What a great talk. It was truly an old fashion sermon, not holding back. When
he spoke of 4 of the Ten Commandments that we follow as a society, I had to
scratch my head at the mention of murder. Abortion, like murder, is the taking
of the life of another without the victim being involved in the choice. Ending
the life of a fetus when the mother had no choice for the preganancy, such as is
the case of rape and incest, is a difficult choice left between the mother, who
had no choice in the matter, and God. Elder Perry showed restraint to avoid
this sensitive topic, but in reality, society obeys only 3 of the 10. It was a
great conference. Thank you to the Church leaders!
I also had to wonder if Elder Perry was a bit too optimitic about how well
people follow the 4 commandments he mentioned. However, I think in general most
people would in practice say that murder, lieing, stealing and dishonoring
parents is bad. Although I am not sure about the fourth. It is definately
clear that there is more acceptance of these principals in society than the
other six, so at least as an issue of magnitude Elder Perry is right.
Obedience is not only the first law of heaven, it is also the first law of
