Extremely disappointed in Mike Crapo. Another high profile person making
profoundly poor decisions. No one is immune to making dumb mistakes.I am rather annoyed, however how the AP seems to take great pleasure is
dragging the Church through this mud. The display of hypocrisy is already there
without having to bring up the fact he is a Mormon-- He is a U.S. Senator who
committed a crime. How often do we hear about the religion of any other high
profile person who makes a dumb mistake who is not LDS? Never.
Idablu----you are reading this story and commenting about it on a church-owned
newspaper website. Not sure where the conspiracy is.
Re: idabluThe media isn't dragging the Church into this, the
Senator is. When the accused uses his religion as his defense, it is valid
news. Lose the persecution complex, or at least direct your angst to the proper
@ idabluI am not too upset about the media spin on this news story
beccause he apparently made statements that he does not drink, then was arrested
for DUI. The behavior doesn't match his statements made earlier. That is
why is became an issue.....as he displayed the hypocrisy, not the media. If he
hadn't said he didn't drink because he was LDS, then there
wouldn't be a story. The problem is not that an LDS person was
arrested for DUI, the problem is that he is a U.S. Senator that was arrested for
DUI who stated he doesn't drink because he is LDS and then he was caught
driving drunk. Understand? You need to walk-the-walk and not just say what you
believe. As for why he was drinking, that is his personal issue with
which to deal and he will have to suffer the fallout of that decision. I wish
him well in that regard. Alcohol has ruined more than one good man
who was deceived into drinking it.
"That's a shame"
I truly hope it comes out that this was a one time error in judgement. He is a
very good Senator and one of the few grown ups in office today. I would take a
drinking Senator Crapo over my current (embarrassment of a) Congressman any day
of the week and twice on Sunday.
It just shows that he is grown up and can make decisions for himself without
other grown ups telling him what to do so he can be in good standing with
mythology. Good for him. Maybe that is why he is a Senator; so he can go get
some freedom outside of Morridor.
Good thing they did not have hi blow into a hypocrisy meter. He said he did not
drink and that would be known as a lie.
I believe the news report states that the senator has brought up his no drinking
position PRIOR too this event. It just talks about being a cooperative DUI
suspect. He obviously comes up very short of what is expected of a Latter-day
Saint and a member of the U. S. Senate.
What media spin is being thrown into the story? They are simply quoting his
biography on his page. He should be held to a higher standard, since that is the
standard his constituents elected him on. Sounds like a persecution complex to
me. Of all the times a Kennedy has been busted on DUI religion didn't
matter, because everybody expects Kennedys to drink, unlike Mormons, who tend to
look down on people who drink and make their own choices.
I guess the Fiscal Cliff is enough to drive ANYONE to drinking.
If I were in the senate now, it would also drive me to drink.
NRA response:"Let's put six-packs of beer in every car, to
cut back on drunk driving."
Crapo is 61-years-old. He's taught and testified about the Word of Wisdom.
He's been a leader of the Church in authority over others. He's an
Eagle Scout. This is simply incredible. If we ever hope to clean up
politics the likes of Crapo need to disappear from the scene and never come
back. But they do come back, and return to positions of stature. When Bill
Bennett, author of The Book of Virtues, left his wife, he should have vanished
from politics. But he didn't. Then there's Gingrich.Let's
not allow them to ever come back as shining examples on the hill. Such behavior
just cheapens the concept of real leaders.
Sad -- 1st we had Mormon Senator Larry Craig arrested for solisiting
gay-sex in an Airport men's room. Now we have Mormon Senator Mike
Crapo arrested for DUI.Personally -- I don't care if
he's a Mormon or a Druid, if he doesn't know that drinking and driving
is extraordinarily dangerous he doesn't belong in the Senate. I am however deeply offended he'd use his membership to somehow go easy
