama has raised
the debt from 9 trillion to 17 trillion. That's not quite double, but
that's 8 trillion.... If I owe 2,000 and I borrow 4,000 I triple my debt.
You owe 200,000 and borrow 150,000 and then you make the argument that you are
more fiscally conservative than I am. LOL@TUGA Reagan was busy
rescuing our economy from the Carter years, and dealing with a heavily
Dimocratic congress. Oh yea! He had to defeat communism too by getting our
military up to snuff after you people decimated it.
To "Pagan" how do you expect them to negociate with people that do not
want to negociate?About Obama we can say that under his leadership
we have added $6.1 Trillion to the debt, which is mroe than Bush or Reagan. We are now supplying arms to Al Qaeda and other therrorist
organizations. We have entered multiple armed conflicts with nations
that have done nothing to us.Obama is the most polarizing President
in the last 50 years, he is a divider not a uniter.Obama has
expanded warrantless survelance to include indefinate detention of US
citizens.Since 1981, Republicans have allowed the debt to increase
the least. When they controlled congress they averaged $300 billion/yr. During
that same time when Democrats have controlled Congress it has increased by $732
billion/yr. If you want to go by GDP, it is worse. Democrats have pushed the
debt up by 47%, while under Republicans it has been reduced by 7%. (This is
according to data gathered from the GAO)Basically, Obama is worse
than any of the Republican Presidents that you hate.
Funny how we continue to throw rocks at each other on this message board based
strictly on political party. No one willing to listen to ANY view from across
the aisle. "I know you are but what am I?" Not at all different from our
congressional "representatives".No matter whether
you're Democrat or Republican, this divide has crippled the concept of
communication, compromise and any consideration for the welfare of the American
people. It's all about whether one or the other will get elected next time
Ned, the Republican House has repeatedly offered compromise solutions, but every
single time Harry Reid and Obama have rejected them, insisting on 100% of what
they want, and not willing to compromise on anything. The
Democrat's perverse definition of "compromise" is to delay
everything and reject everything and then at the last minute demand that the
Republicans surrender completely.Well, if that is their expectation,
then I say just "Shut 'er down." Our country's
economic foundation is being systematically destroyed, we are accumulating
mountains of debt that simply cannot and will not ever be repaid, and Weimar
Republic rates of inflation must therefore inevitably be around the corner. The only solution is to cut spending and live within our means, but as
long as the Democrats refuse to move at all in that direction our doom is
certain. It will begin next week with default, or in a year or two, it makes no
difference unless Democrats are willing to make real compromises. And, yes, the
big spending Republicans share some of the blame, mostly because they refused to
stand up and reject spending and debt increases when the problem was much less
serious."Free stuff today" wins!
@NedGrimley"No one willing to listen to ANY view from across the
aisle."That's not true. It's just that a lot of sane
Republicans (Huntsman, Bennett, Castle) don't hold office anymore."No matter whether you're Democrat or Republican, this divide has
crippled the concept of communication, compromise and any consideration for the
welfare of the American people. "Making sure the House
doesn't succeed in destroying the economy through debt default is important
for the welfare of the American people.
first of all the reason they have not done anything is over the health care act.
it has been passed into law and 3 parts of the govenment have approved it. now
this congress is obstucting law and this country. this is treason. congress
should arrested and put in jail.they swore an oath. they are not
fullfilling it. in private job market they would be fired.if they dont
like the law they can win the senate and the president, and change it that is
way things are supposed to work.
"About Obama we can say that under his leadership we have added $6.1
Trillion to the debt, which is mroe than Bush or Reagan."And how
much of that increase result not from new spending, but from CONTINUING spending
requirements set up by the Administrations of Bush, Bush, Reagan et al.NEW spending under Obama is at record lows.Turn off the hate radio
and stop drinking Glenn's Kool Aid.
Ltrain said "@TUGA Reagan was busy rescuing our economy from the Carter
years, and dealing with a heavily Dimocratic congress. Oh yea! He had to defeat
communism too by getting our military up to snuff after you people decimated
it."How Ironic that Obama is rescuing us from the Bush years and
dealing with teahaudist/republican minority that is holding the nation hostage,
Oh yeah Obama had to pay for bush starting 2 wars and keeping them off the
books, and leaving Obama to clean up Osama, Iraq & Afganistan the budget
surplus after the republicans decimated it and left us in a recession.
