If its agreed that being proficient in English is important, which seems to be
the case based on the fact it's being tested, I suggest we start telling
immigrants(legal or not) to learn our language.
Seems, test scores are a source of contention.What an expensive/time
wasting joke. You'll never get a common score.
If he had only allowed sugary caffeinated Big Gulps, these kids would have aced
the tests....or at least finished faster.
I think this says a lot about state and federal input into education.This shows us that when you start pushing more and more standardized tests out
on the teachers, that they don't educate the kids, but teach what is needed
to get a good score. The teachers will do better next year because they will
know more of what the kids missed on the standardized tests.Had the
teachers been teaching the students proper english and correct math principals,
it wouldn't matter if the test was Common Core, the Iowa test, SAT, ACT, or
any other standardized test, the students would perform well.
The Iowa test was a joke sold to educators. As the standards slipped, so did the
averages. Iowa didn't measure against a core of knowledge, but compared
students against each other as they all slid downward together. The Lake Wobegon
effect took over and fooled the parents for decades.Now that teacher
benefits and pensions are at stake Washington decides to demand testing against
a fixed core of knowledge. Sounds good, right?But that core of knowledge
is colored with a liberal slant that goes beyond the 3Rs.The end result?
No one is pleased.Teachers never did like people looking over their
shoulders. Parents aren't real keen on what Washington calls core
knowledge. And students can't measure up.
So this is the result of the most expensive school system in the country. Guess
they need to be spending more per pupil.
