"The Fair Tax eliminates the IRS, all income taxes, the Social Security
payroll tax, corporation taxes, estate taxes and taxes on interest, dividends
and capital gains and Medicare premiums."Wowsiers! It does all that? Can it also wash my dishes and mow my lawn!?Momma always told me that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. A
closer look at "fair tax" shows that it is yet again, another GOP tax
cut for the rich and increase on everyone else. No thanks, ill pass.
We should increase taxes on the rich, slash the defense budget in half,
institute a single payer system, and heavily invest in education, green energy,
manufacturing and watch how quickly our economy would recover from that
disasterous 2000-08 trickle down economics disaster.
Burkett is slightly off base, but has recognized the root problem of
America's tax system. The root problem is that the current system is
specifically designed, not to finance security and infrastructure, but to take
from productive citizens and give to non-productive ones.Indeed, the
current tax structure punishes hard work and innovation, while rewarding
laziness and sloth. Those who work hard have their dollars taxed away and given
to those who refuse to work to provide for themselves. The tax system
must be reformed before there is no longer any incentive to work. Who will the
left-wing government tax when there are no longer and workers and everyone is
sitting around waiting for their welfare check?
@john charity spring. Where are all these people on welfare and exactly how much
federal taxes goes to welfare? We spend more money on wars than any kind of
welfare or social programs by far.And why are you so jealous of
people on food stamps anyways? It's not like they are going on vacations or
going out to eat or enjoy nice things. Enjoy your life man instead of worrying
about whether some person is taking advantage of the system.
The real problem with the IRS evaluating applications for non-profit status is
that there are no clear guidelines. The Inspector General Report found
that the IRS didn't give some of the largest and most flagrant abusers of
501(c)(4) status extra scrutiny. It is absolutely false reporting that the IRS
targeted only conservative and no liberal organizations for extra scrutiny. It
is also obvious why the IRS looked at organizations called "Tea Party."
The Tea Party is widely recognized as a political movement-- with lower taxes
one of its main concerns. "Social welfare" isn't the first thing
associated with Tea Party."We stand behind our earlier analysis
of the FairTax. The proposal to which Gov. Huckabee referred is not a 23 percent
tax, but rather a 30 percent tax. And it is revenue-neutral only through an
accounting trick. It will collect more money from those earning between $15,000
and $200,000 per year and less from those earning more than $200,000 per year.
It is possible that the FairTax would make most people better off, but much of
that gain would be a direct result of making the tax code less fair."(Factcheck)
The fair tax increases taxes on the poor and middle class while lowering them on
the rich. That's why rich people seem to like it so much.
The Fair Tax is not a fair tax. The retail sales tax is a terrible
way to finance government. It is not equally applied to products.
It is applied to the retail price paid for the product. Retail prices can vary
greatly in the same town. The alternative to allowing them to vary is called
price fixing. It is not applied to all consumption. Not to
business, not to charity, not to used products, not to most services, not to
investments, not to speculation, not to capital gains, not to inheritances, not
to foreign products. Collecting the tax adds cost to the product
and not all the tax collected is remitted to the government. Unscrupulous people use sales tax revenue to bribe government employees by
promises of relocation of the business or residence. There are
probably even more and better reasons to not use Sales Tax for government
If anyone has questions on who truly owns the lobbyists in Washington, just read
about the "fair tax." Ironic that it is called that. The "fair
tax" is nothing more than a tax break for millionaires and billionaires and
a hike on everyone else.Best government money can buy!How much longer are we going to fall prey to these sort of shenanigans?
ShaunSandy, UT@john charity spring. Where are all these people
on welfare======= Don't look now, but John is
one of the one's living off of the evil liberal "Social Security"
and "Medicare" programs. One of those : Cut government
welfare!, just not MY government welfare - types.
@Truthseeker"It is absolutely false reporting that the IRS targeted
only conservative and no liberal organizations for extra scrutiny."But, it's absolutely true that IRS targeted mostly conservative
organizations. Obama even said so... as did his fired IRS chief.
Re:wrzFrom the Inspector General's report:"Figure 4 shows that approximately one-third of the applications
identified for processing by the team of specialists included Tea Party,
Patriots, or 9/12 in their names, while the remainder did not. According to the
Director, Rulings and Agreements, the fact that the team of specialists worked
applications that did not involve the Tea Party, Patriots, or 9/12 groups
demonstrated that the IRS was not politically biased in its identification of
applications for processing by the team of specialists. We reviewed
all 298 applications that had been identified as potential political cases as of
May 31, 2012. In the majority of cases, we agreed that the applications
submitted included indications of significant political campaign
Truthseeker,So you are saying BO lied. Thanks for admitting
your hero is a liar.
The fair tax does add tax to the middle class. I think poor get a refund.
However the benefits far outweigh the problems. For one thing we save
$200,000,000,000 each year in compliance costs that's right $200 billion.
The economy would go crazy with growth. Everyone who would want a job would have
one. But it is too sensible for our legislators.
The so-called “Fair Tax” (“FT”) is MORE WEALTH
REDISTRIBUTION, AND a financial SCAM.FT advertises "MORE
PROGRESSIVE" (MORE WELFARE). The poor pay NO tax, get SS/Medi FREE, receive
a big tax welfare check (NET). Everyone gets a welfare check (Prebate)and many
will depend upon it - $600B entitlement that is sure to grow.Prices
go up 25+%. Several big HIDDEN taxes, even though FT says its
"transparent".Combined fed + S/L 40(fed 30% not 23% + 10%
S/L)to -70% (+ 30% for evasion/avoidance)sales tax, will spark a consumer revolt
destroying the economy.New homes cost 35-40% more - down payment
nearly 50%, because lenders won't lend on the sales tax.New IRS
(i.e., STAA) will be worse - invasive consumer audits maybe have to file
"annual FT Summary".FT will lead to a NEW Income Tax,IN
ADDITION - 16th Amendment will not go away and FT's laughable Sunset Clause
will be repealed. We need a 10% Income Tax - NO deductions, etc.
