I say spend the money. If Obama can learn how to use his brain, it'll be
well worth it.
Psychology, now there's a joke. Psychology, actually psychiatry and
science fiction have a lot in common. Both are fiction with very little
Psychology demonised as very little science. And we're putting all our eggs
in the 'religion' basket?
"....Actually, understanding the brain will be a resounding success without
unlocking the essential mystery, which is: How does matter become conscious of
itself?...."______________________________The question of
how is interstitial with the question of why. Even if consciousness is proven to
be a meat byproduct, the question of what might cause matter to wake up and
smell the roses becomes all the more intriguing.Temperature, mass,
and trajectory might help explain the mechanics. But was creation set on course
by a willful force or a haphazard collision? A lot of folks already have a hard
and fast opinion on that, one way or the other.
I was awed by the elegance of the question "Do we have a body, or are we a
body?" That question is intrinsic to both religion and science.
