I'm sorry, but Lincoln was not referring to the rebels when he spoke of the "honored dead." Those who fought for tyranny, who insisted that they had the right to enslave their fellow men and were willing to kill for that "right," should not be "honored."
The honored dead were the ones who died for the freedom of their fellow human beings. The ones in the blue uniforms.

"government of the people, by the people, and for the people" is not perfect government. To preserve it in Lincoln's day, young men had to give their lives in a desperate war with their fellow countrymen. "

    QUOTE

I don't see the Civil War in quite the same way. I see it this way:

.." it has been their quarrelings and their contentions, yea, their murderings, and their plunderings, their idolatry, their whoredoms, and their abominatins, which were among themselves, which brought upon them their wars and their destructions. And they who were faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord were delivered at all times."

Alma 50:21 and 22 (Spoken of the Nephites but imo deserving wider application)

"Thy bretheren have rejected you and your testimony, even the nation that has driven you out; And now cometh the day of their calamity."

    Doctrine and Covenants 136: 34-35

The vast majority of nations on earth ensure freedom and liberty to their citizens. The US didn't invent it and republicans aren't the only ones who care about it.

Irony guy you distort facts of the war. Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation as a threat to those states in rebellion, issued January of 1963, it only applied to slaves in Confederate held lands; it did not apply to those in the five slave states that were not in rebellion, nor to most regions already controlled by the Union army.

"Those who fought for tyranny, who insisted that they had the right to enslave their fellow men and were willing to kill for that "right," should not be "honored." Was not the cause of the civil war. Nor is the Confederate flag a symbol of slavery. As you distort the facts even the non-rebellious states with slaves fighting with the Union Army should not be honored in blue either.

Many just and honorable men on both sides died in that terrible war. A war caused by many festering issues.
