Perry thinks scouts should keep no gay policy and this is news why?
The reason National Boy Scout leaders are changing their stance on this issue,
is because there are so many organizations saying they will withdraw their
funding if the Boy Scouts policy remains as it now is. Too bad some people hold
the almighty dollar in more esteem than their principles. I bet if the Boy
Scouts stand firm on this issue, their funding will not go down, but probably
increase. Time will tell how all of this plays out. I desire to continue to
support the BSA so long as it retains its conservative values; otherwise, I
probably will not.
If you will only give money to an organization if it adheres to your values,
let's be honest about what you are doing.Having someone buy,
your values.Not adhere to them.
Gay activists are the bullies here. Tolerance has acquired a new devious
meaning in modern culture, acceptance. You must accept a lifestyle, even if you
believe it evil. You are the intolerant bigot because God's word echoes in
your heart. You are the intolerant racist because God's word says you are
born male and female. You are intolerant and evil because you believe that God
has said marraige is between a man and a women. You should be gagged against
expression because you have views that align with scripture. You are, in fact,
hypocritical because you believe in family as ordained by God! Those who are
naive enough to believe that this is only about treating gays civilly are
woefully ignorant. This is about acceptance of a lifestyle. The biggest bully
of all, abetted by a compliant and amoral media, is not going to stop until evil
is called good. Any society built on allowing the biggest bully to prevail is
not a society that will make it better for anyone, including gays?
Pagan: Unless you are buying a product or service, of course you should be
concerned about any organization or cause that you donate money to. I will not
give time or money to anyone whose values are in direct conflict with my own,
that would just be silly. This whole boy scout issue is just the
latest chapter in conflict between those who hold the traditional viewpoint that
the gay lifestyle is wrong and the radical gay agenda.Any
organization that takes the position that homosexual behavior is not equal to
heterosexual behavior is to be publicly flogged by many liberal groups. Unless
you embrace the entire gay agenda (can't be neutral or merely tolerant of
it, you must "embrace" it) then you will be labeled a hate group and
branded with the "homophobe" scarlet letter.
If gays get their way on this issue the LDS Church will likely drop the program
as the activity arm of the Aaronic Priesthood. I'm sure, also, that
contributions to BSA will drop way off. I won't give anymore. And I
won't encourage my sons to get into the program.
@banderson said "Tolerance has acquired a new devious meaning in modern
culture, acceptance. You must accept a lifestyle, even if you believe it
evil."No, you don't need to accept it. If you don't
believe in gay marriage, don't marry someone of your same gender. The
argument here is about your desire to limit the rights of others. You
also said "You should be gagged against expression because you have views
that align with scripture."Judging by the fact that you are free
to comment in a public space (these pages) and campaign against the evil you see
around us, no one is gagging you.You also said "Any society
built on allowing the biggest bully to prevail is not a society that will make
it better for anyone, including gays?" For centuries the
biggest bully has prevented gays and lesbians from having fulfilled lives. Now
that is changing, and the biggest bullies (i.e., you and your kind) are
complaining about the unfairness of it all. To this I say: Boo hoo.
You've had your way for far too long!
Miss Piggie,Please reconsider. If BSA changes its policy, then the local
units will have control, thus the LDS Church will stay the same regarding
Scouting. Scouts Canada is used by the Church, and it allows gays to
participate, so why would the Church drop BSA for the same reason? Do you also
think that the recent web site put up by the Church encourage gays and lesbian
members to come back is just s front? As long as the person lives the standards
they can participate in Church, so why offer that on one hand, and take away
with the other?Denying your sons the ethics and values of BSA, as
well as your donations does not seem to be productive in light of the good BSA
Congrats to a brave governor who understands and upholds the Scout OATH!!!!!
The scouts are taught this Oath from the beginning .... Lets all stand up and
defend the standards for which scouting stand for! It is time for the majority
to be heard from ... It is time to stand and be counted!!!!
So some people are gay...Could someone please explain to me why gay people
always have to act like bullies. It is like this, Gay people believe what they
believe, and I believe what I believe. Let just agree to disagree.
@Jack:"If BSA changes its policy, then the local units will have
control, thus the LDS Church will stay the same regarding Scouting."Local units will not be able to go against BSA Headquarters policy. A
court will make that decision, not the church."Do you also think
that the recent web site put up by the Church encourage gays and lesbian members
to come back is just a front?"Come back to what?"As long as the person lives the standards they can participate in Church,
so why offer that on one hand, and take away with the other?"True, but the chance for pedophilia is multiplied exponentially. And the
church doesn't need more of that... They've had enough already,
costing alotta dough over the years."Denying your sons the
ethics and values of BSA, as well as your donations does not seem to be
productive in light of the good BSA does."If one of the values
of the BSA is homosexuality, my sons don't need that."Please, reconsider."Sorry.
