Good for Jason! It took a lot of courage for him to be the first to step up.
I'm sure he won't be the last!
I hope his teammates are equally respected if they don't want to shower by
him.I dont shower with women at the gym, even though I would respect
them and not attack them if I did.Similarly, I'm not suggesting
Collins is going to start attacking his teammates. But just as I dont
shower with women, I hope people can respect his teammates if they do not wish
to shower with someone who may be looking at them in a sexual manner.
@Chris --"I dont shower with women at the gym"1.
you're not a professional athlete;2. you haven't been showering
with them for a decade already;3. you don't have the same girly parts
they do;4. their orientation would also lead the women to possibly be
attracted to you.#3 and #4 are actually serious issues. 3. -- you've got the same parts as all the other men in the showers.
You've seen them, day in and day out, for your entire life. The same can
not be said for girl parts. Similarly, gay guys have seen boy parts
every day of their lives. It isn't some rare treat for them. 4.
If you (a straight man) shower with women, most of those women will also be
straight. Therefore, there's a possibility for mutual attraction.
That's where the real tension comes in. I wouldn't want to
shower with a straight man (I'm a straight woman). But I wouldn't mind
showering with a lesbian woman. I'm not going to be attracted to her, so
why would I care if she's attracted to me? I'm not that insecure. ;-)
@amazon,You're really swinging at everything hoping something
will make sense. It didnt work.1. What does being a professional
athlete have to do with anything? In the rare cases where women have
played in men sports(it's happend in baseball, golf, college football) the
female players don't shower with the men. Men don't shower with
women. Women don't shower with men. Professional or not. That matters
nothing.Swing and miss. 2. Because its happenened in the past is
hardly good justification for continuing something. If someone doesn't pay
taxes for 10 years, is that good reason to continue to not do it? Swing and a
miss. 3. What does having the same parts have to do with anything?
I also don't have the same skin color as african americans or latinos. 4. "Mutual attraction is where the real tension comes in"Ok, so I can go into a woman's locker room as long as she
isn't attracted to me? Makes sense. Not. Swing and miss.I'm sorry, you tried really hard on that. But each response is a
swing and a miss.
@Chris --Sorry, Chris, but the moderators aren't allowing me to
post my full response. Therefore, I'll just say:Women disrobe
in front of male doctors all the time. If you think about it, the reasons why
it's okay for women to do that are the same basic reasons why it's
okay for basketball players to shower in front of a gay teammate. I wish I could
explain more specifically, but I'm simply not being allowed to!
Wow! With all the legitimate issues currently facing this country and it's
sovereignty, yet the White House chooses to use it's time commenting on
such non-issues as some guy admitting he's gay. It's little wonder the
White House is having a hard time taking care of the real issues facing this
country. They seem to have their priorities totally mixed up. Very,
very few people in this country would list whether some unknown guy named
Collins is gay or not, as being any kind of event effecting them whatsoever.
It's actually been quite awhile since anyone coming out of the closet has
been considered newsworthy by most people... and rightfully so.I
would also hope that the DN can do a better job of reporting on things that are
actually more news worthy, instead of taking up readers' time with these
