Larry Scott should ask him to reconsider. A great ref with a lifetime of
experience and respect vs. a remark taken the wrong way. Wow. What a nation of
babies we have become.
This is interesting news. The PAC-12 and WCC have arguably the worst
officiating in college basketball. Ed Rush promised to clean up the PAC-12 and
he fired a couple of marginal refs and promised there would be more. But no
news was ever reported of him actually doing anything more. I'd like to
know if he did more. But I think the strongest evidence that those two
conferences have the worst referees is manifested by the results of the NCAA
Tournament. Both conferences have miserable performances post season because
the teams have been nursed by biased officiating to garner great records in
qualifying. But in reality, the teams were not conditioned by fair officiating
and they are consistently unprepared for the Big Dance. I hope the new PAC-12
head of officials will fulfill the hollow promises made by Ed Rush. I hope the
WCC can learn from the big brother's example.
The fall guy.
The Pac-12 actually fared just fine in the tournament. Oregon reached the sweet
16 losing to eventual champ Louisville. Arizona also reached the sweet 16.
California upset #5 seed UNLV and lost to eventual final four team Syracuse.
Overall, it was a pretty good showing considering what they were seeded.