If gays get their way on this issue the LDS Church will likely drop the
program... - Miss PiggieSo much for tolerance. The BSA
does not promote sexual activity, so a Boy scout being gay should not be an
issue.So then, why is it...?
Perry ever runs for president he has my vote, unlike cristy of NJ.
Were I in charge of the scouts, the golden rule wouldget greater emphasis.
Scouts would be taught toto treat others as they would want to be
treatedthemselves. This includes not teasing or talkingdisrespectfully of others. This would includebeing respectful of people
are different.I would not however open up scout leadershippositions to gay men, people who are sexuallyattracted to the scouts.
This is unnecessary andunacceptable risk.
My son achieved his Life Scout rank, my daughters are Venturers (one just
beginning and one with her Silver award) and I have a Bear Scout. Even if my sponsor organization still excludes gays - the BSA is only choosing
to lift its ban - not demanding units to chang - it does mean that there could
be gay scouts, gay leaders, and gay trainers at council and district trainings
and events. If I choose to stay with Scouts and do what I can to
minimize the damage that will follow with this change - Do my kids only stick
with the troop/crew/pack and not enjoy the benefits of world, national, council,
and district events and training?
Goodness, gays are the bullies now? Hmmm, if that's true, it's just a
nanosecond in the course of human history. If the table has turned, I'm not
feeling sorry for anyone.
We need leaders like Perry, Governors, speaking up and taking a stand on morals.
Obama is the opposite of this. He'll speak up for whatever is immoral and
try to shove it down everyone's throat until evil is the law of the land.
Well, one thing is for sure, God does not condone Homosexuality. He
doesn't condone a lot of things, but I don't see people posting that
they are proud of being an adulterer, or that not being admitted into the
priesthood for such is bigoted. This has nothing to do with being tolerant of
different views. I can easily tolerate someone telling me they love a
perversion, but then to tell me that I must allow them to teach my children on
an overnight camp out is quite another issue. I am not intolerant; I am
careful. I have that right. If the Boy Scouts do this, something that has been
trusted for a century will now have made them less trustful, something that
every parent should have concern. I have two eagle scouts, and two more on the
way. Please don't devalue their accomplishment of being 'morally
I hope to clarify my point of view here, in a kind way. I hope that those
dealing with homosexuality will understand...The only gay men I've had a
chance to know included 2 who left their wives and children for another partner,
1 that sexually abused a child, and one that had sex on his mind constantly.
All had pornography addictions. I know that there are those out there who deal
with same-sex attraction who aren't living lives that hurt others, but
because of my limited experience, I feel it would be foolish to trust a gay man
with my son. The cause of these attractions has not been substantiated. The
history hasn't either. It's all so gray, and embracing something that
is not yet fully understood would be unwise, particularly when we bring the
children into it. Let's love one another, but acknowledge our weakness in
just not knowing much about this issue, no matter what side we take.
@Bandersen, 8:02 PM Feb 3, 2013 - I agree. Couldn't have said it better.
The issue is really with the change in leadership, not so much the boys. This
can be compared to a lesbian girls' PE teacher in Central Utah a few years
past, who was terminated. This caused a big stink in the gay community and in
the media. Neverless, how would you feel if you were one of the girls in the PE
class and your lesbian female teacher walked into the shower room with girls
going into and out of the showers. How do you think the parents felt. And what
about the school board. They were only protecting the girls' privacy
rights. Gay men have no business being Boy Scout leaders.
Remember we are talking about a PRIVATE organization. So it is the
Gays and gay supporters that are being the bullies here, trying to force
acceptance their views and behaviors onto a private organization.Bullies are bullies regardless of number or size.BSA is not
pushing their private views on anyone who is not a member, they are not the
Perry has courage. Obama has none.
@bandersonSo only this that you deem to "be on the right path"
deserve to be treated with "respect"?@the truthIf
gays are.being bullies because they seek encussion then your demanding that
the BSA adhere to your wishes would be what exactly? @slsAll
in the eye of the beholder I think.
Well said and well done Gov Perry! Utah Gov Herbert ought to follow up with a
Unless I am missing something, "The Gays" are not pushing the BSA to do
anything. "The Gays" do not have that much clout. How could they?
society has repressed and vilfied them for two thousand years. The
ones who are promoting the change are: Intel, Emerson, Verizon, 3M, Bank of
America, UPS, Pfizer,, etc. etc. I never knew these companies were gay
enterprises. More power to them.
Start another scouting program for gays. It's just that simple. BSA
doesn't have a monopoly on scouting.
