Is the president really micro managing the activities of front line civil
I've been audited. These folks weren't even audited!! Their
application was essentially subject to review to see if they were eligible for
tax exempt status. Was it based on the difficulty of determining if
the majority of these particular groups' activities were to 1) promote
social welfare, or 2) engage in political activity? The particular section
of law they are applying under requires that the groups are for "promoting
social welfare," yet all Tea Party groups were clearly engaged in loud,
blatant and very public political activities.Simply sending a memo that
says, "Hey folks, it looks like those 'tea party' groups are
mostly political. Be sure to check social welfare activity is valid," seems
perfectly acceptable to me.

Appointee was running the IRS when this happened.I AM NOT blaming
bush , just pointing to another logical flaw in your grand conspiracy theories.
The IRS's head was appointed by George W Bush. But those wanting to somehow
blame this on Obama apparently aren't interested in facts.
Someone in the IRS tilted the playing field to the left. That much is clear but
all of the facts are yet to be discovered. Predictably, the left wingers have
brought Bush into the equation. Now if we can only figure out how Bush is
responsible for the LA Lakers downfall and the Jazz not making the playoffs.
@Happy Valley Heretic "Then why was it that a Bush Appointee was running the

donating money to the Democratic National Committee?

for 'progressive' groups?

Well Nate, Obama obviously inserted his sleeper agent into GW's admin
through mind control, years before he was appointed the President of the United
States by the communists thru voter fraud at the polls, or let me beat your
fellow poster to it, the IRS guy wanted free stuff so he sent a check to the
"Elect Obama, Get Free Stuff -PAC or the DNC, you know the bad guys. There was NO directive, there was a memo.
@Happy Valley Heretic "Well Nate..."Okay. So you don't
want talk a about Douglas Shulman's donation to the DNC. I can see why.Back to my other question: where's the
memo-that's-not-a-directive ...um... directing the staff to check out
groups with the word 'progressive' in their titles?
Maybe we should wait for and hear the facts before we jump to any
conclusions. The Diane Rehm show on NPR (available in UT) had an
excellent program discussing this issue.I can tell you Presidents
and Congress develop and pass laws. Pres. Obama doesn't have anything to
do with the IRS issue. What we really need to do is to revise our
campaign laws so that we don't have these types of opaque quasi-political
organizations masquerading as something else. The law says 401c-4s must be
EXCLUSIVELY involved in social welfare as opposed to political activities for
tax-ezempt status. However, the IRS for the past many years has interpreted the
law as requiring organizations to be PRIMARILY involved in social welfare
activities. Let's pass the Disclose Act requiring:any group that spends $10,000 or more on election ads, or any other political
activity, to file a disclosure report with the FEC and to disclose donors who
gave $10,000 or more and provide a statement from the group’s head
ratifying that there was no coordination with any campaign, which is illegal.
The IRS is the agency that Obama instituted to force compliance with Obamacare.
After seeing how the IRS is a puppet for Obama, we should wonder just how fair
and neutral Obamacare will be. Are we going to be "audited" if we
disagree with some part of the nearly 3,000 pages of Obamacare? Are we going to
be "audited" if we question payments made to OUR doctors for OUR
treatment? When the IRS feels that its duty is to aid the President
to "perform his duties", that agency is suspect and all who work in that
agency are suspect.Washington has the right to collect taxes, but it
doesn't have the right to "audit" those who speak out against the

"I'm sure it does. Where was the corresponding directive for
'progressive' groups?"Umm... maybe because there was
not an explosion of new progressive groups right after the first election for
Obama. Now with that said, rhetoric aside, this level of abuse of power seems
to happen in each administration. Those who think they are doing the will of
the president gaff - greatly and embarrassingly for the current administration.
We have this act - absolutely out of line. Before this we had good
old Scooter Libby and the outing of a CIA agents identity for not supporting the
WMD narrative. These types of embarrassment plague all administrations.
Clinton had Travelgate. Bush I was snared in IranContra questions, as was his
predecessor. Laws may been broken here, and as with other
administrations, some may need to pay for their over exuberance. Rightfully so.
