" I will cut the deficit in half during my first four years or I'll be a one term president"

    barack obamba

The deficit wasn't cut in half. Wasn't cut by 25%. Didn't even hold constant. It increased.

Barack, dont lie to the american people. It's shameful.

    Barack increased the national debt

    more than

    all other

    US Presidents

    combined.

    Fact.

In the history of our country,

our debt has increased more in the

    past 4 years

than the rest of our existence

    combined.

Wealth is created, the economy grows, and our standard of living increases when collectively we put ideas to work and convert our time and energy into real products and services.

We will always need some level of government, just like every company needs people like security guards, cleaning crews, lawyers, and tax compliance accountants. But those positions do not add any real value to the company like the employees who are designing, building, and selling the company's products do.

When government gets too big, its like a company who hires more people that don't contribute to the company's bottom line than those who do. Eventually, the company fails.

It's like some school districts that have more "administrators" than teachers. All the money is sucked into non-productive jobs and the education of the kids suffers.

Well, there are going to be two Republican responses, one from Rubio, one from Rand Paul. Which voice is the GOP? Both? Neither? Or has the Republican party become two parties, both sure losers?

‘GOP to label Obama agenda 'big government'’ - Title

And yet, under George W. Bush we had the...

    Patriot Act

    TSA

    Bank bailouts

and factually invaded two countries. Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama did not start any of these.

Under President Regan, the national debt...tripled.

Under President George W. Bush, the national debt...doubled.

The debt has not, tripled or doubled under Obama.

If you are going to label the other party as doing something bad?

Make sure it's not something your own party has taken, to new heights.

    To "Open Minded Mormon":

Ever heard of Pol Pot? Stalin? Hitler? Mao's "Leap Forward" that killed 45 million in 4 years? Even the worst of the worst "robber barons" can't compare.

"Big Business" can be corrupt, yes, but you are not compelled to take part in what they provide, unless mandated by the state. Which brings us back to big government.

Should the leadership of Walmart or Apple go AWOL, are they going to send out the gestapo to ensure compliance to their wishes? No. History teaches us that the same cannot be said for government.

443,000 Americans die every year from Big Tobacco.
2 Million Americans die every year from Big Pharmacy.
300,000 American die every year from Big Oil fossil fuels.
32,000 Americans die every year from Guns.

That's just America - and that's each and every year.
Not worldwide, and not over many, many years...
[Those numbers be more like 60 Million deaths per year]

So, although absolutely evil - Pol Pot, Stalin, Hitler, & General Mao -
their reigns of death pale in comparison those who die for Business and the pursuit of the all-mighty Dollar $.

    Open Minded Mormon,
Child sex crimes over the internet is one of the fastest growing sex crimes in the US. There is an estimated 100,000 fugitive child sex predators in the US(committee on the judiciary). Just Child exploitation alone(photos etc) increases at roughly 150% per year. So, by your logic, it is BIG internet companies fault and you are contributing to it by using the internet to post and read.

The fact is that people choose to smoke, choose to OD on pills and choose to kill others. In those scenarios the individual person is responsible for their own actions not BIG companies. Conversely, BIG government is responsible when they take away freedoms, round you up against your will and throw you in an oven or gas chamber. Otherwise, the blame for the millions that Hitler had murdered actually lies with the oven and gas makers or barbed wire companies that supplied fencing to help keep people in the concentration camps. Come on.

Regarding gun control, lets look to Barack at his decisions.

He had the choice for the secret service to either

    carry

    OR

    not carry

    to protect his family.

Does anyone know what barack chose?

    GUNS.

He wants those protecting his family to carry.

    I will do.

Using barack as my example of how to protect my family.

    ============

You do realize that the Nazis [and Fascism] were a radical far right-wing extremist political party, don't you?

    The people they rounded-up:

    Liberals,
    Communists,
    homosexuals,
    Non-Christans,
    Immigrants,
    poor and the Homeless,
    etc.

    Yes, I fear BIG Government,
but only because the same sort of radical far-right-wing in America could come into power, and do those same sorts of things.

    BTW - I lean left-of-center.
I like many aspects of Socialism.

Among them is that Socialist countries can ban on-line pornography, sex, and violence in the media,
they have better control over businesses,
have universal healthcare for their citizens,
and they have banned assault rifles.

