When do I get my shoplift-for-free card?

They were awaiting deportation. Another attempt to divert the real questions?

If released, we would spend a lot more trying to track them down.

"It costs an average of $122 to $164 a day to detain immigrants in federal custody. In contrast, alternatives such as supervised release or electronic monitoring carry an average price tag of about $14 a day. More than 95 percent of immigrants in such programs showed up for their final court hearing"

How can anyone read this and conclude that jail is the best alternative?

If it only costs $14 a day, why did the government turn them free and not use electric monitoring?

I question the 95% showing up. If their deportation had not been decided, 95% could be an honest figure. But if they had their last hearing, and were awaiting deportation, like the articles covering the story when it broke said, then why not remove the tracking device, go somewhere else, and start over with a new idea?

Many do it each year. A large percentage of those given the option of self deportation never go. It's all a big joke to some in this government.

Pride and integrity is what a person has to become a citizen. Why would you want to take that away from any one. Send then home to do it right. Charge for the bus ride.

How about just deporting those who are here illegally. No hearing necessary. In the 60's it took just 5 minutes for me to be deported when I arrived in Taiwan without a visa. No visa, no stay. Simple.

Just goes to show that there is no such thing as "compassionate conservatism".

    Keep going.
The next election is 18 months from now,
and by these comments, we can see why you will keep loosing, and loosing.

What's your point, Open Minded Mormon? Republicans should discard its core principles, sacrifice the birthrights of America's children, and cede a portion of the sovereignty of the United States to Mexico, for votes?

Goes to show that there is no compassion in the illegal alien community. Nor is their compassion in our business community. We are the victims, not the ones who ignore our laws.

Why lock them up? Because they broke our laws and were to be deported.

Hispanic's voted for Obama because of Obama-care, not immigration. But keep it up, you'll kill legal immigration over fears of stacking the deck for one party.

If it wasn't a blatanly obvious problem for the GOP,
Why do they themselves acknowledge it as to a pivotal cause for their shellacking at the polls last election?
And why are they spending $10 million dollars for a problem YOU don't think even exists?

But go ahead -- as a former Republican myself, I blame your extremeist - "ilk"- as RedShirt always says, as to the demise of the once great Big Tent, Blue-Dog Democrat, Reagan GOP.

Keep going though -- just remember, you are not hurting "us", you are only hurting yourselves.

Its true that Obama has played good politics so far with the illegal alien issue.

But - do Dems. REALLY want law enforcement politicized?

I don't think Obama will get anything new for illegal immigrants. But I think he wants to make it appear to "try his best" for their amnesty.
That, to him, is all that matters. He just wants their vote. The unions who are big supporters of Obama don't want any more competition for THEIR jobs either.

At the end of the arguments, no "path to citizenship" will occur, because unethical businesses won't allow ANY enforcement measures to be implemented. Rubio's plan is contingent on that happening and will fall apart since Obama refuses to let his border patrol do their jobs!

BTW - I don't think immigration enforcement is necessarily a "R" vs. "D" issue. Unethical businesses are actually lobbying both political parties to be able to keep their cheap source of labor.

Seriously - Why lock them up?

When people break laws, they are incacerated based on their being an imminant threat or danger to other persons or Society.

Take for instance the difference between someone caught J-walking or armed bank robbery.

If a hard working "immigrant" is caught,
and they are not a dangerous threat, cite them until their trial.

Seriously - Why lock them up?
