There would be less wars if the leaders were placed on the battlefield as
soldiers. There would be less economic problems if the leader
paychecks were based on performance.
President Obama has made it clear that he will not negotiate on either the
budget or the increase to the debt ceiling. Our Gov't was supposedly set up
so that no branch could dictate the terms for operation. Now the President and
House Majority Leader Reid have stated that they refuse to follow that
arrangement. They have stated that they MUST be given what they want.
techpubs:Negotiate on the budget? Obama gave the Repubs every
budgetary cut they wanted. The debt ceiling is borrowing money to cover what
Congress has ALREADY APPROVED and agreed to spend. The Reublicans are holding
parts of the government hostage unless Obama capitulates on Obamacare, which
passed Congress three years ago.
I'm sure those 1/3 of the Representatives that are running for re-election
in the House are quivering in their boots right now. It's a hot contest
that can cause quite the effect when November comes around.
washcomomBeaverton, ORI'm sure those 1/3 of the
Representatives that are running for re-election in the House are quivering in
their boots right now. It's a hot contest that can cause quite the effect
when November comes around.===1/3 of the senate is running.
Represenatives have a 2 year term.
Why not just give people a choice when it comes to Obamacare? If you like it,
knock yourself out, sign up. For those who don't want it, just give people
the same waiver Obama gave to his buddies! Freedom is a beautiful thing!
If Boehner would just let the house vote on the senate bill it would pass and
this would be all over. It seems to me that Utah voted for this shutdown by
sending Mike Lee and Jason Chafetz to congress. Sometimes you get what you ask
Of course Obama puts the blame for every failure at someones eases feet.
According to him, he never has made any mistakes. In the real world his list of
mistakes are very long. I'm sure all Americans wish now we would have
elected an actual president this time around.
Oatmeal,You have to realize that the budget they are talking about is not
about what was spent this last year, but what they will spend for the next year.
So in essence they have not already approved and agreed to spend that specific
amount. The cuts that were agreed upon last time have helped to trim the deficit
spending but have not eliminated it. And raising the Debt Ceiling only
encourages more deficit spending when Congress refuses to contain the budget to
the amount of income we are expecting.
viejogeezer, according to the constitution, spending bills HAVE to
originate in the house. the house cannot legally vote on the senate bill. and
no, the house would not pass the bill.harry and BO have shut down
the government and BO's press secretary bragged that BO would rather tank
the economy than offer concessions"White House press secretary
Jay Carney said sharply that Obama "will not offer concessions to
Republicans in exchange for not tanking the economy.""
OatmealHowever funding is the flexible thing after a bill is passed. I
remember some years ago when Congress passed some bill on border fences, but
then chose to not fund or to cut back funding. There are always two sides to
this legislative business, the bill and the money.MountainmanWhat you propose is too logical. And it involves giving people
"choice". Something the Democrats don't want the people to have
with one exception. Abortion. The rest, school choice, health care,
retirement, ect. they don't want people to have a choice on. They want to
use force and threat.
@ Oatmeal and Viejogeezer:You and others need to realize that the
Republicans are no longer trying to defund Obamacare. There has been and
continues to be a lot feedback of negative experiences involving personal
experiences with Obamacare. From national polls, there is no longer any question
that THE PUBLIC IS NOW SOLIDLY OPPOSED TO IT... ESPECIALLY AS IT IS CURRENTLY
WRITTEN. Republicans have simply been trying to listen to and represent the
majority of their constituents. However, since Obamacare is legally
still the law (at least for now), Republicans have backed off their demands to
defund Obamacare and instead are now simply asking that the Democrats give to
the American public what Obama has already given to the Unions and his special
interest corporations who supported him during the election. And that is to give
individuals the right to wait a year before signing up if they so choose. That
would give Congress an opportunity to work on some of the obvious weaknesses and
faults in the bill as it now stands. There is nothing unreasonable about that
whatsoever. Therefore, it really is the uncompromising Democrats...
Obama and the Senate... who are mostly to blame for the government shutdown.
