Gotta love the complains that business leaders make. The more things change the
more they stay the same. 100 years ago, the same exact complaints were being
made when workers demanded minimum wages, weekends, children to be exempt from
working, and 40 hr work weeks. Business cried and howled. Yet, their claims were
just a load of hot air. Same thing here. Businesses are
crying and howling. In reality, they can easily afford it. And... Honestly, in
the long term they will be the ones to benefit. Happier employees, employees who
don't spread illness around the work place, and ultimately more production.
Only the wealthy should be entitled to paid sick leave.
This topic the government needs to stay out of. Sick leave is a benefit, one I
feel business should not be required to provide. All business should be
required is the agreed upon days wage for the agreed upon days work. That is it!
all else is a benefit. As I started working I looked only at the wage and type
of work, as I started a family I then started looking at some of the benefits.
No one is tied to a job, if they do not like the benefits, wages or
enviormentthey then have 4 choices. 1. keep quiet and be miserable 2.
change your attitude (atleast you have a job) 3. talk to management and try to
negotiate a better condition or 4. look for another job with those benefits you
desire. If business can't keep their employees they will soon change their
method of business or go out of business. Government needs to stay out.option: put everyone in a padded room for their protection and provide their
food to make sure proper amount and nutrition, with the floor a being a
treadmill so we can get our forced required exercise. (not) keep out government!
Most businesses who hire full-time employees usually give paid leave. However,
the contractors that businesses hire absolutely do NOT get it in most situations
(in large part because when a business hires a contractor, even full-time for a
period, they pay a higher wage/salary, and that is offset by not having to offer
such benefits).But of course, those pushing for social justice would
have you believe that the USA is a land with no freedom - a worker cannot leave
a job where they get garbage for benefits to seek better opportunities or start
their own business. Even when most business treat their employees quite well, we
must pass legislation to deal with these whiners who still have not figured out
how set aside even the smallest amount of savings to handle a "huge"
health concern like taking a single unpaid day off work.
I have 7 days a year I can miss for whatever reason. It's a rolling 80 hrs
with 11,5 hr days so if I use a few at a time I have to wait until that date a
year from then for those days to fall off.So in practice my sick
time no good for sick time being that I'm in danger of being written up and
or fired if I go over the 80 hrs.many people find themselves in the
position of not being able to stay home sick for the next 3 months. I personally
have over a hundred sick hours but can't use any until the end of February.
I certainly have the right to work in Arizona - just not the right to stay home
Yeah, if a place of business wants to hire 10 year olds to work 50 hours a week
at half of minimum wage they should be able to! Stop this government intrusion.
After all, they used to be able to do it! What is our world coming to? How
will our businesses survive?
I'm grateful to have sick leave at my place of employment. Not only can we
use it when we're sick, but for doctor's appointments and other health
maintenance and preventative healthcare appointments. It is a real benefit that
I use, and am grateful to have. My health used to be something I would actively
suppress, ignore, and deny for the sake of the job, or because I couldn't
spare the vacation days. It was very unhealthy and unsafe. I am a
strong believer that combining your days off with sickdays only discourages sick
days. You need to have dedicated days of sick leave. In the long run, I believe
it adds to the overall wellbeing of your workforce and stability, dedication and
productivity of the company.
I disagree. When Businesses will not choice to do the right/moral/common sense
thing for both their employees and their customers then it is MOST appropriate
for government to come in and regulate them. The matter of sick days is a matter
of common sense. No one wants to spread disease to others and no one wants to
get sick, therefore workers should NOT be forced to come to work. They are
forced when they are being paid PEANUTS and are living pay check to pay check.
Missing one day of work is not an option as that may be the difference between
paying the rent and not paying the rent. Come and be reasonable
people. Paid sicks days make sense for everyone involved.....even the
businesses. Not having sick employees around prevents the healthy employees from
getting sick. Sick employees = much less productivity. Less productivity = less
profit. A few sick days a year may cost some $ upfront, but the long term gains
in productivity and goodwill with both your workforce and your customers makes
up for that.Again, when businesses will not do what is right for
their employees and for society it is time for government intervention.
