Miley who?but yes, In a capitalist society you vote with your pocket
book.In a Socialist society you rely on Government to regulate, ban, and
keep Capitalists in check by keeping them from selling: sex, drugs, human slaves
or anything else they can make money on.Miley -and others like her -
are products of Capitalism.
Agreed. As Alexander Pope said so famously over 200 years ago:"Vice is a monster of so frightful mien,As to be hated needs but be
seen, Yet seen too often, familiar with her face,We first endure,
then pity, then embrace."Interesting that Pope gave vice a
I didn't see the show and wouldn't have known of it except for all the
Didn't see the show, this is the first I have commented about it. Really
don't care, haven't watched MTV since I was a teen many, many years
ago. Have not, and will not lose any sleep over this. However, from
her point of view, she won. People are still talking about it, how many
consecutive days has the DNews run a story about this? How many have since gone
to YouTube because of the non stop press coverage over a 3 minute performance?
This is ancient news in today's news cycle.
Does anybody watch it anymore? Or do they just become aware of it when someone
causes a tizzy?
LDS Liberal. 'Socialist societies rely on the government keep Capitalists
in check and stop them from selling drugs, sex, slaves and anything else they
can make money on'? I am so happy to know that drugs, sex and slavery are
not sold in K, Korea, Cuba, Somalia or any European country, or for that matter
in Socialist California or Socialist Massachusetts or even Socialist Detroit!
What a relief it is to know that!
We must still be thinking of Miley as Hannah Montana when her MTV performance
causes some to react as though they are her father or mother. Kids grow up and
make their own decisions as adults.
Hint... The people who watch MTV LIKE performances like Milley's sex laced
dance. So what motivation does MTV have to prevent performances like that?
It appeals to their target demographic.I think they go out of their
way to INSURE that there is at least one controversial act like this at the
show. Think about it... EVERY YEAR there is one act that get's a ton of
publicity for the show for months for doing something like this. I think
it's planned, and intended, to please their audience.A bunch of
old folks and religious people complaining about the MTV Music Awards is NOT
going to motivate MTV to change.Face it... MTV's target
audience is kids (not adults). They aren't going to change their
programming to appeal to adults. Until KIDS stop watching (and advertisers
notice)... they are not going to change their formula. And we know that's
not going to happen.So... IF you don't want YOUR kids watching
the type of programming MTV provides all day every-day... you can block MTV from
the Cable Menu.
I thought repubs hated big government?Yet... When it comes to what
happens in the bedroom or living room, they demand that nanny government be
involved. Why? Let people decide what they want to watch. If you don't like
Miley Cyrus, then take accountability and change the channel. Remote Controls
are awesome inventions.
You don't watch that stuff, and I won't watch General Conference
FreedomFighter41,Who said anything about "Government"? Who
demanded government be involved???The only thing I've seen
proposed here is "don't watch it". Which involves you making your
own decision (nothing about Government doing it for you). The only
person who brought up Government was "LDS Liberal"... and he's a
Big Government fan like you! Don't blame HIS comments on people who think
you should make your own choice.----Mike in Sandy,Nobody's forcing you to watch MTV or General Conference (or not watch
them). I hope we keep it that way (and keep Big Government out of it).----Not everything in life is a government problem. This
is one of them.
I’d stop watching if I had ever started. But then, it’s MTV; what
do you expect but smut?We have become no better than the Romans who
filled the Circus Maximus to watch gladiators kill each other, slaves be ripped
to shreds by wild animals, and any other type of violent debauchery they could
come up with. People rave about violent cable programs set in Rome or some
mythical region with a number of thrones. We crave sex and violence, but then
wonder why some messed up guy shoots a room full of elementary school kids or
some other deranged soul shoots up a movie theater. We are, in many ways, no
better than the “entertainment” we gorge ourselves on. The fact
that government does nothing to control it as LDS?lib infers is not the issue;
the fact that we crave it is totally disheartening. Government is no better,
and no worse, than we are as a collective. Heaven help us.LDS?lib,Miley, and those like her, are the product of a liberal mindset
where anything goes and there are no personal morals nor responsibilities.
Progressive Liberal: I hate right wing talk radio and that awful Fox News. They
should be taken off the air.Conservative: Okay, then let me give you
the same advice you give me whenever I complain about all the violent, overtly
sexual, and vulgar TV shows and movies that are out there. If you don't
like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Micheal Savage or Fox News, here's an
idea. Don't watch or listen to them. Problem solved. Progressive Liberal: But that's different. Entertainment is not the same
as covering current events. Right wing talk radio and Fox News and hostile,
biased news sources, so they should be gone.Conservative: I could
say the same thing about MSNBC, NPR and Current TV, but since they would argue
freedom of speech and freedom of the press, I could not take them off. Progressive Liberal: That's right. In this country, everyone has the
right to free speech. Conservative: Except Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage
and Fox News?Progressive Liberal: I said free speech should be
protected, not hate speech.
@Mike in SandyShould LDS General Conference be taken off the air so
that you don't accidentally find yourself watching it?
Didn't see the actual event. Saw a news clip. Its obvious this
was more staged than a WWE event by people who just needs publicity or do I mean
attention? This differs little from Madonna & Britney kissing at the
VMA's Janet Jackson & her wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl.Ignore people like L Lohan, The Kardashians, Miley, etc... & they
will go away. Case in point; Paris Hilton & Octomom are just overused items
in the garbage bin that is pop culture.p.s. MTV stopped being cool
when they canned Beavis & Butthead and Headbangers ball
re: lost in DC"Miley, and those like her, are the product of a

@Pendergast -- I'm fairly "liberal" and I can assure you that I
wouldn't be out there dancing like Miley. That's not liberal,

**Turnabout is fairplay**
Oops, my comment was directed to "lost in DC".
@lost in DC - "We crave sex and violence, but then wonder why some messed up
guy shoots a room full of elementary school kids or some other deranged soul
shoots up a movie theater."You've just referred to 2
incidents in which people with mental/psychological issues acted out violently.
While media may have had some influence, these were both people who've had
incidents in their past that suggest other factors were driving their behavior
(especially in the case of Sandy Hook.) Neither of these incidents support your
argument...I agree with your assertion that we as a society have
become desensitized and allow far more "amoral" material in our
entertainment than we used to. But, I also believe that, for the majority of
people, there is still a clear difference in how we react to fictionalized
violence and real-life violence. I also agree that it's society that has to
change, and it must be done willfully; not at the behest of some government
