I did not have trouble with the fact that Coach A left, more just how he did it.
It was hard for him to leave I am sure, but the fact remains that he led Aggie
fans to believe he was staying..........well unless he gets a better job.
It was rough to have Andersen leave but you can't hold any ill-will against
him. What more could you ask someone to do to help turn around your program?
Nothing but love and respect for Coach A. "Players make plays, players win
games" Go Aggies!
Yes, the hardest part was having Gary say that he was staying right before the
job offer came.Regardless, I am thankful for Coach Andersen turning
the Aggie football program around. Haters will only point out last
season's success and say it was a fluke. You need to chart out the steady
improvement that the Aggies made over the past four years. All of that
hasn't vanished with Gary's departure.Coach A has left the
program in good hands with a fantastic group of players. The Aggies will do
well as they adjust to their new conference.
I respect Andersen a great deal and it is obvious that he made a tough decision
that only he knows all the details of. Ultimately I just leave it at that.
Andersen was the man... taking a bottom dweller to the top 25 in 4 years...
amazing.Enough of this, it is now about Coach Wells. Don't
forget, he ran the offense during Gary's last 2 years, the most successful
ones!As far as the 100 call hype? I talked to a handful of players
and they had not even heard the announcement yet... and an assistant called and
told them later that night.Maybe Gary called eventually... but from what I
have been told, no.Go Aggies!
No good coach will stay long at USU. If someone is going to pay you a few
million a year vs a few 100k you would be crazy not to take it. It is what is,
but if Wells is good he will be gone too. BSU and BYU are the exception to the
rule. I have gotten over getting my hopes up for USU football. I hope they do
well, but it won't last long.
I've been mystified since 2009 when the SLC dailies began predicting glory
for the Aggies simply because Anderson came aboard. In many ways despite his
leaving, the balloon bread, instant tradition continues to exaggerate the
football teams accomplishments. Because of this added glory that wasn't yet
deserved the "pain" for Anderson turning his back on the school is also
inflated in the eyes of the fan. Of course Anderson was going to leave at some
point, and he was able to do so on a high note. Camp Randell will have 85,000 in
the seats, the Aggies have averaged around 13-15,000 with a ONE year push to
20,000. Every Wisconsin game is on regional or national TV, USU and the MWC
other than Boise have almost nothing. Even the ESPN national coverage at BYU has
been lost. Salary and budgets at Wisconsin unlimited vs USU. there
shouldn't be feelings, he did a smart thing and gave the locals a thrill
that wasn't likely to last. Once you move into a tougher, but not by much,
MWC the wins won't come as easy, the fans who came out when you won may not
show when you lose.
I think the man is a class act. I know very little about this Wells character,
but to say that USU will continue their steady rise to relevance without any
speed bumps due to Anderson's departure is wishful thinking at best,
delusion at worst. When I went to USU, the football squad wasn't even
relevant in Logan! Very few people wen to the home games. Boise St. came to town
one year and I would be willing to bet there were more Boise St fans than there
were Aggies. It's a shame he left, but I don't fault him a bit.
Obviously, coaches like Anderson aren't a dime-a-dozen. The cream of the
crop coaches for the cream of the crop.
@Lightning LadMan, you seem to be just looking for reasons to be
depressed. USU made big strides every single year under GA, and had a great
year last year by all accounts. Will that continue under Wells? Who knows, but
things certainly don't look as glum as you make it out to be. Most UState
games are on TV this year, and USU has fared very well over the past 2-3 years
against current MWC foes, with the exception of Boise State (which is no longer
the Boise State of 2009). Will USU ever be a big-market, powerhouse BCS school?
Probably not in the near future. But it's still enjoyable to have a team
that probably will have regular winning seasons, bowl games, occasionally
phenomenal seasons, and will compete well most of the time with similar schools,
including Utah and BYU.
Even though I'm currently a badger, I was raised in northern Utah and was
subsequently heart broken when I heard Coach Anderson was leaving the Aggies.
He is a class act and it is miraculous what he was able to accomplish in four
short years up in Logan. I believe the foundation is now laid for USU to be
contenders in the MWC, which is a major improvement from where they were a few
short years ago. I hope Wells is up to the challenge. And oh, thanks for
setting him our way, the future is bright in Wisconsin!
I can't help but laugh at people who say it was a hard decision for
Andersen to get out of USU. Not when he was offere an outstanding amount of
money. Oh and the fact that he get's to coach a top 5 team who will always
have a shot at a national title doesn't hurt either. Huge jump from that
highschool team up in Logan.
i can't believe aggie fan would even care it has happened so much
@Stang08You mean the high school team that made the T-birds look
completely inept? lolOf course it wasn't a hard decision for
Andersen to leave: 3 mil > 750KI don't blame him. It's
Wisconsin! I hope he's successful.
One heck of a high school team to be rated in the top 20 of all colleges. My
high school team sure smothered the heck out of your little league team.Dead story about Anderson, good for him. End of Story. Let's get with a
story about the future DN.
Sambone, no I'm talking about the high school team who lost to BYU, Wisc,
Utah on a number of occasions, Texas A&M, Auburn etc. The highschool team
that didn't stand a chance in said games. @Aggie84The lower top 25 and only getting into the Potato bowl. Once great game
because you were ready. I've gotten over it. Now if you were truly so
much better than SUU why did you only score 38+ points? If you were so much
better you should've scored 100+ points right?
Remember this name John L Smith!
RE: Stang08"Sambone, no I'm talking about the high school
team who lost to BYU, Wisc, Utah on a number of occasions, Texas A&M, Auburn
etc. The highschool team that didn't stand a chance in said games."That's a USU team that lost by a field goal or less to the teams
you mentioned (except Utah, who they beat). You're honestly saying that a
team that finishes within a field goal "didn't stand a chance"?
Sorry, but you're just plain wrong. Who knows what will happen moving
forward but in the last two seasons USU has been quite good, bordering on great.
They beat Utah once in 100 years. A loss is a loss weather it's a field
goal or the score that was put up in the SUU game. Like I said a loss is a loss
is a loss. You weren't supposed to win any of those games and you
didn't. There is no way around that. Good yes, great no chance. Admit it
Wiscougarfan I am right about your precious aggies and you. Hey
Sambonethegreat, you still believe that Wiscougarfan isn't an aggie?
RE: Stang08You're spinning circles so I won't try to
respond further. However, for clarification sake, I am not an Aggie. I am a
Cougar, a Hoosier, a Badger, a Falcon, and I try to be a rationale human
being... but no Aggie.
@Stang08You know what? For someone who constantly preaches about and
demands respect, they sure do work incredibly hard to go out of their way to
disrespect others. Hypocrisy at its finest, no doubt.Wiscougarfan is allowed to analyze other teams. That doesn't mean
he's necessarily a fan of any said analyzed teams. His opinion counts for
something. He has a right to be heard, and he has a right to be respected.Sound about right, Wiscougarfan?
Cheers Sambonethegreat. I appreciate the level headed response to a misguided
hater and the acknowledgement that football fans can analyze others just because
(and hopefully somewhat objectively). I prefer analysis to trolling and am glad
that most on this board can recognize that for what it is.
Nobody here is level headed. Not even you You are a true aggie just admit it.
