"Free" PUBLIC education is the cornerstone of the USA democracy.Dedicated Boards of Education--herein is the "to do" list to
strengthenyou, the students, and our future.
So are you advocating that school board members should avoid sitting down and
listening to other people or that they should simply go into the job with
pre-existing opinions and an iron clad agenda?Could it be that
failure to be "educated" is one of the most problematic problems in
America today? Because part of education is learning to look at situations from
other perspectives than one's own.
Finding that balance between sticking to one's principles and building
consensus is what all policy makers /leaders are called to do. Many policy
makers don't have principles but they do like being reelected. Is anyone
interested in reviewing the idea of term limits for all elected officials?
So John, your answer is to ignore the trained professionals and their expertise
in favor of elected school boards comprised of dedicated folks with little or no
education expertise. That is the problem with education, John. NO
other business would put up with hiring or listening to individuals with no
expertise in their craft. You want to fix education, give it back to
the educators. That has NEVER happened. The responsibility for the concerns
facing us now lies with people who disrespect the teacher's voice and
expertise.Public Education is the only system which is governed and
ruled by individuals with NO education experience, degrees, or knowledge.I am sadly disappointed in your commentary.