To "one old man" none of that is from continued spending. For example,
SNAP under Bush cost tax payers $38 billion/yr. Under Obama that same program
now costs $78 billion/yr. Obama added $40 billion/yr more to a program that is
already filled with lots of fraud and abuse. That is new spending because we
have not doubled the number of poor people. We can also go into the
$1.2 Trillion of new spending that Obama added in what he called a
"stimulus".If it ws continued spending, then I would expect
the deficits to be about the same as they were under Bush. You can't tell
me that going from a $400 billion deficit to a $1.2 Trillion deficit is
As long as people keep arguing and bickering about who is to blame in this
country, like right here on the Deseret News forum, the government will continue
to do the same and worse. You can't blame my guy! Your
guy's to blame! Blaming sure is easier than taking
"They scare us over and over again about default, but when and where does it
stop. Can anyone explain it to me?"Where does it stop? When GOP presidential candidates are no longer afraid to accept a $10 in
spending cuts for $1 in revenue increases. When? When we get some
sanity in our government.
"The latest proposal from House Republicans does just that in a partisan
attempt to appease a small group of tea party Republicans who forced the
government shutdown in the first place," said White House spokeswoman Amy
Brundage.”Lie. The dems used the tea party’s attempt to
defund obamacare as an excuse to shut down the government for pure political
gain. The GOP has voted time and again to open the government, the dems have
voted to shut it down.Rather than repeal the tax on medical devices,
they should repeal the tax on real estate transactions – that tax has a
suppressive effect on the still weak housing market. No need to
default on the debt, there is more than enough revenue to service the debt.Pagan,BO raised the debt MORE in 40 months than bush did in 96,
and you want to compare? Dems raise debt MORE than repubs. Stubborn facts you
ignorelket, there was no health care act, just an
insurance/massive tax and spend act.
Ask Jason he seems to know...Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), presiding over
the chamber, told Van Hollen that the rule he was asking to use had been
"altered" and he did not have the privilege of bringing that vote to the
floor. In the ensuing back and forth, Chaffetz said the recently passed House
Resolution 368 trumped the standing rules. Where any member of the House
previously could have brought the clean resolution to the floor under House Rule
22, House Resolution 368 -- passed on the eve of the shutdown -- gave that right
exclusively to the House majority leader, Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia."The Rules Committee, under the rules of the House, changed the standing
rules of the House to take away the right of any member to move to vote to open
the government, and gave that right exclusively to the Republican Leader,"
said Van Hollen. "Is that right?""The House adopted that
resolution," replied Chaffetz. Thanks for clearing up who is
1. HR 368 is an outright attack on democracy. I have no representation in the
House as I am not from Boehners district. 2. This is short term one more time
and it is pointless. 3. The question is why is the GOP doing this? I believe
it is the TEAParty is seeking a US shutdown for a coup. They have infiltrated
not only our legislative branch but the SCOTUS as well. I hope the Senate votes
no and the 14th amendment kicks in. At this point Boehner is a mouthpiece
TEAPuppet and moderate Republicans have cowered in the TEA. TEA is not
conservative it is far right reactionary. They are a propaganda machine seeking
to replace democracy with monied plutocracy.
It looks like we will legislate by threat of default from here out. Why would
not this go back and forth forever? Should the Democrats take back the House
they could defund every Republican law.
Leave it to Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and most of conservative talk radio to
help destroy the Republican Party. It is great to die for a cause, but it is
substantially greater to die for a cause that is right. Pulling the Republican
Party off a cliff by trying to extort their position from others is nonsense.
The Republican Party couldn't get elected to dog catcher at this point. If
you hate talk radio, you should take a measure of joy in their self destruction.
Their narrowing audience will continue to shrink in the months ahead. It is a
shame that they have taken the Grand Old Party with them.
By the way, what happened to the House Bill? If the house is the only one that
can vote on such a bill and they do not enact such a bill what happens to the
Did the house shoot down their own bill?
The debt continues to rise due to interest payments left over since the last
decades. If you want to reduce the debt, end the Bush tax cuts now,
and balance the ledger. Then go after the tax code and end subsidies to
businesses that show Billions in profits.
The growing debt is partly from interest payments these last decades. Congress
passes a budget, then starts a war (or two) off budget.Yuo can only
balance the budget when you balance the ledger and end the Bush tax cuts, end
payments to profitable Corp and rewrite the tax code and eliminate the many
To "Itsjstmeagain" the Bush tax cuts expired at the end of 2010. We
have not had those for nearly 3 years now.We have the Obama tax
cuts.Look at it this way, we have not had a Federal Budget set by
Congress since Obama was elected, and none of the liberals care. In that time
we have seen Obama give all sorts of tax cuts and money to his favored
supporting companies, like GE.If you want to fix things, don't
take the profits away from business, reduce the size and scope of the
government. You can't corrupt something that does not exist. Plus, it
will put more eyes on the remaining government departments.
