The NRA has been exposed by the foolish comments of Wayne LaPierre, the Executive Vice President and CEO of the NRA. The NRA wants Americans to think in that there are two distinct classes in our country. 1. A criminal class and 2. a good guy class. This simple minded thinking blocks clear thought. As Wayne LaPierre labels bad people with guns as "monsters," he deflects reality and attempts to scare people into thinking that the only solution "To a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." Most murders occur in the home. Husbands killing wives or friends fighting and in anger turning to the readily available gun. Combined with the fact that over 17,000 people commit suicide with a gun, the readily available gun in America's homes ends up being used by family member against each other. Wayne LaPierre attempts to scare people into thinking that America, in general, is a dangerous place to live. Is that the America you think exists? America, the scary, crime filled, environment, where you are only safe if you have a gun? Come on? - this is not my America.

@beverly you can quote all the statistics you want but the bottom line for me and for many people is "do I feel more safe with a gun than without"? The answer is yes. My one overriding concern is that NO government can be trusted. The 2nd amendment has helped protect our constitution for 200 years. An armed electorate requires respect from those in government. I strongly support harsh punishment for miss-use of firearms. In oakland the thugs ride around in their cars with guns at the ready. If the police stop them they just claim they know nothing about how the gun got in the car (guns are stolen - no paper link to the thug). Police can do nothing, they just let them go. There are bad guys with guns.

Maybe Jimmy didn't intend it, but the taxes paid over the decades to the military industrial complex have created a situation in which if our government ever wanted to, it could easily sweep aside all the pistol-packin' urbanites, clay pigeon shooters, moose hunters and even the phony militias before any of the latter would know they were under domestic attack. This has been the case for decades. Arming against OURSELVES must be the goofiest idea yet, but any idea that keeps guns flowing out the door is a good one to the NRA.
