What a mess--reflects this administration's poor, divisive leadership.
You conservatives wanted your budget cuts, so this is what happens. Don't
cut the government's ability to function and then complain about the
DHS just bought over a billion bullets. They have the money, they are just
playing politics, the people could of been deported instead. It's
priorities, and Obama deciding to not deal with local sheriffs departments, and
instead build country club facilities to house illegal aliens in brought this
upon us. Poor management.
@KJB1:"You conservatives wanted your budget cuts, so this is what
happens."What the conservatives want is an efficient government.
Speaking of which, the US General Accountability Office (GAO) recently put out
a report identifying billions that could be saved by correcting fraud, waste,
and abuse in the federal government. A good manager would grab a-hold of that
report and begin implementing. But no. We ain't got a good manager in the
White House. I don't know who's dimmer him or Maxine Waters who tells
us that sequestration will result in 170 million Americans being laid off...
There ain't that many workers in US.
So BHO has the equivalent of an executive conniption as his big power play fails
and we're expected to just march right behind him? This release was a
coldly calculated ploy by a reckless and irresponsible administration.
Never letting a good crisis go to waste, the liberal government is using the
sequestration of 85 billion in a vast sea of a 14 trillion deficit, as their
green light to turn these illegal aliens loose back inside the country.
My question is why these individuals were not deported rather than released.
This would have been easier. Our President and his administration are in a world
of hurt and they need to go. I am still amazed that the people of this country
could not see this coming when they elected him. In any other position, he would
have been long gone by now. Yes, we are the shareholders of this nation and we
need a new President who can lead and get things done.
WRZ - I mostly agree with you that we can build a leaner and more efficient
government. Businesses do it all the time - work to provide more service at
lower cost. There should be a federal program rewarding federal employees who
figure out ways to save the tax payers money. But where you error is
that this is an Obama problem. It isn't. It wasn't a Bush created
problem either. We have people who have worked in these jobs for decades.
People who have spanned multiples of administrations. You have the same problem
in the civilian side of business. People who have been in the same position
multiples of years become myopic about how to run their business. So I reject
the whole blame Obama game.As to under the current sequestration,
can they do what you say. No. Each department has to cut 7%. Regardless.
It isn't the 7% cut that is stupid.... it is how it is mandated to be
applied and appropriated that is stupid. And there, Obama and Congress are
equally responsible for playing chicken with our lives and money. You
can't have your cake and eat it too. Same applies to government programs.
Tea Party, you can't have it both ways. If youhate government and
don't fund it, this leavesgovernment unable to provide the
servicesyou want.Probably what happened is some contractsfor housing prisoners were up for renewal andwith sequestration looming,
it wasn't clearthere would be money to pay so the detaineshad
to be let go.
Let's just sit back and watch, how many of these "Non violent, Non
criminal..." released illegal immigrants will really show back up for
deportation hearings. And when they don't be ready for this "Many of
these people felt threatened and returned to their native home land by their own
choice thus we have washed them off the rolls...". How better to keep the
immigrant vote alive and well in the United States.
KJB1--it was Obama who created these tax cuts--New Times Feb 17, 2013Flip-flop
Worf - there is no flip flop here. There was a plan to make sanctions if an
agreement couldn't be made - as an incentive to give a motivation to get
to work. How in the world do you call that a flip flop. Have you never told
your kids that if you don't do "x", were going to have to do
something - and often that something so stupid that you fully expect it will
never need to be applied. Yes, it was Obama whose idea it was to
put sanctions on bad behavior of congress. Congress agreed to these sanctions
by putting them into law - in which Obama signed. Now congress didn't do
their job, sanctions go into place, and it is Obama's fault....Will the partisan silliness never stip.
Nothing to worry about. We have a well-armed citizens militia to protect us,
compliments of the 2nd Amendment.
UtahBlueDevil--amazing how you can spin an excuse for Obama.Excuses
are a sign of weakness, and corruption.Through out history, most
suffering, and poverty has come from bad governments. Despite the excuses.
@The Deuce:"My question is why these individuals were not deported
rather than released."You gotta realize what Obama is up to...
His goal for the next two years is to discredit all he can Republicans in the
House. He has the Senate in his hip pocket. He's after the House. If he
can get the House in the midterm election he will be free and clear to do his
will in the last two years in his last term. He doesn't care a whit about
sequestration or anything else so long as he can make the Republicans look
bad.@SpanishImmersed:"Never letting a good crisis go to
waste, the liberal government is using the sequestration of 85 billion in a vast
sea of a 14 trillion deficit, as their green light to turn these illegal aliens
loose back inside the country."Why turn them loose, you ask?...
This is a ploy similar to giving amnesty to a certain group of illegals just as
he did before he got elected. His goal in the release is to re-capitalize the
securing the Hispanic vote for the midterm elections. See my comment above.
@UtahBlueDevil:"But where you error is that this is an Obama problem.
It isn't. It wasn't a Bush created problem either."I
agree that this problem has been around for years through several presidents and
will take some time to completely implement... But the government has to start
sometime and the current GAO report identifying billions of savings is a good
place. I aughta know since GAO has identified and reported on such
inefficiencies and potential savings even back when I worked for GAO as an
auditor. "Each department has to cut 7%."No, no.
The across the board cut is about 2%... over two years. And it's not a cut
of existing expenditure levels. It's a cut of increases. That's why
Obama's ranting is crazy... No one has to be laid off since it's a CUT
There is so much waste in federal government that it is a wonder why they only
targeted DHS and DOD. According to FY budgets, in 2008 actual spending for the
dept of Transportation was $68.6B, 4 years later it had risen to $84.1B in 2012.
Dept of Energy actual spending was $24.1B in 2008 and had nearly doubled in
2012 to $40.5B(wasted solar and electric car investments). The Dept of
Agriculture(includes WIC and Food stamps) rose from $69.6B in 2001 to $84.4B in
2008, $15B increase in 8 years. In 2012 that number had risen to $139B and the
president proposed an increase to $154.5B in 2013. That is an increase of
nearly $70B in 5 Years. The EPA's funding increased 70% from 2008 to 2011
going from $7.5B in 2008 to $10.7B in 2011. These are just 4 of the 24
different departments in the Federal government. But, this President and
congress cut mainly from DHS and DOD. Just dumb. The only reason I can think
of is that cuts in other departments would not be noticeable and therefore
cutting funding would not infuriate the public. Politically motivated.
Why isn't anybody asking the bigger question. Why were they
released BEFORE the sequester took effect? Just because it was impending does
not mean it will happen, look at the previous budget impasses we have faced. So, if DHS was not under the sequester spending limits, why would they
release 2,000 illegal immigrants?
Take note. By law DHS is supposed to have 34,000 detainees. Napolitano admits
that she has not done so.The next time she claims that immigration
enforcement is adequate and we can proceed to legalize millions, let's
remind her that for some time she has not complied with the law making the
