Re: "Every democracy needs a loyal opposition, and no one demands a
Republican House majority that accedes to every wish of the White House."Except that's what Democrats ARE demanding.
Well, if you dont believe that the election was a "mandate" (subjective)
then how about recent polls that favor tax increases for the wealthy. It was more than 2 to 1 in favor of that. So, is the GOP more
concerned about party ideology or the will of the people?
When 60% of the people yell at the top of their lungs that they can no longer
afford Obama's bloated government, when 60% of the people tell us that they
have no way to pay for his "free" programs, when 60% of the people jump
on his class warfare wagon and demand that he pass the costs for his programs
and policies on to someone else, then we know that America has lost it's
way and that the "leader" has successfully turned us into a nation of
crybabies who would rather rob someone else of their wealth than man up and pay
for the programs that we DEMANDED from the Federal Government.Two-year-olds think that they can have everything and that somebody else will
pay. Adults should somehow be expected to associate cost with demands and they
should be "adult" enough to pay for what they demand.
An election is not a mandate. Congress exists so the President does not have
too much power. Marriage always has been between people of the opposite gender.
So far in the United States the majority of states were it has been up to a
vote voted to keep it that way. Some twice. Higher taxes on the wealthy mean
they pass there higher cost onto the customer you and me. Because
of checks and balances an election is not a mandate and one man does not have
too much power. Were that the case it would be total disaster. There are some
ideas of a president that fortunatly do not need to come to fruition or it would
be damaging to the Republic.
"Adults should somehow be expected to associate cost with demands and they
should be "adult" enough to pay for what they demand."Well Mike. Lets be consistent. When "we" made a decision
to go to war, we increase our costs. Adults should have been "adult"
enough to pay for what they demand" (cuts elsewhere or increase taxes)However, we decided to pass on the costs to the future generation. Is that any different than what you are now complaining about?
Wow, what a nice, sensible letter. I'm impressed, DN. Well done.
The Republicans should do the will of those that elected them!
A 50%+ win in the popular vote is not a mandate. If anything it is a call to
move to the center. Mr. Obama's ambivalence in decrying the Chinese credit
card used by Bush and then ignoring sovereign debt is troubling. He can no
longer say, We won, get to the back of the bus.
Maintaining and funding the military is an authorized duty of Congress, a duty
that WE, THE PEOPLE have agreed to pay for. We have given Congress the duty to
declare war and have agreed to pay for the costs imposed by that duty. IF
Congress decided to pass the buck by not taxing YOU and ME for costs incurred
with the Military then IT has abdicated its duty, but neither YOU nor anyone
else can pass the buck and tell us that only the RICH GUY has an obligation to
pay for the military.Obama has no "mandate". He won the
election by 9,000,000 FEWER votes than he received in 2008. That is not a
mandate. He has taken an oath to perform the duties of his office.
That oath includes the promise to defend the Constitution. He cannot defend the
Constitution by taking money from his arch-enemy, the fictional "rich
guy", and excusing the rest of the citizens from their responsibility to do
their duty to pay for the authorized duties of Congress.
Tax and spend liberals (with the help of a bunch of Republicans) have
successfully jacked up federal spending to the point that it is literally
bankrupting the country. We spend twice as much as we did just a dozen years
ago.Next they have successfully convinced a majority of Americans
that our current crisis is equally caused by a lack of tax revenues as it is by
runaway spending and that the only acceptable solution is a "balanced
approach" where even more taxes must be collected. This is a big
lie. Tax revenues are as high as ever. If federal spending was at the same
levels as it was during Clinton's term, we would have big surpluses instead
of record deficits. We must get spending under control, but Democrats are
unwilling to budge on any meaningful spending cuts or entitlement reform.Piling on even more taxes to those who produce (they already pay more
than their fair share) will eventually kill the goose with the golden eggs.
It's going to be REALLY funny in four years to hear the anguished yowls of
some folks when Hillary is elected as our next President.
@HemlockSalt Lake City, UTA 50%+ win in the popular vote is not a
mandate.[How can you say that with any sort of straight face or
ounce integrity after GW Bush was selected and never elected? -- seriously?!=========== @J ThompsonSPRINGVILLE, UTMaintaining and funding the military is an authorized duty of Congress, a duty
that WE, THE PEOPLE have agreed to pay for. [I have no problem
paying taxes to do so. The problem is that YOU the far-right don't
have any intention to pay for your messes. The heart of the PROBLEM
is Bush and the GOP started 2 wars, passed Medicare part D, never cut spending
of any sort over 8 years, actually INCREASED it and refused to fund any of it,
and then actually DECREASED the ability to do so.At least show some
integrity and be consistant with your rants.]Speaking of 2 year olds
Mike Richards -- ...for complaining about Two-year-olds thinking...that
somebody else will pay. Adults are expected to know costs ...and be
"adult" enough to pay for what they demand.I think it's
about high-time the GOP to grows up.
Joe Blow, Obama lover... He did not win with a "mandate" If he had, he
would have a democratically controlled house. lBesides, 50% of the
eligible voters didn't even vote.. Stop taking pot shots at the messenger
if you don't agree with what he said...
These calls for tax increases on only the wealthy ignore the real problem. It
doesn't raise enough money to plug the hole in the budget and Democrats
have NO plans for that. If they really wanted to fix the deficit by raising
taxes then they should be honest and raise taxes on everyone. What they want is
to pander to a majority that doesn't understand economics without solving
any difficult problems.