Rather than thinking we have all the answers, and we are always right -
I suggest we look into what others are doing, see what works, and implement or even improve upon it.

America has been doing that since 1776.
    It's what made us better.
Not ignoring the rest of the world [close-minded], and going it alone.

What, Obama is big government?!! Since when did that happen? When I was watching the 2008 campaign, he said that Bush's deficits were wrong, and that government solutions don't work. Now they say that Obama is a "big government" politician!! The outrage.

In other news, zebras have stripes and Lions have been found in Africa.

To "Open Minded Mormon" I don't think you understand conservatives.

You said that "I fear BIG Government, but only because the same sort of radical far-right-wing in America could come into power, and do those same sorts of things." Yet it is the conservatives that are wanting to make government smaller and less intrusive.

So, which is it, do you fear big government, or do you fear having to take care of yourself?

You should also realize that as we have marched towards socialism over the past 100 years, we have slowly been decreasing our strength and economic growth. All of that while destroying the middle class (socialism does that so that you have the elites running things, then everybody else).

Socialist countries like Switzerland have banned assault rifles, I thought that they put one of those into every house there.

Open minded Mormon: "2 Million Americans die every year from Big Pharmacy. 300,000 American die every year from Big Oil fossil fuels. 32,000 Americans die every year from Guns."

Even if your numbers are true (which I doubt) - How many people didn't die last year because of "Big Pharmacy"? How many people didn't freeze to death or die from uncooked food because of "Big Oil"? How many people were not killed because a gun was there to protect them (either their own gun or one used by a police officer)?

Big business is no saint, but it isn't the boogey-man you portray either. Something tells me the true answers to my questions will yield a much higher number than yours.

Even if your numbers are true (they are - look them up for yourself),
Big business is no saint, but it isn't the boogey-man you portray either.

    ==========

    And,
Could you even imagine those numbers if Big Government were ever smaller than BIG Business, and could not control them?

Who would control the safety of your food?
Who would assure that companies would clean up their haz-mat?
Who would pass hold and pass judgement on liability law-suits for negligence?
Who would require cleaner air, soil and water in their production?
Who would control drugs, testing, and assure quailty?
Who would issue Licenses, keep public records, and regulate permits?

Companies and Corporations surely would not.
Their purpose is to make money, and only make money, and as much as they can.
They want any and all roadblocks brushed aside.

Government's purpose is to protect the people, the citizens.

That's why I trust Big Government over Big Business, anyday.

To LDS Liberal, Open Minded Mormon, and all your other screen names...

I have never trusted "Big Business", but generally when one of them gets out of line, pushes too far, or fails to serve their customers the "Little Business" down the street is ready and able to eat their lunch.

Not true for "Big Government". They can abuse their power all day long, treat citizens like dirt, and there is almost nothing that we can do about it. We can vote in a new boss, but the apparatus is still the same.

How you trust government given all the scandals uncovered over the years, is beyond my understanding.

  • RedShirt USS Enterprise, UT
    Feb. 12, 2013 3:54 p.m.

To "LDS Liberal" I still don't see why you would trust Big Government over Big Business.

Thanks to big government telling us what we should eat we have higher obesity rates than before.

We now see more teen pregnancies since government started to teach sex ed.

Our forests suffer bigger fires because of federal management.

The cost of insurance is higher because of big government.

Big government set up the banks for financial failure by requiring that they lower their lending standards.

The government does not protect the citizens, just talk to people living near the Mexican border or that want to go into the national forest areas that have signs warning of drug and human trafficers.

The government is spending your children's and grandchildren's money before they earn it.

There are many in government who want to get rid of the constitution so that they can take more of your money and spend it how they want.

Again, why trust the government, they are equal or worse than businesses?

JoeCapitalist2 - "Security gurads, cleaning crews, lawyers, tax accountants do not add any real value to the company like employees who are designing, building and selling the companys products do."

I beg to differ - security guards prevent theft and damage to comapny products and property, cleaning crews keep arears clean and safe and prevent liability actions, lawyers reduce potential liability actions and prevent law suits, tac accountants reduce the comapny tax liability. All of these directly relate to the bottom line of the company and the company would not be able to function without them unless the builders, designers and salesmen pulled double duty and performed these tasks also. Of every occupation listed I would argue that sales are the least essential. If the companies product is good enough it will sell itself.