Who is the person in charge? Not* The Republicans* The Tea
Party* George Bush* Rush LimbaughIt's Obama. The
Lost and Taters,Didn't the CR originate in the house? Do you deny
that if Boehner allowed a vote on a clean CR it would pass the house? Why
won't he allow the vote? Why should the Democrats or the President yield
to the lunatic fringe when clearly a majority of both houses would vote to end
the stalemate if given the chance?
as a side note to the shutdown...did you hear that Dr. Ben Carson (an outspoken
critic of the Barack regime and an accomplished neurosurgeon) was recently
audited by the IRS after his criticism of king Barack. So the pattern is
beginning to show it's ugly face. The pattern of a socialist dictator who
uses the IRS as his strong arm or Nazi style SS to intimidate any decenters. It
all started before the election of 2012 with the IRS being ordered obviously by
the White House to intimidate and audit certain conservative groups and now the
ugly 'Communist style' intimidation continues against private
citizens. America is being changed into AmeriKa right before our eyes. Barack
Obama is everything and then some ....Communist thug who punishes those on his
enemys list as no president has ever done before. This 'should' scare
all Americans to death - liberals and conservatives...because as the power of
this corrupt regime grows no one is safe especially with the IRS now holding you
hostage via health care.
I love how BO calls in the leaders of Congress to conference about the budget,
and then just tells them that he won't compromise in anyway on anything,
and then tells the press that he is reaching out. What a total phony! He already
has said he won't compromise publicly, again and again. JB has invited HR
for conference, and HR refuses to talk.I guess the message is clear.
Obama won the election and he is the king. HR will do his dirty work at the
expense of the country, and the rest of us are expected to bow down and worship
and be grateful for handout crumbs from the king's government welfare cake,
when we, the taxpayers, paid for the whole cake!Worst president in
the history of the USA. He even makes Putin look good!!!
patriotI know of people who will not post any thing like we do
opposing Obama just because they are afraid that their identity will be
discovered and they will get audited or some other bad thing will happen.
Imagine that, in this day with this President, there are people so afraid of
their own government that they will not use their first amendment right out of
fear of retribution. And stories about IRS abuse of T-Party, NSA spying, ect
only confirm to them their fears. I doubt I make enough money to warrent an
audit, but if I disappear from this site, watch out, you might be next. In the
meantime, some brave author might consider writing a book entitled, "Tyranny
in America 2008 to 2016".
The President of The United States of America has already negotiated over the
budget and has told Republican leaders repeatedly he is willing to talk about
any serious issues with regard to the budget. Appropriations for Military
spending versus Education. How much for Homeland Security and how much of that
for Illegal Immigrant Deportation. How much money for The FBI, or for the
Environmental Protection Agency. There's a long list of monetary issues
that are valid negotiating points. But when Republican leaders make a
proposal that they know Democrats cannot and will not under any circumstances
accept; that's not a genuine offer. And to then claim the other side
"won't negotiate" is disingenuous.Republicans actually
PLANNED a government shutdown long ago. Certain powerful and influential
Republican members of the House stated in their campaign speeches they would
"shut it down". Republican members of Congress attended a meeting months
ago during which a shutdown was discussed as a political strategy. The
Republican Party is no longer interested in the best interests of the American
people and they need to be voted out so that our government agencies can return
to doing good things.
The Guardian, a major British newspaper says "With options dwindling for
forcing Republicans to drop their fight, Obama faces a protracted battle linking
both spending and borrowing authority in a combined budget standoff." And so
it appears. Conservatives must win this fight despite what all the Obama
propaganda machine says. Our nation is doomed to a never-ending deficit spiral
which, without doubt, will end in our fiscal ruin and poverty like this nation
has seen before.
"The only thing preventing people from going back to work and basic research
starting back up and farmers and small business owners getting their loans, the
only thing that is preventing all that from happening right now, today, in the
next five minutes is that Speaker John Boehner won't even let the bill get
a yes or no vote because he doesn't want to anger the extremists in his
party," Obama said.Replace Boehner with Reid, and you have a
true statement.@happy2bhere: I was audited for 2009, and now am
being audited for 2010.The 2009 audit yielded $312 more taxes, after
taking 18 months to process. How much tax money was spent to get that $312?
Thousands. The 2010 audit is postponed because of the shutdown. Why are they auditing me, an average Joe, family of 6, making $95K? Could it
be that I donate money to a couple of organizations that Obama and his buddies
find abhorrent? The LDS Church, the Boy Scouts, the Romney campaign? I wouldn't put it past him to direct the IRS to illegally target not only
proposed non-profits, but also individual citizens he doesn't agree
with.Fascism at its finest.
There is nothing to negotiate. Republicans have backed themselves into a corner
trying to get a law overturned that was approved by the House and the Senate,
was signed by the President and vetted by the Supreme Court. The
whole GOP mindset over the shutdown and the ACA was said by Rep Stutzman:“We’re not going to be disrespected, We have to get
something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”Rep Boehner is looking for any little nugget from Reid & the President and
I hope they don't budge an inch. Boehner just has to bring it to a vote.
Teachers are held more accountable than a president.Pathetic.
