Let's discuss a gun ban that Obama is alluding to after we get justice for
dead border patrol agents and US Ambassadors.
As a Republican for a long time. I voted for Barry Goldwater and every
Republican President since 1962. As a lifelong Republican, I will support
President Obama in any attempt to limit assault rifles and large magazines for
all semi-automatic weapons. We cannot tolerate this horrible behavior and the
easy access to assault rifles or any weapon of mass destruction. Please think
this through. I hunt, and I target practice, I'm not against guns. I
strongly recommend we ban assault rifles and large magazines that are banned in
hunting, but available to lunatics. I will support the President's efforts
in a reasonable, open-minded, manner.
If we blame and ban guns, then we must ban cars, planes, Tylenol, docs, and
prescription drugs. Far more deaths are attributed to the latter. Never make long term decisions on short term emotions.
I feel terrible about the senseless murders of innocent people. I feel terrible
about murdered Boarder Agents and US Embassy personnell and our servicemen and
women. All deaths are sobering. However,I really struggle with a
President / Commander in Chief, who knowingly allowed Embassy personnell die and
ran a political campaign that indicated months in advance they needed to
"kill" an other candidate. Hence, when a person is willing to br so
ruthless, stretch the truth or outright be dishonest and then when the camera
light turns on, he is so sorrowful and concerned I just can't respect the
performance......I must be missing some of the character he would have us
believe he has......Personally, after having served this nation and
held a full-time-taxable job all my life, I expect more from leaders than just
@winsumto bad that you do not expect more from yourself then to continue
to spread the dishonest talking points of the far right. maybe you should clean
your own side of the street before pointing fingers at others.
This massacre was tragic beyond description, but I am appalled at the
president's politicization of the situation to once again push the liberal
agenda of gun control, regardless of where they decide to draw that line. More
children die each year from their parents leaving them in the car, but we
don't address that serious issue by banning cars. A mother drowns all her
kids in the bathtub, but we don't introduce legislation to ban bathtubs or
outlaw water.Blaming violent behavior on guns is a non sequitur
argument, and it is incredible how many in our society want to jump on that
Twenty little kids between the ages of 6 and 7 were murdered. Does this reality
get past the Rush Limbaugh, Fox New, mentality? A lunatic with a readily
available assault rifle killed 20 children. not to mention the repeated,
multiple, murders with assault rifles around our Country, in the recent past.
We must look at this problem without shouting past each other. I'm sure the
President will look at this problem with a reasoned mind. Why does anyone need
an assault rifle? Why does any one need a magazine that holds more than 10
rounds? Stop your "Doom's Day - Prepper" thinking and think about
how we can solve this problem in a reasonable manner. Who needs an assault
rifle in your neighborhood? If we, as gun owners are not reasonable, we face
losing more than just assault rifles. Compromise is essential. Again, why
would anyone need an assault rifle?
The problem seem to me there is too little help for the mentally ill in this
country. Insurance doesn't want to cover long term care. Some people need
more help than they are getting. Why is the mental health thing totally ignored
for gun legislation? If all the "crazy" shooters had been under mental
health care, maybe we wouldn't have these tragedies to talk about.
Many men, women, and children have been killed along the border with American
thousands of guns passing through ATF.Perhaps our commander in chief
could lift an executive order, bans an investigation into this.
Beverly, I feel the same pain you do. I admire your compassion. I want solutions
just as you do. Please consider that making it illegal won't
keep these people who want to kill from buying assault weapons and using them.
Guns were not allowed, were illegal on that school property. Banning guns will
not make them go away. At that point, only killers will own them. Well and those
who refuse to give up their right to defend themselves. Think of the home
invasions of late that were thwarted by armed home owners. With
If you read the "mother of Adam" article, that's been floating
around on DNews, and other sources, it really shines a light on the way to get
help for mental illness in this country. The mother was literally told to get
her son charged with a crime so he'd be "in the system", and that
would start a paper trail. Her son's only wrong was being born mentally
ill. This is wrong and morally reprehensible. Mental health really needs work in
this country!Second, I believe our nation needs to rethink it's
position on "open carry". How many mass shootings do you think would
occur if there's a chance someone is packing and will shoot you if you
start something? I belive this has worked well in Amsterdam. On a smaller scale,
how many corner store clerks do you think wouldn't be robbed if they had a
visible firearm at their hip.
It isn't just these kids at this school. It's all the other shooting
massacres in the last few years. How many people have to die so that others may
have assault rifles and others weapons that have no use but to kill people?People always say, following these slaughters of innocnts, that we have to
also ban cars, knives, baseball bats, prescription drugs etc. if we're
going to ban assault weapons. While it's true that people die because of
these other things, they at least have a primary purpose other than killing
people. Unlike assault weapons and automatic pistols that can discharge an
enormous number of bullets in an instant, we use these other things in our
everyday lives for good purposes. The same cannot be said of these terrible
killing tools.People have said to me that these are the sacrifices we have
to make to keep our 2nd amendment rights intact. They believe if you say some
people can't have guns, soon all guns will be taken away. This price
is too high. Some people should not have guns. The ban on assalut rifles should
never have been repealed.
Its a good argument that other things have a good use and it is a silly notion
to ban them. Whereas assault weapons have no purpose and should be banned. We
can write on a piece of paper to ban unhappiness, poverty, hunger and so forth.
And we'll stand up and applaud the president who signs the ban on any of
these things. But the reality is this, they will still all still exist.
Banning the weapons will make everyone feel warm and fuzzy, but they too will
still exist and in a covert world that cannot be controlled by presidential
edicts or congressional posturing. I too mourn with those who lost
loved ones a few days ago, just as I mourn with those who lost loved ones to
drunk drivers, accidental drownings, over doses, suicides, and countless other
tragedies whether intentional or accidental. Declaring guns bad, while simply
telling people to drink responsibly makes just as much sense as making cars and
baths illegal. It will take more than gun control to prevent untimely deaths in
I agree a ban on all guns would not end the ravaging of citizens, especially
children, but also I call to mind many years ago in the Reagan administration
when a number, or most, of the mental health institutions were closed by that
president seeking to 'cut costs'. What a terrible political move then
that has given our generation a multiplicity of sad problems. Being civil to
people would help; gun bans would help but treating mentally challenged persons
would REALLY help.
There were many in the US, just today, including two police officers. Refer to
article in this paper about hardly any gun deaths in Japan. No guns, no gun
deaths. That must be the goal.
Sixty percent of our deficit has come during the Obama years. We'll soon be looking at the Grand Canyon cliff.