If only the rich should pays taxes, then shouldn't only the
rich enjoy the privileges of membership? And if you do not pay
membership dues (taxes) what does this country owe you? It's
hilarious how the left pats each other on the back for making such ridiculous
statements, and seem to embrace tyranny when it is their side. There
is no mandate, this is representative republic governed by a
constitution built on checks ans balances and NOT a democracy.
"Joe Blow, Obama lover"Sorry to disappoint, but no obama
lover here. But, not an Obama Hater, and thats what really ticks off
Some posters tell us that they have no problem paying taxes and then tell
Republicans that we are passing the buck. Doesn't their policy of NOT
taxing the average person, but demanding those who already pay more than 80% of
all government payments be taxed even more - so that they don't have to?Just who is passing the buck? Who is ignoring their personal
responsibility to equally and completely fund all government spending? Who is
pretending that they don't have an obligation if they can find a "rich
guy" to carry their cross for them?America is the land of equal
opportunity and of equal responsibility. Every citizen is responsible to pay
for all government spending. Nothing in the Constitution allows one part of
society to pass the buck to another segment of society.60% of the
people have held up their hands and said "Enough already!". They think
that they've been taxed too much. They think that they can't pay
anymore. The problem is that they think that others should pay for them. Obama, enough is enough. We can't afford to pay for your programs.
What election mandate? The result was close at best and neither candidate had
the support of a majority of the qualified voters. Then again there is some
doubt as to the validity of some results. Thirdly, as a GOP matter, the local
parties "cast out of their society" that "heretic" Ron Paul
with at times highly questionable tactics. My conclusion is that
the integrity of the election is at least debateable, there is no clear
consensus among the people and there are certainly no mandates of a partisan
nature. With such a situation there should be a more accommodating
approach from the current administration, the Democrat presidency as well as the
Republican House. Both parties might consider following the
Constitution of the Unites States and limit their scope of action to those
constitutionally permissible. That would be a novelty!

for a $1 on the street ends up paying taxes, even for the cup of coffee he
spends it on. The issue of taxes going up is a GOP ruse.and
it's only on earnings, capital gains and closing loopholes the rest of the
99% don't get.The taxes were and still are ALREADY at the
higher rates for everybody, The Bush tax reduction was passed only as a
temporary measure, so letting them lapse is not really a tax rate increase
- but actually a returning to normal.AndYou still never
addressed how YOU intend to pay for YOUR Bush Wars.
@mike richards your right mike it is time for the top "earners to man
up and stop demanding special treatment under the law. they need to pay the same
tax rate I and the rest of the middle class pay.
Obviously the lamestream media has made the "millionaires" (and their
taxes) an issue. THEY control the discussion.EXACTLY WHEN is Obama
going to tell us what he wants to cut? Please tell us of the cuts next year,
not 10 yrs. from now.
George, the middle calss pays a ZERO percent income tax rate. Is that
really what you want the rich to pay?
Fitness FreakSalt Lake City, UTObviously the lamestream media... =========== So easy to spot a ditto-head, Limbaugh listener.
The only mandate in the Constitution is to "provide for the common
defense". Everything else is left up to congress. I don't call
Obama's win a mandate. I do call Ronald Reagan's win in 1980 a
mandate. Same thing in 1984. A slightly more than 2 million vote win out of
over 100 million. Not a mandate. It would have been a mandate if the Democrats
would have taken the house.I also don't count the 39 seat
difference in the House as a razor thin margin. The Senate 6 vote margin is
razor thin margin. This guy is nothing but a Democrat schill.
To "LDS Liberal" do you have any other tactics besies name calling and
Obama worship? What has Obama done that is different than Bush? You also miss the simple fact that spending under Bush was lower than
unde Obama. Prior to Democrats controlling congress, we had low unemployment
rates. What about the Wars that Obama has continued to fund, why do
you no complain about those, why only care about Iraq (Bush signed the treaty to
pull us out) and Afghanistan? Did you miss the recent headlines where we are
now sending troops into the middle east to help our allies there defend
themselves from the uprisings that Obama helped to fuel?Show some
integrity and own up to the fact that Obama is nothing more than Bush on
News Flash for Mr. Kusler: Obama was not the only one elected in Washington.
Congress, along with all its Republicans, was ALSO ELECTED! They likewise have
mandates from their constituencies to live up to the promises they made to their
voters. The fact that Obama ignores this is just another example of his lack of
leadership. He basically is saying “A weak majority of voters elected me,
therefore the whole country wants you to ignore the promises you made to your
constituencies and do everything I say.” Nobody voted for
Obama for his woefully inadequate financial plan.
LDS Liberal....The taxes you are talking about is State tax on
purchases. NOT ONE PENNY goes to the Federal Governement.when people
talk about not paying taxes, they are not talking about State,County or City
taxes.... they are talking about Federal Taxes... and yes, about 50 percent of
Americans don't pay FEDERAL taxes... Why Not? should they not pay something
for the services they get? Should not everyone bear the cost of a bloated
government instead of just those that pay Federal, State, County and City
LDS Liberal Bush won the electoral votes, Oboma could of had same thing happen.
He won Florida fair and square and thing is why didn't Gore demand
repeated recounts of every county. Inconsisten Bush won enough electoral votes
to be president. One old man Hillary already served as president. I doubt she
will even get the democratic nomination next time. If she does she will not win
a third term as president.
And the GOP offers no solutions. What loopholes do they want to
eliminate? What programs are they willing to cut and how much?Of
course, the GOP doesn't mention specifics, just complain.Pathetic! Time for you repubs to grow up. Seriously, GROW UP
